A lag in typing

I have noticed recently that when I am typing a message on some forums that there is quite a lag between the time I type and when it shows up as typing. Oddly enough it is not happening on any other site and it isn't happening while I type this. Does anyone have any suggestions? This is happening to others on How was your day over on Pets.

Thanks, Loretta

This is a new one on me Loretta. I haven't experienced it...anyone else?
(have you tried a reboot?)

Melody, I will try that. It is so strange that it isn't the entire site just some threads. I thought it was my keyboard.

Thanks, Loretta

My 'R' stuck last week and I thought that it was a sign of possible computer death coming on...it is fine this week, so it must have been a crumb or something...can't imagine how that happened. ;o)

Melody how would a crumb get in your keyboard? hehe

I am wondering if our problem has something to do with the number of replies on the thread. I have started a new thread and I will see what we think. It is kind of odd when I open the thread - there is a large black box and I click on Skip to new and the whole line shifts so I end up clicking on nothing. This is all very odd.

This is the thread - http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1147163/

That IS odd.
The thread looks normal to me though.
Let me know if you continue to experience it.

Melody, I started a new thread and the typing is fine. I am going to guess it is related to the size of the thread. I don't recall that happening before. We'll just have to start new threads sooner.

Thanks, Loretta

It really shouldn't matter about the replies, but I'm glad that it seems to have resolved itself.

Let me know if it resurfaces.

Like I said on the thread elsie, it happens to me sometimes on my son's laptop, but not just on DG. I'll type and type and nothing , then suddenly all my words appear - lol. Never did quite figure out why. I try not to type a lot on the laptop;o)

Same here and just on DG.

I couldn't get my computer to give me a black screen, but with 264 replies, some with photos, it's possible it's a slow-loading issue.

I have delayed typing problems, but it isn't just here (although it does happen here, too.)

I have this problem on "the other site" and it drives me insane. It does not make any difference on the size of the thread. And, of course, NOBODY else has this problem!!!!!!!

When my typing starts lagging, it is often because my browser is hogging memory.

(I don't open a lot of windows, but I often have a lot of tabs going and frequently several processes - email, a Word or Excel file, plus my browser. Mozilla can get bloated and bog down everything.

The easiest way to check on it is to press your Ctrl and Alt and Delete keys at the same time. That brings up a menu that includes task manager - click on it, click on processes and sort the columns by Mem Usage. Right now Mozilla is using between 800,000 and 900,000K of memory. That's high and a good sign I need to shut it out and start over.

All I have to do is click on it, then click on "End Processes" to shut it down. When I re-start it, it is polite enough to ask me If I want to re-start everything I had open when I pulled the plug on it. That usually makes things zippy again.

An alternative is to get more RAM. I was constantly having to clear out my temporary internet files and cookies and restart my computer in order for things to get back to normal. It turned out that I was using most of the RAM I had just running the PC, and when I added the internet and opening tabs it went beyond its capability to handle things. I added a gig of RAM, and voila!, everything's great.

yep - depending on the age of your PC, and the amount of memory you have, that may be a viable solution, too.
