Apropos of Nothing v.18

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

I like the lighter color - they show up in the green/grey landscape.

Buckley, WA(Zone 7b)

I am looking forward to seeing them "live". The color looks awesome in the picture.

Sharon, what are you planning to put in your new bed, besides the daylilies?

(Sharon)SouthPrairie, WA(Zone 7a)

I went to Costco this morning and indulged myself in a bunch of new spring bulbs for the new beds. I will intersperse the daylilies with other stuff that will give color at various times of the year also. Watson's is having their fall sale right now --40% off of perennials and Nursery stock--and Julie and I plan a trip there one day next week with our wish lists. We are stuck at the shop this week as Ward is off pursuing elk with his bow.

(Sharon)SouthPrairie, WA(Zone 7a)

I am also watching Pixy's offerings, of course. It is such a thrill to finally have a large garden that I consider "full sun". I will definitely plan to start a bunch of delphiniums to stagger between where the roses from the lower rose bed show up.

Buckley, WA(Zone 7b)

What bulbs did you get?

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

Wow. Julie and Sharon, your new beds are beautiful! I have serious rock envy. Are those Kapowsin Blue rocks terribly expensive? I wonder if I could ask Santa for some... hehe.

Buckley, WA(Zone 7b)

Pony, I was thinking the very same thing. I went to Washington Rock's website, but I did not understand the pricing. I think we should take a field trip!

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

I wish I had a bigger truck. Poor little Stevie can't haul big enough loads of rock, darnit. hehe.

Buckley, WA(Zone 7b)

We can use our truck, Pony.

(Julie)South Prairie, WA(Zone 7a)

Thanks for the compliments! I was soooooo thrilled with the color and composition of the rocks when I got them. The have almost a granite like quality and have quite a bit of quartz running here and there through them. I know that this makes them a bit weaker, but I am not building a retaining wall, so it won't matter a bit. The 1/2 man rocks (what I got.... 10-120 pounds each) are $30 a ton if you pick them up. They were quite a bit more delivered, but there was no way I was going to even speculate about trying to haul 10 tons so we paid the big bucks. It would be really cool to hand pick a batch of these though... some have some incredible color/personality.

Pony, I think Stevie is the perfect size to keep you and your poor back out of trouble! You were on my mind on Saturday when I was hauling rock, and even though I used the tractor to do most of the heavy work I was done in by the time I was finished.

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

ROFL! Julie, you're probably right- if I had a bigger truck I'd just hurt myself worse. ;)

Lynn, are you being an enabler? Hmmm? ;)

Buckley, WA(Zone 7b)

Who, ME?

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

Uh-huh. You look soooo innocent. *snerk*

Langley, WA(Zone 7b)

Wow, really looking forward to seeing these new beds of Julie's and Sharon's in 'person' at the ru!

(Julie)South Prairie, WA(Zone 7a)

Lynn is an expert enabler! If you guys do make a plan and I am not horribly busy that day, I would be willing to ride along and help load rocks with the objective of finding one or two spectacular flat ones to use as steps in my new bed.....

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

Gaaaaaaah! I screwed up BAD today. I had my pre-op appointment today, but I thought it was tomorrow. I totally missed it. They called a few minutes ago, and the only time they can squeeze me in is Monday, the day before my surgery. Not ideal to have it so close, since they'll be doing my blood work and taking more x-rays if needed. Argh... I am such an idiot! I've been having such troubles with my memory lately- I've just been screwing up left and right- it's really upsetting. I've always been real good at keeping track of things, but not anymore, I guess. :(

Ooh, Pony, I hate when that happens! But glad they didn't have to put off the surgery.

I had Kapowsin blue at my old house and I've always missed them, not the least because they had crystals in them. They really are lovely rocks. i had a big flat one that sat underneath an oak tree and was the perfect 'sitting' rock. I've always missed it.
Julie, the bed is glorious! Such sunshine you will have! And Sharon has a new bed, too. I could get excited for a new bed if I let myself.

Julie, a couple of years ago my dh bought me a truckload of compost for our anniversary. It was excellent!

Vashon, WA(Zone 8b)

Compost, manure, and rocks are the best of gifts...other than plants of course (but I manage to buy too many of the latter without any help from my DH).

The rocks and new tagro look lovely, like a new canvas ready to paint.

(Linda)Gig Harbor, WA(Zone 8a)

Sharon & Julie-beautiful new beds! Can't wait to see them..got montbrecia!!! Ha

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Nice work, ladies!!!

Pony, you take care and I completely undersatand about memory lapses. Praying surgery goes well next week.

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

Thanks, Jan. :)

Vashon, WA(Zone 8b)

I also hope the surgery and prior appointment go well and that recovery is as swift as possible. I imagine a hard thing for you to remember once it is feeling just a little better is that rest helps the initial healing process. And then (oh Queen of Rock Hauling with the bare hands) you gradually build up strength and stamina.

Pony.... ditto what Holly said... you know that I hope everything goes perfectly with the surgery, but remember to REST AND HEAL afterwards so the results are long lasting!

(Judi)Portland, OR

I also ditto what Holly said. Be kind to your healing body.

(Sharon)SouthPrairie, WA(Zone 7a)

Same goes for me, Pony.

Burwash Weald, United Kingdom(Zone 9b)

Hooray, WE HAVE A NEW QUEEN!! She of the barehanded rock hauling! long may she reign - and as another of her soverign subjects I wish her swift healing, and echo best wishes for a restful healing break. May i suggest that she ride out on her trusty garden steed and survey her planted queendom for a few days. I understand that her new new steed has a gentle rocking gait which others have found soothing.

All the best, Pony. Take care.

(Ohmigawd - I sound like Sofer!)

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Laurie, that was fabulous.

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

ROFL! Laurie- I almost didn't have to have surgery, because I almost choked to death on my coffee when I read your post. Hahahaha*splutter*hahaha*wheeze*burble*hack*

Awright, ya bunch of nags- I'll behave myself! Honest! LOL :p

(Thanks everybody.) :)

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

Pony may you be successfully repaired and get through recovery and healing with the most rapidity. May your steed remain appeased while you rest her in the stables. And most importantly may your callous' remain on you hands while you rest so you can stack, stack, and haul the glorious minerals waiting for your creativity.
Today I found 7 large beautiful rocks that will need my rock-hauler to get. Right near my house in a place a property for sale is covered with glacial debris. I can't wait. I am cutting wood there so they won't have a clue. THEFT IS MY FAVORITE PAST-TIME! After all I cut and cleaned up 8 large trees for him at no cost. (Justification of crime)

(Judi)Portland, OR

Laurie, you're good, but Sofer, well, he's the champ.

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

*standing ovation*

Laurie gave him a run for his money, though... ;)

Here's to rock thievin'! :D

Burwash Weald, United Kingdom(Zone 9b)

I do doff my cap to our dear Sofer, the bard, so good it is only possible to imitate. Our liege. But please, let us not overlook MFH who annointed Pony - hail!

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

I am not the Queen of hauling rock with my bare hands!

...I wear gloves!

:p

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

Apropos of nothing- does anybody want a push mower? The kind with no motor, I mean. It works fine if your yard is very flat, not so much if it's lumpy and bumpy like ours. Free to good home!

Cedarhome, WA(Zone 8b)

Someone take Pony up on this -- I got one a couple years ago and absolutely love it. It is so nice to mow quietly. My granddaughter and her friends 'fight' over whose turn it is to push the mower. I use it mainly for my herb garden, which has a convoluted grass path throughout.

(Sharon)SouthPrairie, WA(Zone 7a)

That is SO pretty!

Burwash Weald, United Kingdom(Zone 9b)

Lovely setting bonehead, and i agree - I love the sound of a push mower.

(Judi)Portland, OR

Bonehead, what a beautiful herb garden.

Buckley, WA(Zone 7b)

It is so neat and organized! Wow!!!

When you all come to my house, do not expect my gardens to look like Bonehead's!
I am the Queen of Clutter, with many projects/tasks started, but nothing completed. My head is constantly thinking of what else needs to be done, so I wander off track. The garden in my mind does not look like the garden in reality. Nor will it ever. Those weeds just keep on growing faster than I can pull them. And somehow, my truck just cannot stay away from a plant sale. I love how gardens evolve into something totally different and new.

Cedarhome, WA(Zone 8b)

The trick is to quickly take a photo right after neatening things up. Then hold that image in your mind as the weeds take over again. I walked around last evening sipping wine and planning enough projects in my head to last into the next millenium...stepping over weed piles that need to be picked up, hoses strung all over creation, and random tools that I will be soon be hunting for.
