I have been trying to start a new forum dedicated strictly to cross stitchers. I just don't know exactly how to go about it. I have had several responses to the idea and I tried to do what Terry suggested but didn't know exactly what I am doing wrong.
So for all of those interested in having a Cross stitch forum, please post here and make it known that you too are interested in it.
Thanks
Jan
New Cross stitch forum
I enjoy doing counted cross stitch, have one piece I've been working on for over 10 years (no dry rot yet). I want to finish it this year and give it to my DD when she gets married next year.
I have done pieces that I have finished ;>)
I must find my cross stitch pictures and post too. I'll try for tomorrow and I would be interested in a Xstitch thread...
I haven't done counted cross-stitch in years! My son got me a kit for Christmas. Looks like I'll be cross-stitching again! Oh, and I too have a project I started several years ago. It's still sitting there, unfinished!
couldn't we do cross stitch and tapestry? I like tapestry very much......
Have 2 cross stitches on the go..had bought a program that converted designs into cross stitching so started a piece from a photo of my grandchildren..ok, so I'm slow, started it 2 years ago and only have part of his head done..petit point lol
Must apologize though, doubt I'm going to take it out and finish it...some things go like that..
Nice, think I paid around $80. for the computer program and you simply scan or take a photo you've taken and enter what floss you like to use and it does all the work for you..I'll have to get out my piece and take a photo..
Woo Hoo Bettypauze. I love that. I don't love the $80 though. Dang it. Why is it that the good stuff always costs so much. I am doing it by hand and eye.
I know what you mean about knowing that you won't finish something. It probably for the same reason I don't . I'm just not interested in the subject matter. Not saying you aren't into your grandchildren but the CS isn't what you want it to be.
You have to be excited about something to finish it. At least thats what i have found.
Ended up after starting doing their portraits in oils and then in pencil..not sure I wanted to devote that much of what I have left to live sitting doing cross stiching..so much to do and so little time..lol
ouuuu... sounds like a painting that I have done of one of my daughters and tried several times to capture the right expression but finally gave up. Isn't it funny when you try so many time to capture what you really would just love to hold. I wish I could hug my daughter that I haven't seen in 7 years and the others in 5. I did a therapy painting of my mother after she died but what I really wanted to do was just to hold her once again but putting her portrait on to paper help me to let go and let God handle what I was having a tough time doing.
Wow, sorry, I just was going to tell you that I understood what you were saying and got carried away. Heheh
It's funny what will set you off on a whole scenario.
If you are a subscriber I would appreciate it if you could go to Daves Garden forum and post a comment on the suggestion of starting a new CS forum.
The more response we get the better odds we have of getting our own forum.
Thanks
Jan
Funny how some words just bring back memories..painting is good therapy even though the picture at times doesn't look like the subject..lol
I posted on the home page....hope it helps.
The first time I saw the picture above, I thought that it looked like Salem, Massachusetts. After working there in an old colonial home, I'm now sure of it. I absolutely love the crow. It totally makes the scene. You have no idea how fantastic that picture is and if you can make a pattern of it, it would sell like crazy up here in New England!!!! Fantastic job Jan
Thanks Barb, Can't wait to get started on it. I am just as curious to see how it turns out as anyone.
Are you doing it in colors or as a black and shades of gray or as a sepia print? Any one would look fantastic....
I am leaning more towards the sepia with some dark dark browns but not really black for depth and there will be creams and light beiges for highlights. Trying to stay away from White and Black. It won't be entirely CS but will have a little embroidery intertwined. Trying to make it not so complicated but seem to run into some little obstacles around every corner. With the windows and the geometry of depth and distance, trying to get the right angle, whew!
It is quite the undertaking. I guess that's one of the reasons some of those patterns are so expensive. I must confess though that I never really gave it a thought until now!!!! Can't wait to see how you progress with it.
That's really nice and I like it small like that. Good job...

You are so creative just in your postings. I have had to go back and look at them several times. I love your snow rabbit.
I may sound so supid but what nationality are you? You sound almost Alaskan. Are you? Or Native American.

What a wonderful insite to your background. I wish I could say that I knew as much about mine. All I know is that My fathers parents came from Sweden and my Mothers were French/ Irish. Now thats a combination. I am Swede French and Irish.
Your background shows so much artistic inspiration and I can tell that you have acquired that in your writing and knowledge of just who you are.
Awesome.
Thanks for sharing that with me.

I want to show you what I have been working on for a few years now. This is called white buffalo
I will post one more picture
This is all done in 13/0 seed beads that are pushed into beeswax one bead at a time. This gourd is 42" around so it will be a while before it gets done. I became very involved with the Native American cultures when I live in the Southwest but have never knew much about the other tribes throughout the country. It was so nice to hear of you history.
thanks
jan
Talk about creative...love the beadwork as well, quite the undertaking girls..now normally I'll take on every and any craft but what you girls are doing takes a bit more patience than I have..yet, will paint trompe l'oeil projects and work 30-40 hours without batting an eye..maybe it's because it's so tedious the work you all do..
Not yet convinced to take out my petit point of my grandsons..lol..maybe I'll go as far as go looking for it..how's that!
Ok, I have cross stitched and told my little sister would cross stitch a pattern I have of Betty Boop on her curtains using waste cloth. I have used it before but bought a book and it told me everything to do.
My question, how do I figure out what size waste cloth to use? How do I figure out the dimensions is what I think I am asking. I have a picture of betty boop with the cross stitch squares, now what.
Kawonkamish happgarden,
I have never used waste canvas, so I am unable to help you personally, but here are some websites that might help you.

I am sorry too as I too have never used waste cloth. Sorry I can't be of any assistance in this matter but I hope that the websites that happgarden gave you will be of help.
I have been doing a lot of punch needle work lately.
This is my new punch needle blog

Thanks everyone. Waste cloth comes in counts just like regular cross stitch fabric. I am just not sure how to figure out how big my pattern will be if I use 22, 18 etc.
You divide the number of stitches across your pattern by the size wastecloth you are using. Ex 140 stitches across the pattern using 14 count wastecloth would be 10 inches wide. Then you do the same thing for the length. Ex 168 stitches long using 14 count wastecloth would be 12 inches long. Your pattern would come out to be 10 X 12....
Oh Barb, thank you. I remembered there being a way, but haven't done this is so long I couldn't remember. I was going out on the web and see but feel more confident getting it from some one here.
Thank you so much.
