A juvenile Laughing Gull... Assateague Beach
Poor little guy tried so hard to get one of the parents to feed him, but they paid him no mind!

Pretty sure this is a juvenile Little Blue Heron... I watched it for a long time, and don't think it looked like a snowy or great egret.

Wonderful pics VA! Looks like you had a very productive trip.

HMM, Sweet Hummers!

GP, Glad you were able to see the Pileated. Their gorgeous!

Duc, Love the Oriole!

Nanny, Cute Hairy Woodpecker!

Oquawka, IL(Zone 5a)

Seems to be a feeding frenzy going on around the grape jelly! May be leaving soon. :-(

Hope I see some Orioles this winter. The number of birds here is increasing every day. Sitting outside this morning I saw loose flocks of these headed North to South. I suspect they are Barn Swallows.

GP, you are sooo lucky to have captured that Pileated on the pole. Great pictures. That picture of the wp right above you is adorable and that last cardinal is a beauty!

Miss Mary, congratulations on the new hummer!

Iris, sorry about the grackles. Hope they move on for you.

Wild Rose, that first egret photo is just awesome. Love all that green around it. Your juvie Night Crowned is adorable! Nice one of the pelican too. What a great day for all your pretty pictures.

Not fair Rose 1656, my orioles won't touch the jelly. I just read the orioles prepare for their migration 2-3 weeks ahead of time-bet that's what yours are doing too.

My Brewer's Blackbirds look so pretty just as the sun comes up in the morning. I had to really lighten this one up, but he sure looked handsome to me.

The younger crows were a little upset yesterday when I started mixing sunflower seeds with the chopped peanuts (prices of nuts has gone up lots). I could just read their minds when they saw the mixture and wondered what was going on. They just sat on the side of the box for a while and then looked at me through the window.

One of the Bald Eagles flew by yesterday and the day before, but they're flying farther out over the lake these days rather than along the shoreline.

Geez...you all have been busy today!

GP...you sure are getting a great variety of birds. The Pileated visited us today too so I know how excited you were with your three!
Wild Rose...beautiful shots and what a fabulous place to visit!
Iris...The Grackles just showed up at our house...we'll see how it goes.
Miss Mary...Cute little Hummer!
Rose...I am jealous of all those Orioles...we only had one male Orchard this summer.
Nanny...Your Hairy is lovely, ours has been missing all summer...boo!
Duc...As always, beautiful birds and I agree that Brewers is extra handsome!

Here is the Pileated that landed in the dead tree this morning...long distance shot!

This Quaker Parrot visited today. It acted more like a pet than a wild one.

Such a great variety, everyone and great great shots.

Here's what's happening around here.
The number of Purple finches have increased again. And the Goldfinch are increasing too. I had
three Hairy WP in the yard the other day. A Downy WP came after a long absent. And the Starlings are flying around in groups, but not in my yard yet so far.
Autumn is starting to make it's presence known. We have a few trees changing colors already. Talk of frost has been mention for certain area. So for sure the Summer birds are making their way down South.

Downy Woodpecker.

Oh man what a great variety of birds. I like them all. Dellrose I like that Pee Wee shot. I've never seen one of them before. Here's a couple of shots of the the Male Hooded Warbler. These are the best I could muster shooting through foliage; he would not give me anything better.

I THINK this is a female blue-gray gnatcatcher. Slender little bird, smaller than a chickadee. Carries herself very much like a Carolina wren. Stayed around for several minutes and I got several pretty good shots. Can someone confirm the ID, or tell me what it is if I have it wrong. Thanks.

Peterson says it suggests a minature mockingbird. Well, maybe just a little.

I caught a male at the feeder today. At least I think it's a male. The female I posted a picture of a couple of days ago didn't have the dark streaking on her neck like this one.

Very nice shots everyone!!

You are correct, a female...the male has a dark streak kind of like a "uni-brow?" on the head.

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7a)

HMM... another nice hummer, but she too is a female! The male will have a dark red throat and the green along his back will be darker in color.

Dave... that gnatcatcher is really a pretty bird. Congrats on the new visitor!

Memphis, TN

Thank you for the correction on that -- perhaps I'll see a male before they all head out for the winter. At least I think I'll be able to tell the difference now!

Marlton, NJ

VA, I think that is an immature male hummingbird with the dark spots on the throat. They will soon turn over to be the red throat feathers. Maybe someone else will chime in. :-)

Outstanding shots everyone!!

Rose, Love the Pileated !

GP, Good one of the Quaker!

Burn, Cute Downy!

Met, Love the Hooded Warbler!

Dave, Excellent shots of the Gnatcatcher!

Couldn't get a good one of the Red-tailed Hawk when it suddenly appeared.

Rose, that is one beautiful photo of the Pileated!!

GP, great shot of your parrot. They sure are pretty birds.

Burn love your little wp too. Sorry to hear those leaves are already changing colors though. I'm not ready for the new season to end.

Met, that warbler is just gorgeous.

Dave, awesome photos of that gnatcatcher. Love the white around the eye.

Miss Mary, at least there's another female hummer there.

Pelle, I think that's a wonderful picture of the imm. Red-tailed.

I have a 7 Scrub Jay juvies and it's been so enjoyable watching each of them grow and change from gray feathers to blue. I surely must have too much time on my hands!

That's a beautiful Parrot GP...hope it isn't an escaped pet. Met...I would love to see one of those Hooded Warblers, maybe this fall.
Dave, great shots of a quick little bird...you are fast!! Miss Mary...I agree that your Hummer is a Juvie male. Pelle...great shot of the Hawk and Duc just lovely shots as always!
