2010 Ruby-throated Hummingbirds Vol. 8

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Rose, I swear with every post you top yourself! Great series!

Nice one of your male pelle!

Beautiful burn!

I have only seen 1 praying mantis this summer but I do keep watch and try to keep spider webs cleared away from the feeders too. I know that was awful fro you to see Rose.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Oh Rose, so sorry to hear about the mantis. Cripes, it's always something isn't it. Why can't they just go eat the bad bugs like they are supposed to!

Lovely series in the water though! Nice "tinkle" action shot!

Love the color combinations in your photo burn.

Pell, congrats on the Mature Male!

I'm still getting some, but the same old pix only from the bird camera. I did change the angle today though! lol.

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Thank you all for your comments and sympathy...you guys are great!

Burn...I really love that shot with the fuchia...it is just gorgeous and the colors are wonderful!

I took these shots a few weeks ago and finally got around to editing. I have several Purple Hyacinth Bean vines planted around the house and the Hummers spend a lot of time on them.

This little female staked her claim and chased off anyone who approached.

Last one...note the flowers are in focus but the bird isn't...LOL...not!!

Love the booty shot!

I love my purple hyacinth beans, but I didn't plant enough of them and I don't think they are getting enough sun!

Here's the new angle for the birdcam. They are such cuties, I need to spend some time outside with the big camera this weekend.

Dellrose, those shots are beautiful! That first shot is so nice with the flowers and hummer. Its perfect!

Nice shot Mrs_Ed! Yes get the big-rig out... its supposed to be really nice this weekend.

Well the 2nd of Sept. has come and gone and the hummer's were still hanging out and chasing like normal.
Got a couple of the adult male, he was definitely on the clock today.

man, oh man, you guys have posted some fantastic shots.

Burd, good job on the in-flight shots. AND I liked the "king" shot.

Mrs_Ed, your bird cam is doing pretty good. I seems to have more resolution than my deer cams. May have to make a purchase

rose - nice shot of the hummer fluffing its feathers and lift up its head.

pelle - I liked the capture of the mature male Hummer, even if it was low light - nice.

burn - I have been seeing fewer hummers that a while back. I think your pic from 3 days ago was nice.

Hack

Columbus, GA(Zone 8a)

Here's one I got from a few days ago, too.

Nice one Hack!

I'm surprised I got anything on the camera today because it was so windy and overcast. But here's a little one on the Desert Sunrise Agastache. They LOVE this plant.

Very nice shot Hack!
Mrs_Ed, hopefully the wind will let up some tomm. nice shot!
Nice shot nanny!
Well I seen my hummers at about 11am this morning...did some errands, then watched for a 1/2 hour before going to work and did not see a one...even checked their favorite spots...will report on tomorrows attendance in the evening.

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

Beautiful shots everyone! I love the pics where you captured the wings or the feet.

Dellrose, I'm sure you found the pics that disappeared on your computer right? I've had that happen before. They were very hard to find but they were there. I did a *.jpg search for the day that I imported them. Then it turned out that to get it back into my photo software I just had to import it from the same file to the same file. I know that doesn't make sense but it worked.

I agree with Pelle that getting those male pics is a trial. Actually this is the first year that I've had a lot of males come through, but I hung my feeders earlier. I didn't know that they started migraging in late July.

Then if you get a pic of male, it's so hard to get that throat a glowin'!

Nice shots Elphaba!
Well my adult male left on the 3rd...no sign of him at all today..including early this morning. A female has taken over the feeder and there were about 3 or 4 others sneaking in for a drink.

No adult male sighted here since friday the 3rd....all females & juvies now.

Beautiful photos of such exquisite birds. It must be a strange time of year for all of you to have these tiny little darlings heading off on a journey of thousands of miles. I recall when I first joined DG someone (probably Pelle) posted links to images taken along the migration route, including those of birds huddled on ledges of light houses and remote stations in the middle of the ocean. Amazing stuff.

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

Sweet shot Nanny.
Burd those are great.

I have all females and maybe a few juvi males now too. I didn't know that males migrated first. They're probably afraid of the females. Is it my imagination or do the females seem more aggressive?

Thumbnail by Elphaba
Marlton, NJ

Great shots Nanny and Elph!

At this location mature males are the most aggressive although the females can definitely handle themselves. :-)

Sandusky, OH

Nice shots nanny and Elphaba! Female's and juveniles still here...89f tomorrow... cooler temps after that. Keeping an eye out.

Macon County, IL(Zone 5b)

Oops, I missed a thread change! Too much going on, but still keeping an eye out for my little friends. There are still a few here, although hard to count with feeder locations. Still had an adult male this AM. It's looking like they are fattening up for the flight, I saw one female that was solid! Haven't had time for good pictures, but thanks everyone for sharing such good ones! I loved the rear views from dellrose, closeups from Burd, flashes of ruby throat from pelletory and the flower shots from Mrs. Ed and burn.

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

I've only seen the female today, and she didn't want her picture taken. this is from a few weeks ago.

Nice one burn!

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Glad to see everyones pics..love the action and floral shots! It looks like they are heading south. We seem to have lots of them throughout the day but I think they are in eat and run mode. The nectar is lasting lots longer.

Doesn't it seem like they just arrive?

Here are some shots from the past few days...mature male.

Whoa. That's interesting. Opera singer or in need of a dentist?

I have two here this morning and they are not getting along. The good news is that it looks like one found the feeder in the front window. I have that there not only for enjoyment but so they can all get some water.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

BIg excitement here today as a juvie male has discovered my window feeder. I bet he likes it because it's very windy out today and the other feeders are blowing around!

Thumbnail by Mrs_Ed
The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

I think he was stretching his beak...! Glad you are getting the Hummers now Mrs. Ed...enjoy!! Cute window shot!!

Thought you might enjoy see some group photos from a few days ago. The seem to go nuts in the late afternoon!
