I got home with these 2 things. What are they?
#1 (sorry it's blurry)
North Central Texas Fall RU What is this Plant??
Second one looks like coleus, but it's not mine -- I think Planolinda brought that one.
Kate! Did you take your nap?
No, I've been too busy unloading, labeling and potting plants! I am now going to sit down for a while and read a book though. :)
Stephanie, that plant is Drummond's Aster and I brought it, the blooms are white and it blooms in the fall.
i did bring the coleus--house plant in winter--can go out for rest of year-in shade
Thank you, Linda! I already told Mark he'd have to baby it over the winter.
Yes, that is the western ironweed, that blooms in summer.
Thank you!!
Okay. I can't be the only person who has unlabeled/mislabeled/lost the label plants, can I??
I am sure not Stephanie, I bet many people haven't really looked closely yet.
I planted the Gaillardia you gave me today also the Phlox pilosa from Cheryl, as well as the white Obedient plant from Peg, so I am well on my way.
I guess no one is claiming the two yellow milkweed plants?
Josephine.
Yay! I hope the gaillardia do as well for you as they've done for me. I've got babies everywhere, even in the neighbor's yard! LOL
I hope so too, Stephanie I love Gaillardia.
someone gave me a bannana plant--i potted it up so that i can protect it over the winter before planting it more permanantly next spring--will i need to keep it from a frost? should i put it in the garage for the winter to go domant?
sheila--you gave me a long blade like leave from a plant and said to cut it into 2 inch peices and plant--i cut it tonight but i think i should let it cure at the ends is that right?
got my crinium? seeds planted and will grow them in the atrium for now
moved my fig tree into a big pot and will keep it in a protected spot for the winter--frostweed is that good? outside?
Linda -- I planted a fig outside last fall (zone 7). Come spring I didn't think it would every come back -- was told to wait. It did come ---- later! I think it was the last to show it's green. This summer I had great figs. In fact, I'm still getting figs. Wonderful.
I was orginally told to plant them where it would be protected from the north winter winds. I did not do this. And remember our brutal winter? It is tougher than you think. I do believe that this far north they may die back every year, but I can deal with that.
Hope this helps. Brenda
Dennis, that is Ironweed, Vernonia baldwinii, an I gave it to you.

Linda, were you asking if the plant called Frostweed is hardy outside?
if that was the question, yes it is hardy outside.
Ah. Ok. Thanks, Josephine!
Linda plant that Frostweed in a shade or part sun, but definately at the back of the bed. I have to trim them a lot if they aren't. Love that plant and so do the Monarchs! It was too windy today but still wanted to show the height and beauty of this one plant! It gets morning sun. I left the one stem alone after the first trim and of course that 7 foot one is the most popular with the butterflies!
I think this one is one of my oldest Frostweed plants from Josephine!

planolinda, bananas are true tropicals and do not go dormant, you can either keep it warm in a greenhouse, sunroom, etc or I would take it out of the pot and wash out all dirt from the roots and store in the garage dry. If it get real cold in garage you can wrap with newspaper or bubblewrap but keep the roots open and dry. As long as the corm stays hard you are in good shape.
So Ken.....since I did plant mine last spring and winter is approaching should I dig it. If not what is the best way to protect it?
ok--i was really tired last night so my questions were confusing
moved my fig tree into a big pot and will keep it in a protected spot for the winter--frostweed is that good? outside?
i posted the above -if i kneww how i would put it in the rectangle!
anyhow what i meant was to ask frostweed (josephine) about the fig tree! pretty funny when i read it back and it did seem like i was asking about a frostweed plant--but i did get a frost weed plant from sheila a while back and it is doing well and i have been wondering if i should transplant it-
i am excited to read someone say that they got figs so quickly!!
the banana plant will go into the atrium i think
Yes Linda, you are doing the right thing for the fig tree.
If the frostweed plant is in a pot you could plant it outside it is very hardy, and if you want to move it from one place to another that is o.k. too.
No one has claimed the two yellow Asclepias curassavica, Mexican Milkweed.
I guess no one wants it?
Guess what!! the yellow milkweed was from Bananna18 to Perkoschilifarm.
I looked through the lists and found it, so Michael what do you say?
Josephine.
For anyone with bananas, if you want them to get big and produce fruit, digging them up and storing them through the Winter is best. That said, I have had pups emerge in April and and get 10 in. in diameter and 20 ft. high by November. So a 1 year old banana can weigh 150lb and is not easy to carry around. I grow mine in red clay, it's all I have but bananas seem to love it. I have stopped digging mine up because I have tooooo much to do this time of year.
Brenda~If you keep the frostweed in a pot, it will look dead during the winter, but in January/early Feb you'll start seeing new growth. Just be sure to water every once in a while during it's dormant period and it'll be fine.
Hey, thanks for the info on the frostweed -- I had no idea it would get THAT big. I was thinking of planting it under a tree - guess not!
Today was the first day I was able to get some things in the ground. I feel so accomplished. . . and a bit tired.
Yesterday I decided to run a socker hose on an area to prepare it for planting (everything is so dry!) Well, dummy me, I left that hose on all night (full blast). Maybe, just maybe I'll be able to plant in that area in a few days.
Debating on putting in a new bed. I want all my hummingbird/butterfly plants close to be back door so I can enjoy the show while inside. As my dad said, I am glutton for punishment. But! It will look so good. AND! I will enjoy it. Think I have time???
Any hints on how I should indoor the burgs that I brought home. Zone 7 would kill them pretty quickly I think. Help! Big pot? 2 in one pot okay? Allow to go dormat? Do they do that? Like I said, I need some help here. Sure wish I had a greenhouse!
Thanks! Brenda
thanks for help on banana and fig trees
i might have to dig up that frostweed--it is doing well but in a place that i don't want something too big--
kenboy did you give me the banana tree?
Linda, I suppose you know that you can cut it back once or twice a year?
Where is the thread that Kenboy posted the kind of curcumas that were in the bag?
Purple stems=Panama Purple
Variegated leaves=Emperor
Does that help?
no did not know about cutting the frostweed back
today i looked at my potted banana and think it is a canna! did anyone give me a banana?
on a different note--i bought some beautiful tomato plants--about a foot high--one already has small tomatos ---the others have yellow blooms---do you think i will have enough time before a frost to enjoy tomatos? every year i try tomatos and every year i fail! a joke at out house! but i always do the summer ones and get them out kind of late and in the terrible heat
this time i am trying again but fall tomatoes--they look so healthy and i am so hopeful!
I harvested tomatoes in December last year!
Take a picture of the bare root of the plant and post it Linda. The leaves do look a lot alike.
Well I made some progress... I went around the yard inventoried all the plants I have potted up and those that need moved, etc. Wrote down where or who they came from and where they needed planted /moved. I decided this may be the only way I can keep up with names since the dog pulls up my tags! I managed to get about a dozen things in the ground and watered, but at the same time I was potting up volunteer plants!! I just can't throw them away! Maybe Smockette will take them to ETX RU.
My DH had tomatoes on the deck and had me put them out and they almost died. They are setting blooms now. Veggies not my thing.

sheila your organization is to be envied! at least by someone like me who is so excited and quick that things just go into the ground--without a lot of thought about the best spot--oh well--what can i say? doesn't seem like i am about to change--
thank goodness in texas you can always pretend you are going for a more wild and natural look!
thanks stephanie and sheila for tomato plant encouragement!
what is the difference between the roots of the banana and canna?
