Today, I am thankful for...

(Debra) Garland, TX

The co-worker who doesn't mind going to my house to change a flat...and the boss who doesn't mind paying him to do so.

The beautifully warm weather that will be here until morning.

Always and forever, my sister Cathy.

How old are you two in this picture, Debra, and which one is you? (hugs) to everyone you mentioned!

(Debra) Garland, TX

She was two and a half, I was three and a half. We were living in Denver at that time. I'm the standing one. She busted her chin on that trike and had three stitches. And I never laughed at her...for that, anyway. LOL

I'm thankful to have had the mother I did for as long as I did. She died yesterday at 86. I'm thankful that I called and talk to her the night before even though she had Alzheimer's and hasn't responded in an understandable way for months. She was an amazing lady. Kind and sweet natured to the very end.
I'm thankful for my "family" in every sense of that word. The ones I share genetics with, the family of my hearth and heart and my family in cyberspace.
Hope you all have a blessed Thanksgiving Day!!! (Jim)

Life, love, family...fur-faced and actual related, friends, DH's steady paycheck, our troops, our ancestors, the rocks, trees, the plants that feed us and give us pleasure, the water that falls from the sky and every day the Sun rises.

I will remember those who came before and provided us with the knowledge to do for ourselves. Every day.

mulege, Mexico

Thankful for all of you, speakers and lurkers. For a day with so little pain that I did not even take an aspirin. For a home and garden and friends that are awaiting my return.

Thankful for friends here and there,
thankful for God everywhere
Thankful for my good health,
and for not having vast wealth.

no more thoughts...brain leak or writers block??

Today, I am thankful for...

Indoor plumbing (not kidding!)

The boss who nagged me into buying a house.

Always and forever, my paternal grandmother Harriet.

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

I'm thankful that I can still feel pain, because it means I'm still alive.
I'm thankful that I have a sense of humor, because if you can't laugh you might as well be dead.
I'm thankful that I have had the Parents, and Grandparents I had, those of blood kinship and those who gave from their hearts.
I am thankful for all my siblings.
I am thankful my DH is a good provider, and we have a good roof over our heads, good food to eat, and that our material needs are met.
I am thankful my boys are growing up to be men.
I am thankful I get to live on this patch of ground, I consider to be beautiful.
I am thankful for the companionship of friends and like minded people. Including acquaintances who didn't even know that they made my day better.
I am thankful for my dogs, who slurp my face, and make me laugh.
I am thankful for my cats (even though I have to clean their catbox), because they keep me company at night, and purr when the pain is most intense.
I am thankful that it is no longer 34 degrees and is now a brisk 55 degrees.
I am thankful for so many things that others take for granted.
Last but not least I am thankful for music that lifts spirits and inspires one.
Walk In Beauty!

I'm thankful I can pay a parking ticket online cause I don't have any stamps.

I'm thankful I probably have a new PCA to work weekends! (PCA = Personal Care Attendant) The current one keeps dropping me and making stupid mistakes.

(Debra) Garland, TX

Today, I am thankful for...

Living in Texas (previously lived in Indiana, Florida, and Colorado)

Flavored instant coffee, especially the Hazelnut Cafe

My fifth grade Science teacher. She bought me two pair of shoes out of her own money so I could go school.

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

We all have a lot to be thankful for, don't we? : - )
We just had our most profitable opening day ever, for the Christmas Trees. : - )
Did I mention how grateful I am for my morning hot chocolate? Hard to start the day off without it. : - )
carrielamont. I sure hope you reported the former aide for her rough handling of you. No one giving care should act like that. I never did when I worked at a nursing home. (Same work basically, just a different setting.) Although, some of my patients weren't nice to me. I had one who'd deliberately drop her full weight on me, and she weighed twice as much as me. She thought it was funny. I can't really blame her because she was considered mentally retarded (don't know the PC term for that these days.) She had a full grown body, but the mind of a mischievous little kid.
I hope you receive better care now, carrie.
lovemyhouse, Mom told me that if she hadn't gotten pregnant before she graduated from high school, that her teachers had saved and arranged for her to have a scholarship to college. Ooopps. The school teachers back then, were so aware of what was going on with their students,.
Mom grew up during the depression. Back then they all had to work. Even Mom and her next oldest brother. That meant that they couldn't go to school Mom loved school. She made an arrangement so that she could pick up a weeks homework from school, and not pick cotton on Fridays so she could go to school and take the tests. She really motivated all 5 of us to get at least some college education. When I was in my early 20's I helped her go back to school (I took care of my Step Grandmother, who was living with us after she'd had a stroke.), I typed up Mom's papers, and I even made oatmeal and peanut butter cookies for her class once when she was flat out of time. I was very proud of her for getting her nursing degree. : - )
Aren't teachers great? Well, most of them?
I never finished college, but, that is because I don't need a degree, and if I had one, they'd charge me more to take classes at the college. I could easily become a teacher, but with the fibro, I just can't commit to that kind of a schedule. I just don't know how I'm going to feel from one day to the next. I could also ask to be re-instated in my old job, as a civil servant, and according to the rules, I'd go to the top of the list. Can't do it, too stressful working for Dept. of Corrections.
I'd rather be a planetologist, but since I can't do that, I can help take care of the planet we live on.
: - p
I saw a funny t-shirt. Had a picture of the planet and said, "Save the Planet! Duct tape can't fix everything!"
Cracked me up. I don't think they made enough duct tape to go all around the planet, but I'm probably wrong. : - )
Hope you all have a great day. : - )
I have to go check for freeze damage. My thermometer is telling me it got down to 23 degrees last night and is currently 25 degrees! Brrrr!
(Hugs to you all!)

I am thankful the sun is warming things up after a freezing cold night

I am thankful for all the true survivors in my life. I’ve only recently become a member of the adult conspiracy, but I figure nobody can get thru life without encountering at least a few major catastrophes. Having grown up surrounded by survivors, I feel confident I can handle whatever life throws at me withut ever falling into the role of chronic victim.
I’m also thankful to have not only survived, but enjoyed my Thanksgiving feast. It was prepared by those of the male persuasion and none had much prior cooking experience. They even did the cleaning up after. I think the latter borders on miraculous! ~Nadi~

Singing Wolf, the Attendant only drops me because she is weak, probably literally a 98-pound weakling. I can't fire her until I have a replacement. Tomorrow I'm interviewing a woman who is well recommended and REALLY wants to work for me. (But can't start until 2 weeks, I think.)

(Zone 7a)

Today, I'm thankful for snowblowers. We have 6"+ of snow and more falling.

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

I'm a 98 lb. weakling, and I'm glad she isn't doing it intentionally. Takes a weight off my mind. : - )
Kwan, I'm thankful you have that snow blower pointed away from me. LOL!
lovemyhouse, thank you for sharing the photo of your paternal Gma with us. Special people should not be forgotten. : - )

YOW-zah! I'd be thankful for a blower, too. I remember shoveling that stuff when I was a kid. I am veryveryveryveryvery thankful I live in North Central Texas. LOL

Today I am thankful to have someone who will fluff my pillows, bring me chicken soup and remind me headcolds go away in a few days. :-)
Can I borrow some snow just for Christmas day and return it the day after? I've never had a white Christmas. Nighttime temps here are expected to be in the low 30's by Wednesday. Still warm in the daytime though.

(Zone 7a)

All who ask may have all the snow they wish. LOL

Today I am thankful for...

The overnight rain so I don't have to water the beds after work.

The leftover Tres Leches cake in the office refrigerator because I was running to late to eat breakfast at home.

The fact that my most irritating employee called in sick and I will be peaceful and free today. :-)

Today I am thankful...

That my boss was in a good mood.

That my MS "Fight Like A Girl" zip-up hoodie arrived.

That my most irritating employee turned in his notice this afternoon. :-)

I am thankful for my books and PlayStation 2 on cold rainy days. (Even though I really. REALLY want a PlayStation 3 or a Wii.) The doctor said a Wii game would be good for Papa Jim. You have to get up and move with that one. Doctors are recommending it as an interesting way to exercise. I am also thankful for pain specialist doctors who recommend Wii to their patients. Now, I can spend my money on a Wii with a clear conscience. My godfather NEEDS it. I'm sure he will let me play on it sometimes. lol. ~Nadi~

Wow, it almost looks like mud cracks in reverse! Still don't want your snow. LOL! It's been awfully cold here lately. Last few days it's been very windy too. Rain is due on Sunday night. I am really
thankful it won't be raining on my Tree Lighting this year. : - )
Should be fun, if I can get enough rest between now and then.
Thankful that I'm looking forward to delighting other people again. : - )

(Debra) Garland, TX

SW, in the midst of large worries, it's easy to forget that comfort can be found in small gratitudes. One of my employees attended a beloved uncle's funeral today. She was thankful it wasn't raining. My boss is loudly temperamental, and vents that temper at me first. I once received a raise that was literally labeled combat pay--because he's mad a lot. He is thankful enough to me to provide a 2009 Prius, an iPhone, and a large salary. Which means that I can afford to give half the net to my sister to help raise the four grandkids living with her. For which I am EXCEEDINGLY thankful. Yet with all the compensation, some days the most thankful thing for me is escaping at the end of the day. ;-) But the point of the thread is that there IS always something to be thankful for, even if we just sometimes have to search hard to find it.

Debra

(Zone 7a)

A person whose inner eye is open has no need to look for things for which to be thankful. They're there in front of them.

Today, I'm thankful for my friend Crissyr.

(Debra) Garland, TX

Yes, but those of us like me whose inner eye is often clouded by pain and illness and infirmity sometimes need help in seeing. :-)

Today I am thankful for:

Kay and Jim and Carrie.

Nadine's Sunday artworks.

The boss' 16 month old grandson, who is in the office today. He's a cheery, sunny, giggly hoot...and likes to wear his spaghetti. LOL
