Snotty Gobbles?? Ewwww... so I went and looked http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/188792/

Quoting:
Washing a split fruit is like handling a live bubble snail shell from the beach: it's smooth, heavy, roundish, and slippery.

The taste is mild but pleasant, like a cross between a peach and a plum. The slimy interior isn't particularly unpleasant while eating the fruit, except that it tends to coat one's tongue, which then seems briefly to block the taste buds and therefore to block further taste of the fruit, and seems to leave a dry sensation on the tongue. While eating, the slime also tends to get onto one's lips.

double ewwww!!!

Now someone has to bust into one of those fruit/nuts and let us know who lives in it!

LOL Is there really a tree called 'Snotty Gobbles'?

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes...there was a tree with fruit id a while back. But if I remember those fruits were a lot smaller and only had one seed. These are larger and have three seeds (maybe).

Here is the link to that tree identification. It was a funny thread.

#5 Some of the leaves are as big as my hand........

The man was still sitting out under his carport, just like when Sandy & I stopped the first time. He again said the the fruit is like a pomegrante. Dumby me, forgot to get another fruit. Going to work tomorrow & will get another one for closer examination.
He also said he is really anxienous(sp) for us to find out what these trees are, for him.

I've never seen the whole tree, only the fruit/nut I had gotten IDd so no comparison, sorry. I still think that fruit looks correct in size, shape and marking.

I will be curious to see what is inside. They really are nothing like the pomegranites I've met though, unless he cut into one before the center formed....

You are prolonging the suspense for him, for me, for Sandy, for all of us... lol I'd bet you read mysteries too...

now I am curious.....do you read mysteries???? LOL

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Not much although I read. I am too impatient and have too vivid an imagination. Then, I get frustrated as I should have caught the clue. Not the best detective. Do you?

Magnolia, TX(Zone 8b)

No, I don't read mysteries. Actually, these days I don't read much. Rather play in the dirt!!! Can't imagine why?
:~)

This is the thread I had going last year. If it isn't the snotty gobbles, there are a mess of similar trees listed.

I found this seed pod in my garage. It does look like the Tung Oil Tree.
