pavonia multiflora
Tropical Garden #89 - January 2011
Oh, that Pavonia multiflora is neat - where can I find one of these plants?!!!
I like her little bargain guy in the lower right of the above post.. looks like a fossil! That Pavonia multiflora is very cool looking, too.
So the Camellias are cold hardy? we could grow them here?
Debra: I'm amazed at the number of plants you have ... that is sure a lot of work, I can't imagine having to move so many plants in and out for the seasons. You do a great job too of caring and growing so many different types of plants. Your space is looking really nice ... makes me wish I had a basement. Duke is precious and I know he must enjoy his surroundings!
mj/Martha: You've got some beautiful plants too and I love that picture of your horses, beautiful animals! Gee, we've had such cold winters the past too I love pink and both the Camellia and the Turk's Cap are really pretty.
ardisia: Pretty bowl of Camellia blooms! Their beauty makes up for their lack of fragrance. The Azalea is really gorgeous, is that in your garden?
GAgirl: I like that Pavonia too, very nice! Your Codiaeum is C. variegatum, possibly cultivar 'Aureo-maculatum http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/92164/ or maybe 'Eleanor Roosevelt': http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/34313/
Some of the"Loquat"/"Japanese Plum's" are still in bloom:
I know Camellias grow in Maryland so I don't know why they would not grow in Kansas. There are probably varieties that are hardier than others. The problem might be that the flowers would not be as pretty if they were frequenty frozen.
GA girl, there is a little wild pavonia that grows around here, it is pretty but a terrible pest. Your plant is much prettier I would love for something like that to be invasive.
Lin, yes, the azalea is in my garden it is hard not to grow azaleas in SC. LOL
Every year I walk around the garden and take pictures of what is blooming around Christmas or the new year. This year it is zilch, nada, nothing. This is a picture taken January 13th, 2005 of some crinums.
Hi Everyone!
RachelLF, thanks, I find that working long hours with my plants helps me to forget the cold and all the sad happenings.
plantladylin, that is another positive id! The roots on the deer foot fern actually look like a deer hoof. I had a rabbit foot fern once.
Joeswife, thanks, my garden is not so green today, most everything lost their leaves the other night. It is much warmer today.
That is a perfect hibiscus shot, and I can see a very healthy alocasia bulb in one of your pictures. I would say that you are doing everything right!
mjsponies, that is a beautiful pink turk's cap. I have a nice clump of the white that came back for me last year.
Your boys are very handsome!!
ardesia, the camellias in the bowl would make a great centerpiece for a dinner table. I like the azaleas, ajuga combaiton as well!
GAgirl1066, thanks for brightening my rainy day with those pictures. You also gave me a new plant to research. I have to join everyone in saying your Pavonia multiflora is a very cool plant.
Variegated Clivia
Thanks Rachel, for the news about Steve.
It was certainly too early for him.
Steve is responsible for helping many websites to be more accurate with their plant taxonomy.
On his own website, Steve explained plants (especially Aroids) in complete detail:

Steve is greatly appreciated and missed.
GAgirl1066,
What do you do for your many flowers plant? Mine is just being right now and not growing or budding.
KayJones
I got mine from Logees
Tina
Not sure what you mean....the pavonia? I really don't do anything to it, just water and ever now and then fertilize it. I think it does best with high light. I love Logees, (they are expensive), but some of the things they offer as 'houseplants' are not really houseplants.
Hi Debra,
The plant is Hypoestes phyllostachya, Polka-dot Plant. It might be the 'Splash' cultivar.
Debra, pretty polka-dot plant and what a sweet picture of Duke. The other plant you asked about does appear to be a Dieffenbachia for sure.
mjs, double wow on those two vines and all that growth from the little cuttings I sent. Are they on steroids;-) Just joking and what a great picture of your boys playing a game. I love to watch them play.
Paula, pretty Calathea and Lin that is a nice shot of your Loquat in bloom.
Rita, I could not agree more with you on plants being good therapy and that is a nice variegated Clivia you showed.
Dave, great photo from your garden.
Peperomia caperata.
ardesia I forgot to tell you how pretty the pink noid is. I love noids, don't you?
I sure love the Peperomia caperata. Those look like they are blooming?
I didn't know they bloomed. Does everything have a bloom? If so, I am anxious to see some for the first time on many of my precious adoptees.
Nancys Revenge is asleep, right? I was afraid she was frozen as well. Her bottoms felt firm, tho, when I planted them. is this a good sign?
I feel guilty for showing non blooming leafless plants, but I think I need re-assurance on them.
So, do EEs have a bloom too?
I sure am enjoying everyone's wonderful plants! I wish I had gotten out on the deck yesterday and uncovered all of my plants. They sure could use some fresh air and they would have loved the rain we finally got. It rained all day yesterday and into the night, we got 2" total which we desperately needed!
ardisia: Those Crinums are really pretty, love the pink color!
Dave: Your garden is so scenic and lovely.
Rita: That blooming Peperomia is gorgeous and I love the little Tillandsia.
Debra: Those are some nice Coleus you have there. I ordered some in the co-op last year but they didn't survive the cold.
The only thing I have blooming is the Florist's Cyclamen that I bought at the grocery store a month or so ago.
Gee, every time I see your photo's Dave, I just want to move to Hawaii! Those Philo's are really awesome!
Oh gosh, *swooning* over the Aphelandra sinclairiana.. the leaves look like Pentas leaves, the blooms like justica.. *sigh* Dave your place is coming together really nice, please let me know when you are ready for company LOL
While I am visiting, I mite get a snip of that heart leaf Ivy.. that is beautiful.
Lin, your sunset pictures are awsome and I have never grown a cyclamen, but my favorite nursery, dutchs' is chock full of the biggest plants in such a variety of colours, you can see them from the street.
I didn't know that Dracaena fragrans blooms. I will have to try to get mine to do that.
Rita, your blue sky vine is what my yellow black eyed susan vine was supposed to be.. but I am happy to have it anyway.
Is that a tree philo, then? I keep telling Joe his Big Boy would really go crazy if it was on a tree. The leaves on that one look like the leaves on his.
Hi Ardesia, that is Artocarpus altilis, Breadfruit.
When a person has a mature breadfruit on their land, they will never go hungry.
