10th Annual Photo Contest - Stunning entries - Time to Vote!

Los Angeles, CA(Zone 10a)

Hi All,

I'm in the process of voting for my favorites entries in the 10th annual photo contest, and I just had to let you all know how stunning the entries are! Good luck to all who entered, I am so happy to see all the amazing images.

You can vote between now and next Monday evening (11/15)!

Personally, I'm choosing to vote by viewing thumbnails, as there are SO many entries in each category! Whew, this might take me a bit. (-:

Happy voting!

Okay, I guess I am inept lol,
how exactly do you VOTE? I can see the entries, and save them to a favorites, but I don't see anywhere to actually place a vote on anything?

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

You have two ways you can vote; they are explained above the categories and each option has a link to vote using that method:

Option 1: Full size images. This choice will show you one image at a time, full size, and give you the choice to Save or Skip each image.

Option 2: Thumbnails. This choice will show you all the thumbnails on one page. You may then click on a thumbnail to view it full-size, and then select to Save or Skip each photo you view.

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

I can't speak for what happens if you vote in thumbnail view, but if you vote using the large pictures, once you've been through the whole category and saved or skipped each picture, you'll get a link to view the ones you saved and choose which one you want to have 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.

springfield area, MO(Zone 5b)

ohh, ok. well I didn't save any, so maybe that is why. I will try again!

springfield area, MO(Zone 5b)

Okay well still all I see is this-

[ Make this my favorite | Make this my second favorite | Make this my third favorite | Remove this one ]

So I made the pic my favorite, still no option to actually choose something to vote on. ?

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

You just voted--when you assign something as your first/second/third favorite that's how you vote.

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

Yes, Liz is correct. By assigning your favorites a designation, automatically votes for you. You can rearrange them, and even go back in later and change your mind. The system will only record votes for 3 winning spots, so if you decide to re-do your vote, only the most recent one will count.
You'll see a red 'Yes' in the categories you've completed.

springfield area, MO(Zone 5b)

ah, hah!
I see that now.
I didn't realize that saving something as a favorite IS voting!

(Zone 1)

I just finished voting. It took me two days because it was just so hard to choose three favorites from so many really awesome pictures!

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

I got started in annuals but made the mistake of viewing full size pics. I won't do that next time. LOL. No time to vote then!! lol

Pics are all great so far. I'm really, really impressed.

Ferndale, WA

I'm sorry but this voting process sucks, I will have to live to be 120 to complet all the categories. I entered several pic's but will not vote cause the process is just plain lame duck...Haystack

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

It's taking me a while since I love to ooohhh and aaahhhhhhhhhh over each and every beautiful picture;o)

Ferndale, WA

I was totally exhausted after one Category, and just the time it took me to find out how to vote, was so annoying I wasn't interested any longer...Hay

springfield area, MO(Zone 5b)

I thought it was cumbersome too. I voted without realizing it as first, thinking I was just saving favorites!

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

I have started my voting. It is very time consuming but I enjoy looking at all the photos. Maybe that is something that could be looked at and see if there is a way to improve it. But bottom line, you have to view the photos to be able to pick the ones you like. We so many amzing photographers here on DG!

(Zone 1)

The process of voting was extremely time consuming and frustrating at times but I did manage to view all of the photo's and make my choices. It would be much easier if there were "next" and "back" icon's to click on instead of having to close and open window's each and every time.

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

Viewing thumbnails opens the pic in a new window which you have to close when you're done. If you view full size, once you save or skip a picture it will go to the next picture. At least it does in IE. I haven't tried it in Firefox.

It does take a lot of time but I'm not sure there is a way to streamline the process. Tell people not to enter so many photos? ;o) Having a week to vote lets me do a little here and a little there...

(Zone 1)

I began the process with viewing the full size images but then decided to change to the thumbnail version. It is good that we have a week to vote so we can do one or two categories each day.

Logan Lake, BC(Zone 3a)

My only complaint with the voting system is that when you view full size, which I prefer, that after you have selected your favorites and then want to skip a photo to narrow down the number from which you will chose your top three, it keeps going back to the top so that you have to continually scroll back to where you were, that's what I find time consuming. There must be a way to let you skip a photo and stay where you are in the viewing process.

Is this going to be advertised in the banner on the home page? Nowhere do I see where voting's open, but I do see the link to the survey.

Yep, we should have an alert going up soon to remind everyone to vote between now and Monday.

Hah! I am still voting! I think it might take me all the way up until Monday evening!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I vote on a few categories everyday and spread them out over the duration of the voting.

(Zone 1)

LOL TaliaRose ... I'm retired and could have probably done it in one day but got tired and sidetracked.

That's the way to do it.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Me too!

NE, SD(Zone 4b)

I started voting by way of full size images but due to the number of each category it became time consuming to close each image, I then went to the thumbnail images. I quickly learned the thumbnail image takes so much away from the actual photo image...you don't see the detail nor the vivid color unless you open the image.
I wish there was a slideshow option for full images.

Ferndale, WA

I love the photos, and am grateful for the site's decision to do it, but what the Admin has failed to remember is that so many of the DGers are older folks and I myself can't use the thumbnail as I can't see well enough to decide what I want to enlarge. The process is just to drawn out to be practical. I have always been grateful for not being born a woman, cause the process of having a baby is just way to long for me and I'd have lost interest...LOL...Haystack

Logan Lake, BC(Zone 3a)

I viewed full size images and did not have to close each one, I use Firefox and have AutoPager. First I did a fairly fast run through of skip or save, then went through my favorites and again removed the next least favorites, I used page up or down to skip through them fairly quickly, what took the longest amount of time was deciding on the top three...lol. There are so many great photos to choose from!!!

I'm with you 100% - the photos are gorgeous!

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

Yes, in Firefox if you are viewing the full sized images, by selecting save or skip, the next image automatically loads.

They're all winners!

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

It does the same for me in IE8 - save or skip and it goes from pic to pic in a flash!

Jasper Co., MO(Zone 6b)

Wow! It's 3,187 entries and I did look all the images and I done vote for 2 hours....
