Give you kids a lot of credit to take care of all the plants this way. Guess I have just gotten crotchety in my old age....what lives-lives!

I like to put things in the ground and leave them there, I do have a lot in containers, and will have to bring stuff in, but I'm really trying to limit that. It would help if I quit "acquiring" more plants tho LOL....

And some things I put in the ground and say " I'll give you a good blanket of mulch if we get cold but the rest is up to you " !

Hap, not crotchety, ..... realistic...

Debra, is that the Begonia I sent you in the Spring? If so then it is loving your place. Heck it looks better than mine and that's the truth.

mjs, I will bring in my Firespike plant because I do not want to risk losing it and hopefully I will get a bloom from it next year. I hope you are getting some rain?

Lindenhurst, NY

Wow, you all have some beautiful plants here.
I love tropicals and grow plumeria, tropical hibiscus, bananas, and orchids (among other things).
I love the tropical weather.....what the heck am I doing up north;-( One day i hope to live in a tropical climate.

DeLand/Deleon Spring, FL(Zone 8b)

maureenpm00,
Well it may very well be a case of the "grass"...."" garden"" is greener on the other side of the fence. I very much miss the plants my mother grew in her gardens growing up in Annapolis, Md. There are so many things that we just cannot grow here. There is much to be said for plants that can take a rest thru winter, and bring so much promise is spring. I do love the tropical's, I don't love having to move things around so much as we are "on the edge".
I DO love all the pictures of so many beautiful plants that are presented here tho....just depends on how much effort you are willing or CAN put in to it. And Mother Nature can put a real kink in the works.

Great Debra... wonderful long extended corolla points.. and who s it there that's kept you waiting...
guess that's the hardest part of loosing all my leaves and buds.. is the few that hadn't had a chance to show their ablity yet.. thanks for the support

Hi Gordon, that one is Flamenco. I really liked her last year and then I cut her up and shared her and Kept the stump. That stump grew one shoot and it is almost 10 ft tall.
MJ, I LOVE MY Passion Vine. Lady Margarite? She has the west facing kitchen window right now, and just since I put her up in her winter basket, she has twirled around the curly hook. awwwww.. LOL I just love watching things get happy. I cut up some cuttings of Anthony Parker Salvia for you, and sending you some Splash and Omaha Gold is already rooted.I dug up the Black and Blue to move to the north fence, full sun. It had tubers and is a perennial here.
Gordon, Flamenco curves back with color the second nite..

Debra,
Lady Margaret is one of my favorites. Ours now is spreading 4 feet each direction from the corner of the front garden fence and has at least 75 buds on it. It's a bit chewed looking tho the Gulf Frits love it too ! It will do great for you over the winter and keeps on blooming. If she get's a little too big for her "britches" just cut back a little. They bloom from new growth so that encourages more blooms also.
Ohh, Salvia's....let me know on the postage ! I dug up so Black and Blue here last spring too, and tubers all stuck together about 1/2 the size of a football. It spreads but I don't care the hummers love it ! Remind me in spring I'll send you some S. Purple Majesty, you'll love that one too !
Milk N Honey bud is getting bigger.....but so far it is the one and only...
Gordon, what happend to your buds and leaves ?

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

MJ, you have to go to the brug forum and see his poor garden. I feel so bad for him. I have gone thru that horrible thing myself, but that was before brugs and tropicals.

here is a mother of thousands that came up from a "baby" funny I thought it was a seed I had kiped..I then learned it was an actual plant I plucked from the "Mother" I learn so much here.

These Zinnias are from seed, and this is the first time I have ever grown an expensive zinnia, and I am glad I bought them.

I got hit with a massive amount of hail... lost most every brug leaf... except for a few that were under something..... some buds surived to open.. like peach parfat here... looks like it was eaten by a millon cats.. there was one cute flower.. ripped in 1/2 by the hail.. and days later it opened a 1/2 flower

These are now blooming everywhere, and I am getting a few seeds. I am going to start them earlier this winter, so I can have a huge display in a planter.

Debra,
What is it ?

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Hi MJ, that is mina lobata, this one is called jungle queen. I have three types growing. Only four more brugs out back to get out of the ground, back to work!

Gordon, I just can't believe what poor Brooklyn has gone through this year, weather wise. You have been hit by tornados, hurricanes and now giant hail, good grief, the gods are not happy.

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

Yes... the virgin sacrifices aren't working like they used to.. you wouldn't believe the difficulty in procuring them here ..You're saying for just that reason we were targeted...
OH.. to my way of thinking it's his/her garden to do with... it's a lesson in attachment.. and in making new.. and expectations and why we moved into houses..
if there was somethng I could have done differently.. it's the plight of the farmer.. stark though that might be...

Maybe the weather gods want something more!

LOL Gordon, my spouse is always saying I sound like an old farmer, always complaining about the weather. :-)

The weather here is finally cool enough for the tecomaria capensis to show off.

those orchids don't bite, but they require some knowledge to grow them.
I love that tecomaria capensis, now I have to look it up. gee thanks! LOL
I am so addicted to things I can't have here in Kansas, I need a 12 step program.
