Anyone ever hear of using a denture cleaning tablet to clean the inside of a feeder. My DW read an article about this practice.

2010 Ruby-throated Hummingbirds Vol. 8
I would have to see the ingredients before considering denture tablets. I have bought them before for cleaning glass vases.

Thanks. In my research I have also discovered to some have used vinegar and even bleach diluted to 1/4 cup per gallon of water.
All the sites said to rinse thoroughly before putting in the sugar water, be it denture tabs, vinegar or bleach.

Isn't that one of those Red-bellied Hummingbirds? Love the way the red reflects off the feeder.
Just wanted to check back in. Thanks for the link and it was a false alarm. They're back and very, very active here at my feeders. I guess I have some more time to enjoy their antics.
Mine are still being evasive! stinkers!
oh congrats!
Seen one on my rose bush this morning.
I think migration has started for sure. This last week I've seen a huge increase in the volume of hummers around my yard. We had one resident male all summer who guarded the yard viciously, I on;y ever saw one other male try to enter and occasionally he's let a female eat for a few minutes. Now we have at least 5 males and a 2 or 3 females all feeding at the same time... well at least for a few minutes until one of the males (I assume it's "my" male) starts getting mad and tries to chase them away. There's so many right now though, he just can't keep em all away LOL. I am having to refill my large feeder every day, as they are draining it usually by 2 or 3 in the afternoon. It used to last me 4 or 5 days. Good thing I have lots of hummingbird friendly flowers too, cuz I just can't keep up!
They absolutely love the red bee balm http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/55390/
I highly recommend it for attracting hummers
I'm headed off to Hummerfest in Rockport, TX, tomorrow. Is anyone else attending?
oh congrats!
Just checked, still a got a couple...odd the previous 2 years you couldn't find one after the 2nd (up here)...but I'll take it. lol
A little slow here the past couple of days. I've put the bird cam up to try and catch some. .
I am going to start a new thread for us. Will be right back!
Let's finish this season out with a bang everyone!!
