I am starting a thread for my Bunting pics, now that I am finally getting some shots. The sun has barely come out again today, so a lot of the shots had to be lightened. Had to make the beautiful male Painted Bunting my first shot.
Buntings on vacation
They're such beautiful birds! Great photos!
Just beautiful! And I am just so jealous!!
Lovely birds!!
Thanks...seeing your pics of the buntings make winter more tolerable!
It makes' mine more tolerable too! As you can see from my pics, almost everything in the backyard has been killed back again from our freezes in December. At least the birds are colorful.
Those are beautiful pictures. You get both the Indigo and Colored Buntings. They are my favorite singing birds. It seems that you have some juveniles there going through a color change as well. They'll look amazing soon with the blue feathers.
Wonderful thread, GP. I absolutely love your Buntings. I may also mention that the ones you sent never arrived. Harrumph!
Geez, I'll have to contact FedEx, Margaret.
HA!!!
You do that, GP, because the Kookaburra I have as an exchange is getting pretty fed up being in that box. He doesn't think it's a laughing matter.
Well, I don't want a non-laughing Kookaburra!
Ha ha ha.
Great pictures, I sure hope my bunting make's it through the winter... Its cold here and snowing like crazy but, she still come's to the feeder 3 times a day. I have a heated bird bath so there's always water. I keep the feeder's full i guess the only other thing i can do is hope for the best. It would be nice to see her "nest" here come spring.
Oh GP. This is a great thread. Sorry about your freeze!
Thanks. Your Bunting will probably be fine, since you are feeding her well. Mrs_Ed, the freezes were exceptionally early this year, so we have an even longer time to enjoy looking at dead foliage. At least there won't be as much to cut back this year, since last year we had a severe freeze that killed back very large shrubs, and they had just begun to recover.
just curious, when it is going to freeze there, does anyone (or everyone) try to save any items with sheets and blankets? That happens here with early frosts and freezes in the fall (and spring). I know that you can't cover anything, but I wonder about how much you DO try to save.
I covered a few things this past freeze, including a Pride of Barbados and a Plumeria. Most stuff is just too large to try and cover. Last year almost everything did come back from the ground or slightly above. Other stuff in pots I carried into the garage or placed close together and covered.
Yah, I guess that's what I thought. Thank goodness for pots I guess.
Lovely shots GP! Fave for me is the bird bath one. Sweet little birds.
