Beating the Winter Blues & Cabin Fever...how do you do it???

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

hello there

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Your tumblers are wonderful Patti! And Magic Green is beautiful.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Thanks all, I do like the dark clay which is actually a very dark brown, but appears black in some firings. I have been doodling in my head this morning about a garden sculpture using it with a lithium glaze that looks bronze. Now that I can load and fire the kilns as I want, I can plan on building some larger pieces that can be seen among the plants. My ambitions are mostly well beyond my abilities at this point. But fun to dream. A good foil for the winter blues.

I can see a patch of blue sky along with a few SNOW flurries, so I don't know how I am going to plant my last bulbs, but out to try. I don't think it went to below freezing last night, so I should be able to get them into the ground if I can manage the cold. Serves me right for ordering Brent and Becky sale bulbs after T-day. But I got some good ones, especially some expensive Narcissus that I wouldn't buy unless they were on sale. Off to freeze. Patti

Dreaming is what leads to the good stuff. Your clay body probably has a lot of Red Art clay and Iron Oxide.
I am sure you will find a way to layer pieces and put togeter lafter fireing.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Wow, Patti! I love your tumblers! If you're selling at some point, I'm buying!

Your Magic Green is very pretty! That green throat is really unusual. My Christmas Red and Apple Blossom were outside in a low pot, but right now they are resting on the sun porch awaiting a let-up in the freezing temps. Ahhhh, sunny Florida! :)

Morning, ladies....nice to see you are all up and chipper so early!

I'm impressed.....love the glaze on those pieces! When you mentioned a bronze glaze, Patti, my mind went to an archer.....can you do something like that? That would be so cool in a garden.....

Thomaston, CT

If I have to take a boat to get there, I'm sunk!

Bronz bells

You guys are so nice that I am going to start to think I am becoming a potter, rather than a weekend patty-caker. Your ideas are all great. I just have to keep at it to get to a point where I think I could sell a few things to fund this passion. It is great to have a second special activity for me to do, especially in the winter now that I am retired. It keeps me focused and out of the doldrums.

Today we planted the last of the bulbs. It was snowing part of the time, but I had on long johns and a hat so I managed just fine. I tried using gloves, but that didn't work so my hands froze a bit for the 5 hours it took. I think the spring will be special this year. We managed on planting 4510 bulbs, about the same as last year, but less than in previous years. Patti

Remember my oil jar! I'll gladly pay you.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Victor, If I could make a jar that big I would pay myself. Maybe in a year. I still have a nice Jade that I have been growing for you too. Patti

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Might be big enough to fill an oil jar by then! ^_^ Thanks. Just playing.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Victor, It is pretty big already. I will make a nice big pot for it for you and I will get it off island at some point and figure out a way to get it to you. I go to your neck of the woods pretty often. I would love to see your garden, but not sure about seeing you too. Ha. Men in orange suits scare me. Patti

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Hee hee - I have spray paint.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Patty,Think armetures for big pieces. Cardboard and ductape.

Patti - when Victor has his RU in and around his prison cell, you can set up a Pot Stand where we can all go shopping! Sound like a plan, Victor?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Haven't used a pot stand in years! Not allowed here at the prison.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Just Pot? Patti

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

LOL!!!

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Somewhere, somehow, I'm going to succeed in convincing Victor to have an RU! Where better than in his cell? Better yet on visitation day so we can all meet the family!

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

We can all bring orange flowers, juice and traffic cones. Patti

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thomaston, CT

That's OK....we'll enjoy your garden without you....and no Patti's pots for you, either! So there!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i'll bring empty pots and dirt so we can pick out nice stuff for the swap from victors garden

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

My neighbor is trying to sell a nice bright orange backhoe with a front end loader, perhaps I could just borrow it and drive it down for the day and we could do some serious digging while Victor is away. Patti
