Happy to hear you're seeing so many hummers Deep. I'm with Mrs. Ed. Some of our Anna's migrate to Mexico in the fall (the older ones sometimes stay here year round)and judging from the gorget colors, these are male and female Anna's.

Thanks Mrs Ed, ducbucln. The more I see these guys the more I think that they are the Anna's. We have hummer all year round, but I'm not sure if it's the same group, or different migratory waves. I'll pay more attention this year.

Deep, I don't get the Costa's here, but when you see them, you'll see the deeper purple color of the gorget (under the bill) and be able to distinguish them from the Anna's.

I saw a costas down in Cabo… it was a female though. But boy could it catch a bug!

There is a Rufous Hummingbird that was just captured and banded in a north coastal New Jersey town.

By the way, congratulations to duc for the winning bird picture on DG's photo contest!

Duc, Are your hummers still around?

It's a new year, sorry I missed your last question Pelle. I'm off to a pretty good start for hummers this year. There are 6 Anna's and 1 Rufous that just arrived two days ago.

Here's my older Anna's that spent the winter with us-he's continuing to fight off the other hummers from his feeder.

This young Anna's was showing off for my camera, but she let me get up close.

We had three different snowfalls in the past couple weeks and I had to keep the snow and ice off of the feeder ports which I'm certain the birds appreciated.

There are plenty of feeding ports on our two feeders, but this one kept cutting in to get a drink from one already in use.

This hummer had just chased off another one.

Not very sharp, but this one was already trying to get nectar from the Forsythia buds.

Last one for today, one of my adult male Anna's.

I've found the hummers love the flowing vines on my fence so I'm just letting continue to grow.

Meanwhile out west, this male sure was defending his feeder, but returned to this vine each time where I took over 200 photos of him.

This is his "attitude" stance.

He's telling someone to get away here.

Unfortunately a couple bees found this feeder.

This one didn't pay any attention to the bee.
