This thread is for trading Texas native plant seeds, no plants. Open to Texas members only.
************************************************************************************************************************
Sign up period of time
November 20th to November 27th
During this time you can sign up by posting on this thread that you want to be part of it. You can post your seed list, but there will be no trading until November 28th.
Trading period of time
November 28th to December 4th
During this time we will trade but after December 4th the thread will be closed to trading so that we can proceed with mailing our trades.
You can dmail the person you are trading with to get their home address. Usually you would send that person a self stamped self addressed envelope for your seeds, but I think that if you are sending seeds to each other it is a wash out and it wouldn't be necessary. It would be best to discus this with that person to see what is best for both of you.
I hope this will be a very successful endeavor and that we will all benefit by growing lots of beautiful Texas native plants for our Wildscapes. Let us have Fun!!!

This may have already been covered but there are so many threads I'm a little overwhelmed (nothing unusual). How do we know who we are trading with and will we get a want/need list from them?
Do Chiltepin pepper seeds count? They are the official Wild/Native Pepper of Texas.
At this point all my seeds are commercial, but I have a lot of Horsemint but I think their seeds have already flown the coop. Still some Sunflower and Golden Rod around tho.
Stupid question. What the easiest way to get the seeds out of the dried flower heads? I always give up and think for 1-2 dollars I could buy them. How about native grasses?
Lisa
Here is what I could find...
hibiscus laevis, halberd leaved swamp mallow
ipomoea alba, moonflower
ipomoea lindhiemeriana, Lindheimer's Morninglory (very few seeds)
lantana camara, pink and yellow blooms
lupinus texensis, bluebonnet (not scarified)
monarda citriodora, lemon balm
passiflora foetida, running pop
pavonia lasiopetala, pavonia rock rose
salvia coccinea, 'coral nymph' and solid white on same plant
salvia coccinea, 'lady in red'
salvia coccinea, lavender
salvia greggii 'wild thing' (very few)
salvia lyrata 'purple knockout'
sophora secundiflora, Texas mountain laurel
Tonya
Promised to:
txaggiegal: s. coccinea, lavender
frostweed: healall

My space. Since the sign up is limited, there won't be as many people on this thread.
C
Yes, Chile Pequin is native, as to the easy way to get seeds out, some are easier than others.
I have resorted to putting the pods i a paper bag and beating them with a rolling pin, then you have to sift them somehow.
Thanks that will get my aggressions out too. lol Like I said tho most of my natives have already gone to seed.
So far I have found seeds on these plants:
Still available:
west Texas mistflower
strawberry bush euonymus - ajntexas
chiltepin pepper - ajntexas
inland sea oats - Sheila_FW
gayfeather - allwild
No more available of these available:
damianita - newtonsthirdlaw
chocolate daisy - allwild
snapdragon vine - frostweed, realbirdlady, Sheila_FW

I see now how not labeling my plants is quite a disadvantage. I definately need some good plant labels, any suggestions for those that last.
C
We got ours for the Fielder garden at Redenta's for 65 cents each and they are very nice.
I'd like to participate!
Seeds on hand:
Phlox drummondii - 1 left
Winecup - all out. :(
Tecoma stans 'yellow bells' - 3 left
Indian blanket - 6 left
blue mistflower - 2 left
bluebonnet (non scarified) - 2 left

Great Carey, will add you to the list.
I hate to tell you but Lilac tree, Vitex agnus-castus is not a Texas native and has been on the Texas invasives list for quite a while. Unfortunately some nurseries sell it as Texas Lilac, which leads to confusion.
Here is the link.
http://www.texasinvasives.org/invasives_database/detail.php?symbol=VIAG
Josephine.
You are welcome, I was afraid to tell you for fear you might take it the wrong way, but I am glad to see you understand.
I think A&M has it as one of their Texas SuperStar species, too, which certainly might lead one to think it belonged here.
Yes, not everyone sticks to natives, it is a very pretty plant and performs very well, maybe too well!!.
I put the link to Texas Invasives Database at the top post on this thread as well;
http://www.texasinvasives.org/invasives_database/index.php
I was thinking I had read you mentioning npot.org as a good link as well, Josephine. Am I remembering wrong?
Another Texas native plant site is txflora.org. http://txflora.org/Search.aspx?NoFilter=true
It's far from complete but it has a lot of search filters including by county.

Great Kittriana, and Allwild, I will add you to the list of participants, and please don't forget to post your list.
We have until the 27th, then trade away.
Josephine.
Josephine, Do you think we need a seperate thread just for our seed list, so we don't have to sort though chat and request to find everyones have list?
Also I think it is important that everyone list both genus and species, it's the only way to know for sure if it is a native. Just saying something like honeysuckle or even lonicera could be native, non-native or even the invasive ones.
It says at the top of this thread this is for seeds only.
Actually there doesn't have to be a seperate thread just a master list of links in the first post, like in the link below. It will make it a lot easier to find everyones list.
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1120385/
This message was edited Nov 21, 2010 5:29 PM
Also I meant to add please remove my name from the list. There is no way that I can participate at this time of year. There is just too much else going on and as I let all my plants reseed themselves the only seeds I have now are commercial. I'm also involved in another exchange so I overextended myself.
Thanks,
Lisa
Oh Lisa I am sorry, are you sure?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
AJ, I will probably start another thread for trading when all the lists are posted, with links so it will make it easier. I still have a ways to go with my list and not many people have posted yet, but we will get there.
Josephine.
Josephine,
I'm not sure of anything. LOL All I have is Texas/Oklahoma Blend, Hummingbird/Butterfly Blend and BB from wildseedfarms.Oh also the Chiltepin pepper seeds, which I gathered myself. I didn't realize Thanksgiving is next week too. I don't have time to go through and figure out what is native and what isn't and how much I need of each. If anybody is interested in the above seeds I'll be happy to trade them. I'm really more of a veggie grower stuck in the Hill Country.
HELP
Lisa
Well then, why don't you just list your Chiltepin seeds and your Texas Oklhoma blend, and see what happens.
Does the blend say what flower seeds are in it?
It would make me feel better about having a short list. I want to see how common the ones I have are and I've been unable to take my walk to see what's still seeding.
I already have too much on my plate but I have seen a few "must have" natives.
Thanks
Dane
At this time, I think I only have one kind of seed for trade that's a native, so I'm thinking that I'm going to sit out this round. Next year, I should have more seeds since I have more native plants now. :)
AJ how do you make a master list?
Cheryl
Frostweed would make the master list. You would post a list of the seeds you have and Frostweed would create a link to it in the first post of the thread.
Go to this link and look at the first post where is says LINKS TO TRADE LISTS. If you click on any of those links it takes you directly to that persons trade list ( no searching thought the whole thread)
This was the trade list for the fall plant swap earlier this year.
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1120385/
Stephanie and Lisa list whatever you have it doesn't have to be a lot. That one plant may be something someone else wants. I know I would be interested in the Chiltepin.
OK OK I'll do it tomorrow first thing.
Yes Stephanie and Lisa, we want you to stay on Please.
LOL Lisa, this is not meant to be work. Whatever you have is fine and you might find some seeds you want as well.
C
