Gordon, when you and your friends were sitting around, looking at your work of art, were you all saying"wow, man, look at those colors." LOL That pic sure brings back memories of some goofy, fun times. You made an old woman smile..

that wasn't my bed.. it was created for a Lady named Lonnie... a song writer ...perhaps you remember ... the song KAY... OK Kay .. it ok Kay with me... [hint] a sessame Street hit that followed the blockbuster ...Jay...
any way... I did enjoy it... my bed at the time .. hung from large hevy chains from the ceiling... you'd rock your self back to sleep at the start of tossing and unrest... this was on top of the closet... whose roof was a carpet of Grass... that's lawn t o you out there.... incase you took it differently... in the open rafters there was a series of growlux lights.... if you remember them .. their pink/blue glow... yes I was laying in bed considering the many colors... it made everything extra vivid..I put them in lots of baths .. end evryone felt better about how they were doing... to each their own... enjoyment ... for sure.. and I try to still give voice to mine.. to me... for me...
I'm tickled ..." pink" when someone finds a bit of pleasure it ... and I'm in the business of assisting others in this endeavor... to help them give reality to a pleasure they imagine they might have... creating in the physical world ..a kitchen perhaps... but it's not just the space....
but how it works as enjoyment... or spurs one on to theirs .. and enjoying the process..
Here's the big EF today... last night in the full mooon... let me tell you it was wonderful...
fragrance galore...
But... you can see the pathway through... with the stepping stones ... blocked by this grower... and it sits there with her limbs tied back to no lasting help.... she'd be a great large standard.. or a central grove of one plant..

Gordon,do you winter-over your begonia? I have a large dragon wing, that I am going to try to keep thru the winter.I like the bloom form on yours..gonna have to watch for that one.
Dee

Little Rock, AR(Zone 7b)

I'm not Gordon - but I did overwinter a dragon wing begonia this past winter. I had it in a little mini green house I have and it looked pretty pitiful come spring but it survived and perked up after I put it outside. It's been pretty all summer.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3a)

I have over wintered mine also, they don't like alot of water.

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

I haven't tried to overwinter it yet,,, perhaps I'll bring it in and see how it goes.. I't a good color point in any bunch of flowers... they really pop... [ see picture ] It was a big hanging basket at the nurseries in the spring... but I looked and found a small one I could use... they do grow up nicely... they are a popular city plant... they have 3 or 3 big baskets of them hanging from the light poles in the park that's along the river ...way up in upper Manhatten... I'm going by them tomorrow.. I'll take a few pictures of them...

What a beautiful pic Gordon...with all that color.Which brug is that? I do love the way the blooms hang on your firecracker begonia. This may be a silly question, but do you get hummingbirds?
Dee

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

thanks Dee.. I don't know..who it is..If I figure it out I'll mention it.. I haven't seen any hummers this year.. although I did heve their feeder up for most of it..sometimes they have come about.. Panama is the place to see them.. hubdreds around their feeding stations there.. and they rip the sides off the brug flowers rather than getting just what they can reach inside... lots of the flowers have these big holes in the sides.... up where the nectar might be ..
So here's a picture of the firecracker begonia baskets..

if I figure it out I'll mention it..

here's the way they show up close... to have them look so good at the end of the sumer...under the citys care says alot about the new` focus they have on growing things here.. mostly it was the neighborhoods or associations that did a good job of it.. or perhaps it's just that strong.. and forgiving.. as well as being so lovely

The city has a new focus .. lots of summer plantings.. lots of tropicals... bananas as island plantings.. I don't know if they gather them up in the fall.. or just treat them as annuals.. here's my local park on the corner.. an asphalt ball field.. a bacci court with planting all around.. they Have 3... 7' tall brugs one has started it's flowering there today.. just starting...
OH.. OK...another act of Gorilla planting.. by guess who...

Those planters are gorgeous! It's so nice of you to plant brugs for others in your neighborhood to enjoy. Look at all the blooms on that baby! I wish our town would plant some tropicals. I love them! Thanks, for the great pics.
The hummers in Panama must be a grand sight.I wouldn't be able to pull myself away, if there were hundreds. I have only been able to count 5 at my feeders and baskets, but they dart about so fast...who knows?..lol When they are feeding and diving at each other, I love watching them.
