DAILY BIRD PICS VOL. 345

Marlton, NJ

I'll start off this thread with a new bird for me, a Black-bellied Whistling Duck. Seen at the Cape May Point State Park. There were 4 or 5 of them that have been there for about a month.

Really like the Whistling Duck, Pelle.

Gee, I sure missed telling everyone how much I enjoyed their photos in that last thread. Well done everyone!!

We were out on the lake yesterday and went looking for the White Pelicans that are migrating this way. The water wasn't as calm as it usually is, but I managed to get a few photos I could live with.

Here they are as we're approaching some of them.

Nice shots Pelle!! I see the B-b WDucks like to hang around the Mallards...the one that was spotted at Pipe Creek in Aug. was mixed in with the Mallards also. Nice shots of the Warbler's also.

Excellent shots duc!

Sandusky, OH

Very nice shots Duc!! Do the Pelicans feed on your lake while their there?

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Thanks Pelle.
Burd, yes, we watched lots of bait fish jumping all around us. Unfortunately by the time we reached the area they were in, they had stopped grouping up and catching anything.

Here's a shot of one yawning-I think. They seemed full and lazy and let us come up pretty close and even then they just quietly swam away from us and wouldn't even allow me a photo of them in the air.

Nice start pelle!! I always love seeing a duck!!

Love the pelicans too duc!

Columbus, GA(Zone 8a)

Wow, pelletory, except for the mallard, all your birds would have been Lifers for me. Nice shots.
And thanks for starting the new thread.

ducbucln - I really enjoying seeing the group of White Pelicans. Those would be Lifers for me, too. Oh, and the Great Blue Heron - super pic.

I got up this morning and took these pics. The hummers were not scarce. I had 4 at one time.

Here's one.

Some good pics! Pelle, saw some BB ducks near Uvalde, TX this past spring. Only time I've seen them, although they are reported regularly at Red Slough in SE OK.

Hit my 100th bird in CO for the trip with a Red-naped Sapsucker.

A juvie Cedar Waxing along the Yampa. Lots of berries in the mountains this year. The bears should have plenty to eat.

Hack, great job with your hummer photo. You sure weren't kidding when you said you had lots of birds there-they're all cute!

Red, congratulations on your hundredth! Wow, I don't recall seeing that many birds when I lived in Co, but then I lived higher in the mountains. That grosbeak is just beautiful and I love the juvie waxwing. I'm sure enjoying your trip!

Wonderful start Pelle.Congrat on your Black-bellied Whistling Duck.
Duc , good job with your Pelican,Egret and Heron shots, from the not so calm water. You have some very steady hand.
Great assortment of birds, Hack
Red, Good picture of the Evening Grosbeaks. I miss them. I had a female visit this summer, and I was not prepared for her. The feeder was in a cage for the smaller bird, to discourage the Grackles. I've since put out plates of BOSS, in case she returns with friends.

The Goldfinches are multiplying.

Here's an unusual combo. A Grackle and Goldfinch on the same feeder.

Here is one for the books. I was just on the phone to my quail hunting buddy in OK, looking out the fifth-floor window of this resort when I see a grouse fly off a mesa a couple of hundred yards away and fly down into some landscaping here. I tell him I have to go see if I can get a pic of this bird. I expected it would be long gone by the time I got down and out there, but located it sitting in a pine tree.

Dusky Grouse.

Amazing shots Red...I really like the grosbeak & the grouse is really cool!

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Burn, glad you're getting more goldfinches. They're such cute little birds. I sure like that feeder with the grackle and goldfinch. Cute shot with the condos/pigeons.

Red, you're sure catching some amazing photos of the birds. That grouse is beautiful. Great photo of the flicker too!

Caught this female Brewer's Blackbird as the wind hit her feathers.

This was a new one for me-a Forster's Tern.

Thumbnail by ducbucln
Columbus, GA(Zone 8a)

reddirtretiree - nice pic of the juvenile Cedar Waxing I wondered what one would look like.

burn_2007 - about that feeder, the one with Grackle and Goldfinch on it, it sure is pretty. Is it hard to keep it looking so nice?

ducbucln - that pic of the female Brewer's Blackbird, with the wind-blown feathers, is great! AND the juvie Red-tailed Hawk is wonderful, great detail. AND congrats on the Lifer, I've never seen one before, but Forster's Tern is such a pretty bird.
