Daily Bird Photos 350

PERTH, Australia

Great birds showcased on the previous thread, which is here if you want to go back. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1134180/

I only have photos from a couple of weeks ago. To begin, a Black-faced Cuckoo Shrike. These birds are also known as "shufflewings" because of the way they fold and re-fold their wings when they land.

From the " Big Swamp" in Bunbury, a large town about 200km south of Perth.

Blue-billed Duck. This is a male in full breeding colour. If anything, the photos don't really do justice to the blue bill.

Another of the Blue-billed Duck. We do see them at our local swamp, but not in the numbers seen a the Big Swamp.

Australian Wood Duck (female). Unfortunately I didn't manage to get any shots of the male which has a more intense feather pattern.

A pair of Australasian Shovelers. The male is the larger bird.

Male Shoveler preening. I hope you'll be able to make out the filters on the side of his bill.

Very common, the Pacific Black Duck. The Black Ducks in Western Australia have maintained their genetic integrity. Unfortunately a great number in the eastern states have interbred with domestic ducks and the purity has been diluted.

Last one from me for now. Australian White Ibis.

Nice fotos, Margaret. Thanks. We don't have anything like these where we live, at least not where I can see them.

What season is it there?

Outstanding shots Margaret! Love all these birds.

Thanks for starting the new thread!

Great shots on the last thread everyone!

PERTH, Australia

Thanks, Pelle.

Thanks, Linny. It's the middle of spring here at present, following our second driest winter on record.

WOW, nice start! Gotta say I loved the last post on the last thread too!

Me too, Mrs Ed. All I have are a couple of crows that have discovered the peanuts I put out for the bluejays. Funny to watch them shove three in their mouths and gulp down all three, shells and all.

great pictures. Margaret I could see the filters when I enlarged the pictures.

I really enjoyed everyone's photos in that last thread. Thanks for the new start Margaret-wow to all your beautiful photos. I just love those shovelers-every time you share their photo I have to laugh. Their heads look too big for their body and I feel so sorry for them.

Dave, great photos of your cute crow, especially the one with three peanuts in its mouth. The one with the bb and finch is adorable-the look on the bb is so sweet.

I have both the House and the Purple Finches here, but I think this is a younger Purple.

I sure was glad to see this female Northern Flicker here. The male was up in the tree above it and seemed to be telling her not to pay attention to my camera.

Here's her mate.

I have a hard time trying to catch their wing colors, but this one was pretty good.

I liked this closeup of the California Thrasher, unfortunately it was in the shade.

Wonderful start to the new thread Margaret!! Lots of great shots on that trip. And the last shot on the previous thread was a very nice capture!
Dave, nice shots!! I,m sure your already rationing the peanuts. The Crow's and Jays seem to wipe them out quick. lol
Duc, nice shots!! Great job with the California Thrasher showing off that bill!
Nice shots GP!! I think a lot of birds this year are a tad late...your lone Indigo is just smarter. ;)
Couple of shots of a White-throated Sparrow.

Cute white throat. But then I think all of the smaller birds fall into that catagory.

Nothing unfortunate here... the dappled light just adds to the exquisiteness...

Thanks,

Look what I found at a local pond yesterday!

The Mandarin is a tiny little duck, and just so striking! I was in awe.

GP, love the proud stance on your female cardinal. I really enjoyed seeing all of your birds.

Burd, that white-throated is such a pretty sparrow.

Tiger, how exciting to see such a beautiful duck-your photo is fantastic!

The goldfinches are such active birds here right now-and they sit still for my camera!

Here's my newest bird that didn't fit any species found in our area-Resin thinks it may be an integrade. I was hoping it was a "Black-back" Lesser Goldfinch, but they're normally found in Texas which is a long distance from where I live in northern California.

I believe, like my other goldfinches, that it's still getting its winter colors so I'm hoping it will get darker.
