Hanging in there part 5

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

We are lucky to have the State Park so close. Jamie called me the other day to tell me that there was an ice boat on the lake. You know one of those boats that sails across the ice. Must have been pretty cool to see. Josh got his girl snowshoes for Christmas and can't wait for snow so they can go hiking in the snow.

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Chris, I hear you on feeling the urgency to start Spring things!!

Anne, I never had either and when I told my friend I loved it, she snapped off a stem and gave it to me. I got home and shook out the seeds. White. I was a bit sad thinking they wouldn't grow. Well, the ferny little, and they stay about 6'' tall, grew. Next year they shot up and put out blooms. I've made sure to never lose them.

Doc, I never thought about putting onions in a pot. Cool! Laughing, those packets should last you a long while!

Chris, I agree with the colored peppers. Beautiful!!

Oh Gita, Oh Gita, Oh Gita, thank you SO much for the video! My heart swelled with each rise of the song. I complain every year that I can't find beautifully sung Christmas songs, and it was in my own Irish backyard all the time. Thank you!!

Chris, that is soooo cute! I love the bunny! We may get a tiny bit of snow today, but I'm not holding my breath. Suzie sounds like she was a real dancer! Both my soups, chili, and ham and bean leftovers are frozen.

Jill, LOL! Blue skies! Nothing prettier!

Anne, oops! Well, I'll bet it comes back with a vengence. Appropriate word?

FlowAjen, I love old sayings! Hey, maybe I'll get snow tomorrow! I used to ice skate better than roller skate. Don't ask me how!

Holly, so cool to both the boat and snowshoes! I love it that they will use them together!!

I was a pretty good roller skater. When i was in grade school they build a new school and they could not afford to put linoleum on the cement floor in the cafeteria. The Parish decided that they would have Saturday roller skating for us kids, and we had a great time. There was one older gentleman who we called "Uncle Al" and he spent a lot of time in there and also would be there for school lunches handing out the lunch trays. He was a highlite for our day, always ready for a big hug. Gosh, I haven't thought of that in decades. I even learned to shake backwards. I use to take my Girl scout troop skating about 2 times a year.
Sallyg, I thought pond skating was smooth, at least that is what it looks like in the movies and TV.

Holly, When you wrote Ice Boat, I thought of the Ice Breaker on the Great Lakes, since it has been so cold for a long time I wonder if Lake Erie has much ice. I think some Ice Boats like you are talking about sail on the Bay in Erie.

I think my Amarylis bulbs will be delivered today, I have been tracking them on line.
Glad you like the Bunny, I'll be using him quit a bit.

Near Lake Erie, NW, PA(Zone 5a)

My Amaryllis bulbs finally arrived I have been looking for the mailman all day.
They are Hugh bulbs and my free one looks like it has 2 buds showing already. They also sent me 3 packets of seeds 2 are flower mixture and one pack of Beef Stake tomato seeds.

I have restarted the Amaryllis thread from last year if anyone wants to check it out. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1148100/

We used to go roller skating every Saturday morn...I learned to roller skate in my kitchen....LOL guess it was winter

Near Lake Erie, NW, PA(Zone 5a)

I think I learned on our sidewalk in the summer. My first roller skates were the metal ones that you clamped to your shoes and straped over the shoe.
I was in heaven when I got my first real skates, so proud tying the strings together and slinging them over my shoulder to go skating, and the white shoe polish.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Yep had those skates, too

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

I only had the clamp on skates, and broke my arm falling in them on the sidewalk. Oddly, I do not find roller skating nearly as easy as ice skating. I guess I've never tried roller blades. That fad is way on the wane isn't it?

Going to the amaryllis thread so I can watch your progress Chris.
: ^)

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

I have my Ice Skates from 1960, size 8 1/2, that I bought for $125 . A lot of money back then....

I have posted them on Craigs List--and only one deranged, goofy, person has expressed any interest.
I am NOT going to deal with her! She must live in her own space of "WEIRD"!

I also have a set of Roller Skates. My daughter used them maybe one year.
Both are available for a very reasonable price.
D-Mail me if you are interested....And--I apologize if this is inappropriate to say this here--on a Thread...

Near Lake Erie, NW, PA(Zone 5a)

No problem Gita, this is really a chat thread. We just might get some folks interested it skating again. Can't do that anymore, can't risk a fall.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

I tried roller blades once, really hurt thru the shins. Don't know if it was because I hadn't been skating in ages.

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Chris, how much fun! In the next town, they had a skating rink. Birthday parties were popular there. I can still see myself asking for my size skates and never skating well, but well enough to get off the rail!

The bunny is a winner! There's something about him. He's just cute!

WOW on those bulbs! Ooh ooh, I see the two leaves! I have the A thread watched, to get back to later. This will be neat, to see everyone's blooms!

FlowAjen, we had/have a barn at home and Dad put down a plywood floor in the haymow so we could skate up there.

Chris, you and my Mom, same skates :o) You and me! Shoe polished white ones!

Anne, how terrible to break your arm. Poor little girl! No roller blades here. I'm old enough and smart enough to stay on my feet and off rolling things!

Gita, nice skates! I would have been three and not in skates yet, LOL! Keep trying. Someone would like a nice pair from the 60's. (I don't see a problem with any of that.)

It's Friday!

Yesterday, I attempted Hummus without Tahini. It was a bit dry, but I added a leftover dab of no-fat sour cream and also processed it right after I had chopped jalapenos for poppers. Then I made a fresh fruit pie! Laundry and dishes are done and I got groceries moved around in the pantry and cupboards. I missed exercising, so I have nothing in my way today!

Near Lake Erie, NW, PA(Zone 5a)

I have all my scans and tests today, it is an all day thing. I'll post when I get back today.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Good luck, we will all be hoping for the best.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Hope you have something to read, and I'm sure you'll get lots of friendly hellps from the nurses and techs- you probably know them all too well by now. Good luck,Chris!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

best of luck Chris hope you come back with good news

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Prayers go with you my friend!!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Adding my prayers for everything to go smoothly and for the tests & scans to come back with good results!

Near Lake Erie, NW, PA(Zone 5a)

Got back just a short while ago. My blood test from last month started some concern about using the contrast medium for the CT scan. the dye can be hard on the kidneys so the radiologist said they did not want to take a chance and cause more problems. We did the CT without the contrast.
The other test went fine. I'll get the results next Friday when I see my oncologist.
The bone scan is easy I get an injection of nuclear contrast material and then come back in 3 hours for the scan. It takes that long for the injection in be absorbed into the bone marrow. Then you have to lay very still on the table till the camera goes over your whole body head to toe. Then he took 3 other short scans of the hips and each side of the rib cage.
For the 3 hours in between Paul and I went to lunch and we shopped at the used bookstore. I have enough books to read but I found a 1000 piece puzzle, I have not done a puzzle in a long time and was thinking about getting one. And since I have been doing a good job of keeping the dinning room table cleared off I can treat myself. I can lift the table cloth back to do the puzzle and put the table cloth back over the puzzle when I am not working on it.
Paul will be gone in the morning, spending an overnighter with an all male orginization he belongs to.
They hoist a few drinks so better to do an overnight then trying to drive home. Tomarrow I plan to plant my new bulbs, watch a movie from Netflix and do my own thing.

Thank you all for the well wishes, you are the best!

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Chris~ you deserve the best. (Can I get an A-MEN to that?!!)

Its good for Paul that he can get out with the guys sometiems, esp when they play it safe like that. .

Do your own thing- sounds really good to me. Kids add to the fun but- I cooked a WHOLE BOX of pancake mix this morning to feed various and sundry total of eight teenagers. And they ate every one. Heated up soup and served lunch to DH and me. Went to the store for supplies, came home, made sloppy joes for six. Spent a lot of time in the kitchen today!

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

A-MEN
Sally sounds like you had quite the day. Surprising how much of my week can be filled up by my adult kids and grandchildren. It is really nice.

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Chris, good news so far and prayers for good results for the rest.

Yayyy on the puzzle and how nice to fold the table cloth over it. I have to watch the cats knocking pieces to the floor, but at least there isn't a dog to chew them up, LOL!

Yay to Paul letting off steam!

AaaaaaMennnn!

Today is going to be another me day. I need to re-clean up the picture folders and unload the camera again. I don't have a lot of pictures on it, but I've forgotten what is :o) I won't review, I'll just be suprised, or disappointed!

Near Lake Erie, NW, PA(Zone 5a)

I got my bulbs planted yesterday. Started on the puzzle, it is going to be a hard one. I didn't get the outside edge finished, the cuts can be very deceiving.
Fred, our cat, use to lay on the table a lot, I gave up on decluttering it for a long time, I think he tried to jump up there a few times and slipped on the clutter. He has not jump up there since I finally decluttered it.
It has been snowing here a lot, and still very cold. But the days are getting longer, that is a plus.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

My Mom has a puzzle board. You can lay your board out with the puzzle and pieces on it then move it to another location if you need too. Not sure how big it is.

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Chris, I have to laugh at your cat. It's funny when they slip on loose piles!

I'll bet it felt good to pot up the amaryllis. I have the site bookmarked. I haven't had time to read it yet.

What picture did you chose, on the puzzle?

Holly, I'll bet it holds 500 or less. I have to sort my puzzle by color as I'm sorting out the border. Yes, I do have to be organized, even doing a puzzle, LOL! But it's how I like to work them and it relaxes me. I scooch them into a hill so I can spread out the pieces I'm putting together. I use a card table for 1000 pieces. Gets a bit cramped, but at least I don't have an ashtray up there anymore!

I owe myself a walk on the treadmill yet. Dad came when I only had 5 minutes on it. Then it was time to eat and then I had coffee and now I'm trying to be less full so I can walk :o)

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

I started back at Water Aerobics last week. I go every other day and hope to start walking again soon. I also have dug out my old Weight Watchers books and have cut back on the amt of soda I drink. I lost 7# this week my goal is 50# this year.

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Holly, that's fantastic! Like you, I am going to be fit the first day of spring, not the first day of summer.

Now I am caught up and I am going to walk!

Have a fantastic day all!

I found the puzzle picture on line, easier to show you then discribe it

NORTH CENTRAL, PA(Zone 5a)

That puzzle will take a day or two. LOL

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

I have done several of the on line puzzles they are fun. Some of them the pieces are in the direction that they will be in the puzzle so you don't have to turn the piece. Not all of them are like that but you should be able to tell when you work the edges unless the puzzle tells you.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

I haven't done a jigsaw in AGES but have several nice ones that we've done 2 or 3 times, hate to just toss them. One is a kitty cat that looks just like our old cat Puddin.

Funny coinci--one day some neighbor kids came over and said thye were doing a white elephant exchange kind of thing, It was a youth group activity which gave us a chance to say hi. They gave us a dog toy (perfect for our new dog) and we had a brand new puzzle in box I forget why I had it for no reason but it was the perfect exchange item. Amazing how nicley that little event
worked out.

I once did an all white puzzle. After solving you could write or draw on it. I did it by brute force trial and error.

I always do the edge first- does everybody?

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

sally--

Your all-white puzzle HAD a name---you just did not know it...

"Lone Ranger's Horse lost in a Blizzard"......Teee....Heee.....

I have not done a puzzle in ages myself--and, YES!--I aso start with the edges.
Where else would one start?????

G.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

They have those roll up jigsaw puzzles savers too, wonder how well they work????

Good going Holly, It's amazing how much weight you can lose by just cutting out drinks and just drinking water. For me, I already cut that out so have nothing to cut there. I really need to start exercising again. I took a metabolic test that tells you what foods you should be eating and was doing really good on it but the holdidays came and that was the end of that. I have no self control around chocolates. The weight that I'm trying to get rid of it from the baby fat from my 4 yr old!!!

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Chris, very pretty puzzle! I love colors! I think it's going to be a hard one!

Anne, cool story on the gifting! I love stories like that.

DON'T give up old puzzles! They have the interesting shapes like stars and such.

I do the edge first. When I'm done, I put the edge in a baggie. I don't feel it's ''cheating'' to have it sorted for the next time.

Gita, giggling over the puzzle name :o)

FlowAjen, ''baby'' fat is hard to get rid of :o(

It's snowing and DD is dropping the grandkids off today.

Near Lake Erie, NW, PA(Zone 5a)

My appointment had to be moved, I'll be seeing her on the 21st instead of this Friday. She is out of town. I am hoping for good weather and clear roads.
We are getting "The Snow" right now. I went to work this morning and it started snowing at 3:00, I left the office at 3:15 and the roads were almost covered, glad I left when I did, I had to stop at a light in town where I live and the tires took a while to grab when the light turned green, and I eased into the gas, so this stuff is very slippery. I can stay put till Monday if I have to, maybe I'll get that puzzle done. LOL
I still have two pieces of the edge to find. That is how hard this one is. I don't even have 1/5 of the bottom done, and have worked on it everyday on and off. But I am having fun !

Gita like the name you gave the white puzzle, you're a hoot. LOL

I have seen thoses puzzle roll up's too Jen, but never talked to anybody that has used one.

Anyone snowed it yet? I'll have to get pictures tomarrow.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Snug as a bug there!

My kids came home two hours early before a sinlge flake had fallen. We had some promising showers of big fluffy flakes but they quit before covering anything. Just can't say what to expect down here!!

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Ric has been out running all day. Had his teeth cleaning then lunch with some friends. On to one of his favorite pastimes visiting every second hand shop he can find. Then some shopping at "the fancy" market before heading home. I have no complaints I'm still nursing my cold and he came home with fresh made sushi.
Jen I think it is harder to loose just a few pounds. Your body just doesn't want to give them up very easily.
Chris, Enjoy your snowed in days. Nothing nicer than sitting in a warm house looking out at pretty snow.

Near Lake Erie, NW, PA(Zone 5a)

Holly talking about looking out the window. It is really great when I am in my basement plant room, the cellar window gives a different perspective on the world. Nice looking at snow at ground level.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Snowing like crazy right now, school is cancelled for tomorrow.

The sun broke thru the clouds today around lunch time and at the same time began to snow, the most unusual snow flakes, heavy duty star shaped, cupcake decoration flakes...never saw this before
