Glad you've been planting, Patti....it's tiring, but a good tiring! Have a safe trip, you as well, Victor, & enjoy the foliage! Bill, I gave Purple Ghost to my son, because I didn't like the coloration or shape.....the color improved over the summer, & he has it staked, so maybe the shape will be better as well.......my project today was picking up two huge, & many small branches that came down in the past few days...glad I wasn't standing under the trees......
What are you working on?? Part 2
Wave if you're nearby Patti!
Just off to Chicago for two days for a wedding. Be back on Monday.
Davidsan is the best for large specimens.
I've been stuck indoors due to huge upheaval in kitchen--new cabinets. Boy is it a lot of work packing up all that stuff to get it out of the way, getting cabinets installed, then figuring out where to put everything back, then wait for countertops and plumbing and electrical. It is no fun, and sorely cuts into garden time.

DH is almost finished with the kitchen floor. just needs to do under the stove and frig.
wow that was a lot of work Patti.. can't wait to see it next year!!!
you know we love pictures Sherrie!!!
Everyone is so busy busy
I spent all day planting my new expanded garden, I just have to get some mulch and then I'm done with that.
A few more plants I need to move and others to plant, I have 2 crape myrtles, a butterfly bush and a lilac I need to figure out where I'm putting them
I have a hydrangea I need to move should I do it now or wait for spring???
i have been busy :)
DH is splitting the wood from the cleared area and I am helping to stack it. Not much garden stuff doing here except putting the garden "art", hoses away and today the pots will most likely join them in the shed.
I would plant it now, Jen...you're in a pretty warm zone....
That stump looks like an evil alien...send the photo to Hollywood and make a zillion $$$.
Hey Patti like debi_lu said. Give us a wave from Cornell. We are an hour and a half west.
Wow, some project, Bill....I agree...weird-looking tree stump! My last project will be cutting down the per., but I like to wait until Nov. ...unless it's snowing!
Looks like a good start Bill. What do you have in mind for plantings? That tree stump looks like a lot of the ones DH dug out here. It is amazing how big they can get.
no plantings pat - i'll build another compost bin there - i have kept putting more and more stuff in the one i have that i'll never get to the compost - this way i can fill one all year and let the other one sit for a year and do its thing.
will probably grab some wild burning bush to build a screen for them.
That sounds like a great idea Bill.
How far from the house is your present bin?
Ours is a black plastic box just outside the kitchen door. We have a 2 quart designer thingie under the sink ,when its full we take it to the 'mother-poster' Winters are a drag even to the outside composter.
hi joann you can see it in this photo back to the left - pretty far away
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=8149127
the new on is just deeper and to the left of the old one - will grab some more wild burning bushes to screen them
nice.I love your gatrden lay-out.
thx joann!
this coming week end will be the fun part when i get to put the bins together - the digging and root/stump part is not so much fun! - i do "collect" all the stone large and small just in case a rock wall home shows itself.
I just used the trimming saw to cut low hanging limbs.I wanted to pull back shade over my lilies.
I am so jealous of anyone who can use a chain saw. If I could manage one I would be at it all day.
I dont use a ladder anymore so I have to limit my trimming to the limbs I can reach and the ones that arent too big in diameter.
The stones will find a home that is more aestheticlly pleasing I'm sure.
Come & trim some of my trees, JoAnn! I have some apple trees that are a mess...but I must say, they were full of warblers again today....hope the neighbors don't think I'm looking at them with the binocs.....
What a treat. Bluebirds like apple trees too.
looks like a great place.
Yes, looking good!
I'm working on making a movie with sound for my garden pix.
Cool, can't wait to see it
nice jen - are you going to have any vines going up the fence?
Great job Jen. It will be fun to see the new area come to life next spring won't it. Looks like a nice mix of plants at least the ones I can ID. Looking forward to pics when things are blooming next season.
JoAnn that sounds like a fun project and I am also looking forward to seeing the results if you can post it.
I do have an Autumn Joy clem(2 years old) farther to the left of the pic and then a Rebecca clem that's only a year old, so it's not showing in the pic to the right of the rose. So hopefully that will fill in the fence...I did have a trumpet vine but heard horror stories about planting them near a house so I dug that right out.
a nice green backdrop on the fence would really show off the bed - i think the autumn joy could do that by itself if it is happy in its home - going to look great.
Dont stand on one leg waiting for the movie. The software is diffacult.
I brought up several of my Amaryllis from their deep sleep in the cellar and got them potted up. Now to wait until they bloom, which will be when there is snow on the ground and these will make me very thankful I did this today. Will wake up more of them in about 2 - 3 weeks so I have a good long bloom period. ^_^
DH finished the kitchen floor yesterday!
Yay! Congrats.
