I am driving down in the Hill Country this next week and hope to see some bfs. But I will be with my Sister who isn't really an outdoor person so doubt I see too many! LOL!
DAILY BUTTERFLY PICS Page 81
UUUUGH, no offense to your sister, but that would be torture to me...........I hope you have a "recoverable" weekend !
I have a D'DIL that drive'a me crazy, as she is very much a "Barbie Doll"............errrrrr, got my grandson so whipped that he doesn't even like to go outside and get his toes dirty !
Well surprise, surprise! I talked my sister into doing the zip line at Marble Falls with me!!! May be hope for her yet....LOL! Our DHs are jealous for sure. We may have to go back someday and do it with them.
Well, I truly hope you have FUN !!!!! Goodness knows we all need that once in a while !
At 63 I guess you could say it is an item on my bucket list!
That sounds like a blast, Sheila. I'm hoping to head down to the Texas Hill Country this coming week as well -- a quick one day trip to a native plant nursery in Kerrville. It's a small little nursery but they've got some unusual plants...and lots of spicebush, which I use to raise Spicebush Swallowtails. Had a female in the yard last week, an uncommon visitor to Dallas County, as they are usually further east. Got some eggs and now need to stock up on some host plant.

We have one Spicebush at the Fielder house garden and we are hoping they will show up over there for us too, who knows? it could happen, right?
Especially if Dale is raising them.....he just might have some escapees that venture our way!
I might have to check into the nursery before heading home. Is it the one on Medina Hwy or Jefferson St that are listed in Go Gardening?
Oh Shelia, you are so funny. I"m thinking that you were going to say that your sister agreed to butterfly watch and instead you say you are ziplining!!!
Well, all things are possible, but I wouldn't count on it. Best to plant for what is probable in the area....but you never know. A stray could make it over there. Mine will be used for breeding stock for next years business. As a kid I used to find Spicebush Swallowtails in Dallas much more common -- several every year, but now they are quite uncommon....and even more so the further west you go.
The nursery I'll be going to is Natives of Texas on Medina Hwy, I think. Great little nursery. Maybe I'll see you there, Sheila! Wouldn't that be a hoot.

Well, you can always hope and be prepared just in case.
I wish I could go to that nursery too, and I hope the two of you run into each other over there.
Sheila, if they have Aristolochia tomemtosa would you pick up one for me? I have a small one at home but I need one for the fielder garden, I will pay you later.
Great pictures and so much variety!!!
Wow, look at that stout!
Wow! 103! that is a lot of butterflies, Congratulations Dale!!!
WOW that's a LOT of butterflies. I haven't seen any checkerspots this year,,,yet.
Whoops! My mistake. Just checked my list -- species #102. I'm just getting ahead of myself a bit....

haha. Well that's still great. I think mine is around 16 or so. :(
that is amazing, my list has 20
I'll take a stab. Meadow Fritillary.
http://www.butterfliesandmoths.org/species?l=1694
It's not listed for Bureau County, but 3/4's of what I have in the yard isn't listed for Bureau County.
Yep, Meadow Fritillary. Yah, that BAMO site is not dependable as much as one would hope. They didn't even list Monarchs in our area. well I won't go into that again…
those little Meadow Frits are one of my favorites this year.
My favorites are the one that I'm taking a picture of! ...lol...
Isn't that true. I think all of us would agree.
I adore them all, but the MFs are new to the garden this year, so I enjoy their presence and behavior.
nice shots j!
I am off in the hill country this weekend with my sister and she is more in to shopping than gardening etc. Not seeing many bfs in the stores, LOL! We did do a zip line yesterday near Marble Falls and I saw TSTs and Pipevine. I noticed a few Monarchs or Queens on my way down. My DH is stuck with the dogs at home, probably seeing more bfs than me!
Oh, enjoy!!
Thanks .,....it has been a blast so far.
You are such a wild woman Sheila!!!! ha ha ha
