In keeping with The Coen Brothers dark drole humor,
I will start the journey of my crismiss gift Chiapet Cat.
I believe there will be garden failures ahead for me the comming season.
These little forms of plantlife never seem to fail, at least the ads look promising.
This is my first one
ChiaPet
That is the cutest Chia Pet I've seen! Keep posting pictures as it grows, please.
I've never done one. What's the plant material in it?
Its a seed and water activated paste sort of goo that spreads on and sticks to the terrecotta.
It is cute, Jo.....the kitties will probably eat the grass.....
Very cute!! I know they get a lot of sarcastic press, but I like them! Looking forward to seeing the growth. What I wonder is how long does it remain viable?
I have no idea.Lets discover this together. I will post at regular intervals when sprouts start.
Great fun! I'm hooked! :)
The seeds are dry in a pak. You add some water and wait. They turn into a gooie blobb then I smeared that onto the pet.
But what are the seeds from?
The chia seeds are a mystery. The picture on the box looks like the mullit plants that sprout under the bird feeder. They dont have any place to form roots so its a short lived amusement.
OK, I had to go look this up. They are 'chia' seeds. Salvia hispanica is the Latin term.
" Food grade Chia seeds are said to have more Omega 3 fatty acids than flaxseed and are considered a good source of a number of vitamins and minerals. Health advocates are linking Chia seeds to reduction in blood pressure, increased energy and may help with joint pain."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salvia_hispanica
Now, see how healthy you will be with your new Chia pet!
Mental health most likely.
Brain calming to watch things evolve
I suppose if you sat still long enough to watch the chia grow it would be brain calming. Or numbing.
LOL Polly!!
And you could keep reciting 'Chi Chi Chi Chia', over and over, like a mantra. (Only aloud if the family is not home.)
My nephew wants to know what I named it.
LOL, Polly!
So, what DID you name him/her???? :)
I am taking suggestions
Maybe I'll get us started,"Seedy"
Wow, sounds like you should be eating those seeds, Jo.......Seedy is good for a name, or Weedy.
Everybody wade in here.
Great, now I have that theme song in my head!
I'm going for "Chita" or Cheetah or however you want to spell it. Cheetah ChiaPet. :)
Nice try everyone.
I will check it today to see if there is any sprouting activity.
'Cause he's going to have hair sticking up all over-----Albert Felinestein.
Wait I need a visual on Albert. That might be a winner.
Love it!
Albert Greenstein perhaps.
Yeah, I like the Albert concept given the unruly "hair" this pet will have!!
I just found this thread... can't wait to see how it grows
Me too, how did I miss this??
I like the look of this chia pet, hate some of the ones they put out....
So how many days is it supposed to take before you see growth?
I am just thinking that myself.
Of course I didnt keep the directions or other info.
It just seemed too simple .
As soon as daylight gets here I will look and maybe photo.
