Sunflowers are host plants, but like Josephine, I haven't ever seen the cats. Mine is usually full of aphids, ants, and leafhoppers.
DAILY BUTTERFLY PICS Page 81
Never see anything on them but big holes. And of course, birds eating the seeds.
It was pleasant outside today but a bit windy. I went out front with the camera when DH told me he spotted a BST, but it was a GST that wouldn't stop for pictures.....
But in the backyard I finally got this one on the penta.
Nice Blue Terry....Marna I love those flowers! Great shots too.

DH alerted me to another black bf out front so I caught this one on the rather tattered phlox. They have bloomed non-stop for two months or more.
I found this dark form Tiger ST. I took a lot of shots since the wind had picked up not knowing if I would get a clear one. In this shot the wind had blown it over on it's side.
Those are great pictures Sheila, our Phlox at the fielder garden started blooming early June and it is still going, it is amazing.
Thanks Josephine! Can't believe it does so well being in the full TX heat we have had this summer. But the water bills do show how! LOL!
Welcome to you Dee....Lovely picture for sure. Hope you will post again, glad you joined in. I see you aren't new to DG.
Both great shots but really love the first one!
Nice catch Jack and Dee (welcome)
Shelia, I'm so jealous of you border patch and Giant Swallowtail. I haven't had a Giant in the yard since 2008!
Thank goodness for those tithonias, I tell you!!! My garden is a mess this year and they are the only thing drawing in the butterflies. I probably say this every time I post! LOL. much needed rain is supposed to be here today, so probably no pix.
The GSTs and Tigers have been very prolific down this way this year. This is my first year of seeing the dark form though.
I am pretty concerned about the Monarchs this year.....anyone have a lot up there??
Very nice shots!!
I have been very surprised at the number of EST here this year...don't recall ever seeing this many! I have only seen 1 GST this year which is a little unusual.
We are hoping for rain too this week....We only have had less than a half inch the month of August. I have done minimal watering. Just enouhg to keep things alive, since we are on a well.
Well, I have managed to confuse myself again(not that it takes much!)so I am not sure which this is! lol
Maybe a Spicebush.....

Super Shot Dee !
What's the plant? Hummer sure seems to think that's a great place to perch.
Yay Nanny.
DJ, looks like it was probably a monarch.
Shelia, I do not have the good numbers of monarchs I had last year, but it has not been terrible either. Let's hope the Texas population has lots of success!
Beautiful both of you!
Quiet here too, but my one and only Black Swallowtail was successfully released today.
Beautiful!!
Rainy this morning, windy all day. I went out with my pups after their breakfast, and finally. I've been visited by these little buggers as of late, but either I don't have my camera or I run to get said camera and they're gone by the time I return. I usually have these guys all summer long, but for some reason, not this year. Finally today, this one stayed around long enough, and hung on long enough, for me to get some pictures.
Here s/he is, hanging on for dear life on my Cephalanthus occidentalis (buttonbush).
Finally, tired of being whipped around on the darn Cephalanthus occidentalis, s/he finally swooped around and landed in the middle of my mini prairie. It has recently had a lot of Silphium perfoliatum (cupplant) removed, then the rain flopped over the Rudbeckia triloba (brown eyed susan), so in the middle is a nice low spot to land. I think it's on Helianthus silphioides (rosinweed), but I planted so many different Helianthus, I'm not sure which is which!
oh that's beautiful Jack!
Nice Terry! I haven' thad very many Tigers this year. That's a male (no blue on it).
Congrats on the rain too, i know we needed it.
terryr,
Nice Tiger, they are just "one" of my favorites.........and the more beautiful pic's we have of them the better in my book !

Love those pipevine Dale....hopefully I will get the fimbriata growing more by next year. I had a female trolling but couldn't find my wee little plants. Glad she didn't the way the cats eat.
Pretty little Blue, congrats on capturing the moment.
Nice TSTs, got to love them.
We had the front door open enjoying the sunshine when it came out after the rain today. I caught site of a sulphur so got the camera. It was hungry after the rain I guess, didn't pay much attention to me. It was very busy on the Black & Blue Salvia or what's left after the heat wave. I got several good shots I think.
Male, Cloudless Sulphur (Phoebis sennae) Dale?
Yes, indeed, Sheila. I've had quite the explosion of Cloudless Sulphurs here in the past couple of weeks. Always two or three (or five) flitting around the yard. I keep hoping for Orange-Barred or White Angled Sulphur, but so far only Cloudless. Had a Large Orange Sulphur in the yard earlier in the week.

I thought it was a he, but I'm usually wrong.
Mrs_Ed, do you know if we have Spicebush Swallowtails around this area? I have 5 spicebush planted for them, and my husband and I thought we saw 2 of them. They didn't look like Black Swallowtails, they looked like Spicebush Swallowtails. They were another that by the time I got the camera they were gone.
I'm not sure Terry, the BOMA sites show it skirting our area… Kauffmans also shows us on the edge. So it could be. If they were laying eggs, then for sure they are!
Thanks Dale.
