Well, I have me a new technique for "ambushing" birds with my 40D. I sit in my wheelchair inside my shed, in the shadow, with the doors open. I have three feeders close by. All of these pics were taken that way.
I wish it were a little brighter (for faster shutter speeds). This female Cardinal landed in a Chinaberry tree near a feeder.

DAILY BIRD PICS Vol. 357
wow hack, you're a bizzy bee! Before you found us, Burn had a whopper of a snow total one year and it did not melt for a lonnnnggg time. So, hence, boo, snow! We northerners always get a chuckle out of the news video of southerners trying to drive in snow! I must say it is nice to see birds in the snow though.
Thanks for the Meadowlark, rose! Such a happy bird.
Hack, thanks for the nice comment. I kinda like snow on the ground instead of dead brown vegetation. It brighten up the landscape a bit. Don't like it on the road much though. Your pictures turned out really really good. I love them just the way they are.
LOL Rose Brrr is the right word I"ll wear it well. Your Meadowlark is so pretty, looks like a happy bird to me. Love those Red-bellied, wish I had them here.Too sad about the Goldfinch, hope it doesn't limit him to much.
Resin that's good to hear. I'm more then happy to host them this winter. I'll be keep my eyes peeled for the Hoary.
Mrs-Ed, yay jumping around holding your hand. And wishing, they pay you many visits this year too. :)) Now I want the Pine Grosbeaks lol. I'm never satisfy with what I have, always want more.
ha!!! I know what you mean about not being satisfied. Well, hoping for a couple of Redpolls then. I thought I read that they had a good supply of white spruce seeds this year though. It was in the Ontario finch report. Still, fingers crossed. Hope to see those American Tree Sparrows too. They are adorable.
Mrs-Ed true, to much snow, NOT good. That was in 2008, where the feeders on the poles, were touching the snow. That was a hard one. I'll have to find a picture to show Hack of the amount we had. DH was so fed up with the shoveling that year. And he's still dreading it this year, trying to wish it away.;)
Good catch on the berry eating Robin, Nanny.
Bit of a crowd--no reservations?
HA. That's such a good photo. How in the world do you fill those things.
I read that Finch report too some seeds have a good crop good and some are low...but don't remember now which seeds were what!
Wow, the thread is moving along nicely, it's almost too fast for me to keep up with. Burn, what a contrast b/w your weather and ours this time of year. Here I haven't experienced the first killing frost, and you're in several feet of snow! Oh how pretty the snow looks, but not while we're driving on it is furrr sure. lol. Love all those pics.
Rose the Eastern Meadowlark is sure is attractive. I'll look it up just to hear its song, agreed it looks to be one happy bird! Duc, love the series you posted yesterday, it's cute to see the House finches interact with each other. Hacks, I've several neighbors that host Eastern Blue Birds in my Island. Last winter, Blue birds came to my suet feeder for supplement feeds. I hope they will return this year. Please send me some of those cute song and White Throated Sparrows, I love those wrens too.
Cardinal at feeder begging me to refill it yesterday.
Wonderful pics Lily, burn, nanny, Hack, dellrose, Elphaba, ducbucin, red and nanny!!!
Burn, I remember when you had a bad winter it was unbelievable. We are supposed to have a mild one this year (keeping my fingers crossed). I am looking forward to seeing your Redpoll's and possibly the Grosbeaks.
Again great shots everyone!
Thank you all for sharing your great photos!
Love the snow pics.....

Snow makes some beautiful bird pics. I'm glad Burn has that pretty stuff instead of me. In fact I'm changing my latitude today. Turkey day in Dallas and going to my grandson's championship football game in Cowboy Stadium Friday night. The Friday Night Lights don't get any brighter than that. I wish all a Happy Thanksgiving.
A visiting GF this morning.
I had a couple of purple finches this morning and possibly a pine siskin. Dadburn things would not stick around long enough to get a picture! I think there must be a hawk around somewhere, I have not seen many birds here at all this morning. I went out with my camera and sat out there for quite awhile, and no birds, I heard them but did not see them. Someone else must be feeding the sparrows, because I have not seen them congregate on our feeders like they were before, not disappointed, and burn_2007, great pics of the snow and the feeders. I hope we don't have that much snow, last winter we had 14 inches of the white stuff! I don't need another winter like that one.
Elphaba, your little bathing jay is adorable.
Burn congrats on your first Redpolls. Looking forward to those pics. Your starling is a beauty. Can't believe there's so much snow already-your birds are lucky you put out food for them. I got a kick out of your jay with the stuffed mouth. Poor little goldfinch. I do hope it will survive. Hope your snow doesn't get up that high this year!
Rose, your meadowlark is gorgeous!! Great shots of the wps too!
Hack your pictures are wonderful. Looks like you've found a great place to sit and photograph your feathered friends. Your finch is a handsome guy. Keep watching, maybe you'll find your orange variant too. I like that White-throated Sparrow too-just found my first one this year too, but haven't seen it since.
Nanny, cute robin, especially the one with the berry-great job.
Lily, bet your cardinal is enjoying the sun, water and food there. Cute!
Red, great photo of your goldfinch.
Kc, hope there isn't a hawk around. I love the Pine Siskins, enjoy them and the finches.
We don't get the large amounts of snow like you all do, but it's pretty to see our surrounding mountaintops with their 4 inches of it. Here's my cute Brewer's Blackbird I've named "Stubby". I'm always glad to see he can eat without the longer bill he should have.
Saw my first Blue Jay today! He swooped down and got a peanut and was gone before you knew it.!
Thanks you all for your comments.
According to the article on EBird, I might not see the Pine Grosbeaks this winter, :( because of a bumper crop of Mountain Ash berries plus the crabapple crop is high too. What surprised me, I never seen the Pine Grosbeaks much in the Crabapple trees. They were mostly BOSS eater here.
I do have the Bohemian Waxwing though. They were here for a short visit this morning. http://ebird.org/content/ebird/news/ron-pittaways-winter-finch-forecast-2010-2011
Lily, no killing frost yet!!! My feeder picture with the snow was of March 2008. Right now, we have about 3" of snow on the ground. Wouldn't want that big amount , for the start of winter. I'd surely go in hibernating mode. ;)
Lovely pics duc! Glad Stubby and the Junco are doing okay.
Nice pic of the Goldfinch kc!
Good one nanny. I'm going to try and move some finch feeders before the ground freezes too.

Pretty quiet here today except for Junco's, House Finch, Purple Finch and occasional other visitors.
Beauties everyone! My folks are arriving any second now, but I have to share what happened today. I heard the jays, looked out, red-tailed hawk on the lawn! My little dog went right out the doggy door and came up on it. It flew into my tree. Would have taken the best pics of my life except I'd been trying to get the full moon early in the am, and set the exposure compensation at -2. It was cloudy out and I had the camera set for a super sunny day! Dang it. I brightened my pics a bunch and will share two.
On the lawn.
Great shots of the R.T. Hawk, Elphaba. Enjoy your family.
Wonderful pics Elphaba! I love the Red-tailed Hawks!
