2010 Ruby-throated Hummingbirds Vol. 8

Anyone ever hear of using a denture cleaning tablet to clean the inside of a feeder. My DW read an article about this practice.

I would have to see the ingredients before considering denture tablets. I have bought them before for cleaning glass vases.

This might be my last sighting of this little hummer. Didn't see it today.

Isn't that one of those Red-bellied Hummingbirds? Love the way the red reflects off the feeder.

Just wanted to check back in. Thanks for the link and it was a false alarm. They're back and very, very active here at my feeders. I guess I have some more time to enjoy their antics.

awww....burn that is so sweet. I do hate to see them go....it is nice to heve threir return to look forward to in the spring.

Nice shots nanny! Well its 10 days past when I expected the hummers to be gone...still here...even seen a few at the marsh today.

Yay...glad you still have some! I am seeing them alot while out walking too.

Was able to get 2 different birds out front the other day....bird #1

Then in flew bird #2...

and then I lost track...lol!

Seen one on my rose bush this morning.

I think migration has started for sure. This last week I've seen a huge increase in the volume of hummers around my yard. We had one resident male all summer who guarded the yard viciously, I on;y ever saw one other male try to enter and occasionally he's let a female eat for a few minutes. Now we have at least 5 males and a 2 or 3 females all feeding at the same time... well at least for a few minutes until one of the males (I assume it's "my" male) starts getting mad and tries to chase them away. There's so many right now though, he just can't keep em all away LOL. I am having to refill my large feeder every day, as they are draining it usually by 2 or 3 in the afternoon. It used to last me 4 or 5 days. Good thing I have lots of hummingbird friendly flowers too, cuz I just can't keep up!

A little slow here the past couple of days. I've put the bird cam up to try and catch some. .

Sorting thru photos today...this is from back on 9-1. Only have mature males passing thru now.

I am going to start a new thread for us. Will be right back!
