Finally got the 2010 cannas up from the crawl.. looks like 3 of the four big pots are starting to grow. So I put them under the lights and watered them.
Guess I best fetch up the canna thread.. see what every one is doing there.
I really love that dark chocolate leaf there Jon.. and the red bloom, that is so rich looking. I will put them in big cans like the others when they arrive.
Back ASAP with that link!
THE GARAGE CAFE - JANUARY 2011
The new seed grown "Tropical Bronze Scarlet" Canna is very very similar to the "Australia" (one in above picture). The difference is "Tropical Bronze Scarlet" is a short variety. You might want to consider growing two of them together in a pot if the pot is pretty large. Cannas never stop growing and blooming down here. They're a little shorter in the winter, but they still keep sending up new growth and flowers.
Heres the link to the canna patch!

Well...looks like gardening 2011 has begun to spin! Wonder what other threads will be popping soon!
Sposed to be 60 today... rain coming.. oh and Jon, the tide was in big time yesterday from the snow piles, but it has wained.. I think I best go pick a pair of new sloggers! Im gonna have to get out of the winter wadders real soon in this heat! HA!
I've seen it's been real warm up North of here this week. Still the same ole sunny and 75-80 everyday and gonna stay that way the next week. Figured the tide would come in once that snow starting melting too fast. Hope the petunias do well for ya Blossom. I believe they are a brand new 2011 petunia variety. Had ordered quite a few seed packs for new petunias being released in 2011. Problem was I never got around to sewing them this past fall/early winter. It's too late to start them down here right now so I thought I might as well find them a happy home with Blossom.
Well, thank you again so much Jon...
Rumour has it that it might snow again this weekend, but I have not looked at any weather reports as of late. And just when we turned the heat off! Owell.. and boy and duty the weather has been talking to these old bones....
Ya'll pray for me as I am having issues with my good knee. Seems I am getting a hotpoker pain in that cap now and that aint good. Id kinda love to go to my grave with the parts I came in with..but been told that that might not be the case in the future.. Ihope I can make them wrong.
I cant wait to get gungho in gardening, but right now I still have some other work taking my time.
Hope Patty will be returning to the old Garage soon.. I know she has some things going that needs her attention and well, she is so missed.
Hope your good knee problems are something minor. Just have to take things one day at a time and see how things go/transpire and adjust to them.
Wouldn't be a shocker if you get more snow sometime soon. It's still only mid February, so it definitely can happen. Staying sunny and warm here for, at least, the next week. Wouldn't mind a bunch more cold fronts before they stop coming through here in April. Once they stop coming through there won't be any cool weather until October! Bummer.
HUSH JON.. I got a skiff of icey snow this morning.. its the reason the good knee was talking.. its progressive degerative arther...just hope I can keep my original parts... dont need no falling.
Im putting in an order for spring rain STAT... however most people in the tidal area prefer not to have it... we need the cleansing
Today its drizzling.. the ice went away....
Got an indoor hyacinth blooming.. Purdy in pank!
Thats neat, Jon..
The hyacinths are just barely scenting, but I expect in a week or so, I will waant to kick them out for being way to perfumey! Guess I ought to take some pics...
BULBS 2011 - whose in? Is up, c'mon in!
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1160163/
Not sure what Im starting next.. guess I best consider doing some veggies. Peppers, seems to be on my current list.. need to check on the past due list... ugh, so much to do, so little time. The local hardware just said outdoor plants will be arriving end of March.
Got room now on my plant stands.. kicked out a bunch of imp baskets that up and croaked.
Been debating on raising baby chicks... cost of feed is out the budget... I wont have any purebreds this year since my buff orp roo passed away last summer but have two lovely crossbred orp boys that are out of leghorn hens to go back on my leghorns and myorp girls so should be a good meat and layer cross anyway. The boys are huge! Could consider trading some hatching eggs if someone has any pure buffs in either white, blue or buff for hatching.....

Buck buck BUCK
Keep it up amore...your encouraging then hens..
When I hear them go bbbbe-GAAAAAAAK, I know I got eggies!
BE_GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAck!
Got the first of the season.. and so they begin! Its a buff orp hen baby!
Maybe they're laying Easter Eggs....albeit a but early. Tell them to lay a chocolate Easter egg!!!
Well, the egg is kinda pinkish!
Got 3 some inches of snow to slush today... typical spring....well it is as the crow flies.
Yuck. Getting to spring up there is always two steps forward one step back. Still sunny and 80 degrees every day. Planted some of those "Tropical Bronze Scarlet" Canna seeds about 10 days ago and noticed they've popped out of the dirt already. Put 4 seeds in an extra large container and all 4 seeds have emerged with that chocolate/brown foliage.
Well, the weather can be so unstable until May.
So whats shaking?
Patty got a trembler

Shake, rattle and roll. Gotta get my butt outside and do some watering. No rain the last 3 or 4 weeks now. Planted a few seeds under the grow light for summer heat loving things. The 4-5 months of nonstop summer heat will be here in 2-3 months. Not looking forward to it.
Well, we are up and down in temps and in and out with snow for a bit yet, but I think its sposed to be in the 50's Sunday? Not sure...
Got any spring bulbs outside peeking above the ground yet? Must be some daffodils somewhere poking through. Something keeps snapping some of my Delphinium flowers around the yard. I'm guessing it's some kind of bird landing on them. Noticed a few beetles chewing on some Cosmos and Dahlias. They appear every year in late February, hang around for 2 or so months and then vanish. Where they come from and where they go is a mystery to me.
Decided to order a couple of new Cannas from Karchesky Canna's. I think they sell around 140 different varieties. Their current availability can be seen on their blog. http://karcheskycannablog.blogspot.com
not yet, just some leaves are startnig to poke through.. I think though the last snow may have retarded them.
Just posted more hya's on the other thread.. and My three cannas are starting to grow.. one is doing great.. maybe too great.. its gonna hit the top of the lights soon! Guess I will have to take pics and post them.
I cant beleive that there are so many canna varieties! I will have to take a peak there!
OH, I took a peak.......gimme! Goodness, all those pinks! Love all of them every one!
Im going to fill pots with manure.. see ya...start sending them! LOL! The crawl space can handle a few in the winter!
There are probably many hundred(s) of varieties Blossom. I seem to gravitate toward the white or pink or apricot blooming ones. Don't overlook the foliage. Some of them have that blue/green foliage that looks very attractive.
I like the stripes on the leaves and the blue hues for foliage. As for the flowers.. oh man, gimme pink, white, red, yelllow what ever Im not fussy! OneI have uis Cleopatra.. yellow with a red blood splash! Awesome! Now you got me wishing I had enough to stuff in cans to go on a 150 foot line on that fencerow of mine.. Holy Holy would that wbe awesome! Only trouble would be would be storing them..going under the house putting up the cans would be a three man job.
I love that pink and spotted one on their website, that was different! Cant wait to get Dirtygilrs parcel!
Well its raining right now.. hope it washes that icky snow away.. then their talking snow again.. Awe, plez, just bring on the rain! However we will take what comes.
heres the cannas.. I have three large cans of them.. looks like the little one I go tlast year died...
I had Cleopatra a couple years ago. Very nice growing Canna with a nice unique bloom. The two I'm adding are Canna's "Beloved" and "Belinda". One is white with pink streaks and the other has pink/apricot colored blooms. Hopefully the other one will come back Blossom.
Eekkks ! Connectivity error again.. must be the rain? Got dome lightening. KNocked the lights out earlyer.. might have to debug the puter
The white and pink sounds neat! Pink and apricot too! WOW! Nice choices!
I think the one that Ithink died shriveled to oblivion.. twas nuthing left in the can.... but dirt... it was a little guy going in.. so it was not meant to be I guess.
Seed catalog anyone...
