Emma’s Texas Asagao Plantation 2010 #1
Emma,
I would love to have such beauties in my garden.... a girl can dream, can't she? LOL!
It is officially "Spring" in the Southern Hemisphere - my seeds are in the ground, and the waiting begins...
Beautiful! Someday, I will have to try my hand at crossing things on purpose, it can't be any different than doing it with the 4 o clocks.. on the other hand, I think you have to spend alot of time doing that.. right?
I am not very good at keeping track of things.. I am glad you get such cool blooms.
Thanks Debra,
Actually *Crossing* is very easy. It only takes a lot of time when you do waaay too many as I do. I keep up with my MGs on a Master List that I have set up on my computer, and every single vine has an ID number . . . Makes it much easier.
Growing only a few MGs each year, you have more time to concentrate on them with your crossing, however, you will need to plan ahead at what you might like to cross so you will have those MGs growing.
You can do it!
Emma, thank you so much! I will have to get some compost into the remaining beds.
Elsa
Great blooms and some good info, thanks Emma.
Hi Jon,
You are very welcome and glad I was able to share someting useful with you ♥ ♥ ♥
Anytime!
Emma, how do you decide what to cross with what? ( Just curious) How do you know what can take a cross , I guess that is what I mean..
Hi Debra,
I usually decide the day before what my main crosses will be, which is why I get such an early start outide in the mornings. Then, I continue to do some cross-pollinating throughout the morning even though some of the blooms may not have been pre-closed off. If I have something really special and do self-pollinating on those blooms, I take that pollen and cross it to 'what ever', just like the bees . . . lol
Actually, what I do is imagine what features from two blooms will look like combined into one. I've come up with some great stuff over the years and am happy that so many are still enjoying some of my crosses such as
Mauve Splash
Plum Shadows
Gray Morning Mist
Gray Haze
George Strait
Cocoa Chocolate
Even President Bush 'Pink Form' that I got in a Silver Blizzard; and a Very Pale Blue Blizzard - that reverted to a Solid Pink Picotee and Pink Blizzard
That is a very small dint in the list, but are among many of my favorites
I have done SO many crosses that even I don't have my master up-dated completely this year yet. Plus, hundreds that I have the *Crossed* seed pods for and haven't grown out yet. Many I did grow this year which was only a small dint in what I still have to grow out. Maybe a 'football field' for a year or two would help with some of my grow-outs . . . lol
Here is one of my newer crosses that I'm currently working on. Still haven't decided on a name yet. I'll wait until next year to see if they continue to remain true.

I love them all Emma you have a very green thumb.
I only dream of doing a fraction of all that you have done.
I will try my hand at crossing some next year you have inspired me.
I would love to get some of the beauties you've gotten.
Really love them all.
Thank you Robbie,
. . . and especially Thank you for your wonderful compliment . . .
This is the reason I haven't sent your seeds yet, I'm still waiting on seed pods from some that I thought you might enjoy.
Thank You Emma i know i will love any seeds you send me all your blooms are beautiful.
Thank you Robbie and mittsy -
mittsy what is it about your MG, Bluish-Purple Flaked Shibori, that is SO wonderful. That is still one of my very favorites.
Great Mailbox. I'm sure your postman enjoys delivering your mail each day
Emma - Your bloom crosses are beautiful!
You may know that I am doing another annual MG seed swap. Perhaps you would like to join our swap or donate seeds for the participants. Last year, gardener2005 and Dany12 donated seeds for all the participants. I am sure everyone would love to help you out by growing out some of your new crosses to see if the F2s come true.
Well, I think I will leave the crossing to you and dany and becky and all.. I will just let the bees do it for me, as I have a ton of them. I love what you do, and hope to grow some of those out for you. That #225 is awesome! Maybe this winter with the vines that are just starting I can "experiment" with more time and Beckys paint brush she sent me. I tried crossing the giant white with the purple flaked earlier this summer. I didn't get any seed pods. I think I do not know what I am doing.
I can cross a 4 o clock.. they are easy.
Mittsy, I am so kacited, the planter with "Mittsys Mail box" is vining.
Here, this is not ordinary flowers for sure!
I love the number 241 - not posted already but sublime.
Emma now you are at harvest time, I suggest you put a glass for Dany in the corner of your office where you can put the seeds NOID.We all have memory loss - these seeds I've taken on which cultivar?
Question:
For you,Silver Wolf is a real gray or gray blue?
Jerry is he is 100% in your hobby hybridizations too?
Debra, crossing four o'clock I agree but it is much more difficult to put a tag.A lot of flowers appear in the same place.
Thanks Emma, our mail lady loves our mailbox. She is always ready to take my "extras"
Thanks Debra -
Experimenting is good. At least this will give you a feel for it.
Dany -
Too much fun!
I will do that for you if you will do that for me ???
I am seeing my Silver Wolf as both 'Real Gray' AND a 'Purplish Gray'
There are 2 vines in the same pot and no way to tell if they are from the same vines or not.
