I am a bit surprised I have had so few sparrows(beside HOSP) in the yard so far this winter. So I am enjoying seeing their pics here!
Looks like you are improving Teddy!
I was happy to see the pileated out on the tree this morning. Will have to check the pics on the camera later.
Preparing for the snow coming. They have us in the 4-7 inches range for now. We live a bit out so sometimes we get more and have lots of farm fields in our area so lots of blowing snow to deal with. Picked up a cheap enclosed feeder & some sunflower hearts to put out tomorrow.
A video thread would be cool to add at some point! I have a few on Youtube now of the birds and the dog that are public.
Bad one thru the window of a Blue Jay.....I miss being able to have my ground dish inside the fence for the jays & crows!
Just walked thru the family room on the way to the coffee pot....out in the yard were 3 squirrels, 1 female piletaed, 2 female cardinals, 6 goldfinch, way too many juncos to count and a couple of housefinch! Oh, and 1 Song Sparrow!! lol
Loads of Junco's here too nanny. Different types of Junco too. Saw a Song Sparrow yesterday along with lots of House Finch, a family of Chickadees, some Titmice, Mourning Doves, a Blue Jay and 1 woodpecker (Downy or Hairy).
Nanny, Are you seeing your Junco's eat a lot of suet? Mine are chowing down on it and that makes me think they must be quite smart as opposed to just battling all the other birds for seed.
My White-throated Sparrows have been flying up onto the feeders to get seed too.
Yes I have noticed they do seem to be eating more suet this year! They clean up under the suet feeders and They are able to access the suet I have on the platform as well.
In past years I have had they ground dishes with seed available but don't this year. But they are cleaning up under the Safflower feeders too. In general, I don't seem to have as many of the birds that are ground feeders...yet anyways!
I have not seen any Juncos eating my suet cake, they sure like cleaning up under the thistleseed feeder, as this little fellow is doing. I have found out one secret of taking pictures, I relax and if I get a good photo, thats all good and well, but I don't stress anymore when I get a bad one. There were about 3 of them, but those little burgers are just like the Chickadees and Tufted Titmice. They are quick!
Very cute Teddy!
The Carolina Wrens are pretty!
Looks like he might have some House Sparrows them with him.
***Hack will be starting the new thread soon***
Yep that would do it!
Wow Nanny, looks like you have great numbers… Hope they stay there for the Backyard Bird count
Looks like Hack is unable to start the new thread so I'll be back with a link for the new one soon.
Hope Hack doesn't have issue with power outage. Winter storm down South just isn't fun at all. Thanks Pelle.
That might be the case.
