I just LOVE that kingfisher photo duc. What is that stuff on the branches is it bug webbing? Really cool. Pelican shots really amazing too.
Red, I was really wowed by the waxwing and the grosbeak pics, amazing flicker shot too. I have never seen a flicker on the ground. I don't know how you and Nanny manage that!
Burn, love the goldfinch shots. Can't wait to see them here especially since I have 30 lbs. of thistle seed left over from spring. Hope it's still good.
Hack, good shots of the house finches. My feeder is in the shade, so I never get clear shots like that.
This oriole found my other hummer feeder today. I was glad b/c it's in the sun and it's further away from the window, so I wasn't as worried about scaring the bird away. Unfortunately, my dogs did that. Still got a few photos which is kind of amazing b/c the feeder was spinning around like crazy.
DAILY BIRD PICS VOL. 345
Elphaba, I wouldn't mind an Oriole finding one of my Hummer feeders. Nice shot.
Hack
Thanks Hack. I just checked my bird book and it looks like orioles stay here all winter, so if it sticks around, I'll have the hummer feeders up all winter again this year. I've seen a brilliant adult male too but only in the tree tops in the early morning. He hasn't come to the pond or the feeders.
Holy cow, while I was typing this, the bright female went to the feeder in the photo and two more went to the other feeder right in front of my window. Almost got a picture of two of the together. This is so exciting!
Elphaba, congrats on the oriole at your feeder. That one looks like a juvie and I was wondering which species you have in your area? My last three juvies left here two days ago so now I have to wait until spring before they return and I already miss them.
Nanny, congrats on your nest too! That just means we'll be seeing more baby photos from you-great! That cardinal is a handsome guy! Will they stay through winter? They always look pretty in the snow pictures.
Wow !!! Some really nice shots on this thread.
Pelle, I like your Black-bellied Whistling Ducks. I never got to see the small flock that was in the Baltimore area not too long ago.
Duc, what can I say ! Excellent shots of a number of species. I particularly like your White Pelican photos. Also, the Red-tailed Hawk, Belted Kingfisher, and, and ..........
Hack, you are sure kept busy with your backyard birds. Like your hummingbird photos. My hummingbirds have all headed your way.
Red, congratulations on your success in Colorado. Great photographs of birds that I seldom, if ever, see. Good to see an Evening Grosbeak which I haven't seen in 25 years. I used to see them quite often.
Burn, I like your pigeon condo photo.
Elphaba, love your Oriole photos. You are so lucky to have them come to your feeder.
Nanny, that is strange with the nesting Catbird. I still see and hear a few around my area.
tigerlily, nice shot of the Black-throated Gray Warbler. I've never seem one .....
I'll just throw in a collage/composite of seven recently shot photographs of the 'Great Egret' rather than bore you with separate photographs. I've taken so many photos recently of the "same things". When is enough, enough ?
Usually this little guy is about half hidden behind a rock, leaf or something. It's rare to see him clearly.
I wish the other camera was working properly. (Canon T1i, cannot get a sharp focus) This one leaves so much noise, hates light, and there's no way to adjust the ISO.
The photo contributions here are incredible! Keep snapping, folks!
Beautiful pics Tigerlily!
Very nice collage Linth. When I first saw it, I thought it was the most perfect flying flock picture ever!
Duc, thanks for the heads up that I'd forgotten the species -- Baltimore, and thanks too for the tip about taking the flowers off the feeder so the orioles can feed too.
Nanny, once again you are hogging the birds! Just kidding but I do usually have gray catbirds in the beautyberry and this year -- none. Looks like that one is suffering from empty nest syndrome and is coping by hanging out in the kids rooms.
Duc, yes we have cardinals year round here.
Tiger...both your little birds are so cute!
Elphaba...LOL at the kids room!! :)
There was a wonderful variety of birds on the last thread, which went by so quickly that I didn't get a chance to comment, let alone post. Thanks for the new one, Pelle. How fortunate you are to be within easy travelling distance of Cape May. I love the Whistling Ducks and that Common Yellowthroat is so sweet.
Duc, how you can get shots like you do from a moving kayak is beyond me. Whenever I try, I end up going round in circles. The one of the Egret in flight is fantastic! And back on land, the one of the Brewers female being hit by a puff of wind is beautiful, as is the one of the Red-tailed in flight.
Hack, nice shots. Even the thumbnail of the Doves and Cardinals on your lawn is intriguing.
Nice shots, red. That's the first time I'm seen an image of a juvenile Waxwing.
Burn, you should think of entering the photo of the pigeons in the windows in a competition. Great shot.
Beautiful shots of your Oriole, Elphaba.
Nanny, that is a scrappy looking nest, isn't it? I hope it's successful, considering the lateness of the season.
Linth, beautiful composite. Never is enough enough.
Tiger, cute birds. Your pond looks perfect for little bird. Shallow water and lots of things to grab onto.
Rainbow Lorikeets in a tree on the verge where I park to go to the Osprey nest.
Margaret, you are so lucky to be able to see those "flying rainbows".
GP, I'd gladly trade you for your beautiful Buntings.
Done, Resin.
This thread has a bit of everything...very nice collection of shots everyone!!
From a wildlife refuge on the other side of the river, a couple of new ones for me. The three middle birds are, I believe, Bar-tailed Godwits and I think the one at the far right is a Curlew Sandpiper. I've no idea what the one on the far left is. I'll go better prepared next time and hope to get some better shots.
Cute.
Definitely a a lot of variety here. Great shots everyone!
Tiger, I like that Black-throated Gray Warbler!
Mrs. Ed, that hammock shot is priceless! It never occurred to me to make everything in the backyard a bird feeder.
Margaret, LOVE those lorikeets -- so pretty. Congrats on the new birds too.
Amazing hummer shots here and on the hummer thread thebestmissy.
I had a Black and White Warbler this morning. Pictures are awful though. Want to see the best one? OK, but it doesn't have a face.
Tigerlily, your little warbler is adorable in the bath water. I've never seen a nuthatch in the water-great job!
Linth, I never get tired of seeing your beautiful photos and the egrets are no exception. Great job putting them all together.
Elphaba, hope the orioles are still there. Cute black and white warbler, even if it doesn't have a head!
Nanny, I'm ready for the snow and those cardinals.
Margaret your Lorikeets don't even look real. They're so colorful and cheerful, what a delight for you to see them. LOL on the grouch! Think I have a distant cousin here-my towhee below. Congratulations on the new birds.
Missy, glad you're enjoying the hummers. Cute doves too.
Mrs Ed, lol on your hammock nuthatch!
This is California's cousin to Margaret's Oscar the Grouch-a California Towhee.
I'm enjoying all the great interesting shots here. It not hard to see that migration has started. Congrats to those with the new sighting. And thanks to the one, who've commented on my shots.
Hack, thanks, the feeder isn't that hard to clean. I have a small brush with a handle, and a sprayer, that I use.
I still have a few Grackles around.
Duc, that towhee is hilarious. Great capture.
Nanny, Oh Great Queen of the Warblers, that looks like a Black-throated Green Warbler to me.
Lilylove, love those red-headed woodpeckers!
Most of the day was very dark although no rain. I live in a dry zone. All of Houston can get rain and my neighborhood will be bone dry. Only got one pic before the clouds took over of a Baltimore Oriole.
Awww, I'm longing to have my Baltimore Orioles return for the season, Elphaba. Nice one. Duc, your Western Towhee is offly cute. Nan, I haven't spotted many warblers here. I agreed with the fact that birds are busy migrating. I don't see the usuals at the feeder lately. And occassional passing through migrants.
Here is a Great Blue Heron several weeks ago.
