ahhhh.. I am still learning here.
Gourd 2009 Crosses
Dracula is a kikyo? Welll, go figger..
Yup! Dracula was discovered by Antoinette. And she named it. And the name does seem to fit it! Looks like the dark circles around drac's eyes! LOL! And the pale skin ...
It is a good thing there is a google..lol, you can look things like that up.
you are too funny, never too late or too old to learn is my saying.
Becky, I was wondering what kind of soil you use? Do you mix your own soil? I bought a cheap potting soil this year and really regretted it...I saw that Atenkley used and interesting potting mix and asked him about it, but he seems to hardly visit this forum these days.
Martin
PS. Becky, do you ever observe leaf irregularities with your vines? You seem to observe the first and last flowers of your vines and how they change...I am really puzzled what causes these variations in the leaves...
See my thread here...
Martin - I use MiracleGro Moisture Control along with perlite, vermiculite, compost, etc. I grow mine in self-watering buckets. Works well in this heat and conserves water. :-)
Thanks Becky. What does the etc. mean?
Martin
Martin - LOL! It means whatever I feel like throwing the potting mix at that moment! :-)
Martin, you should really try to go to your local horticulturist and get information on the soil you ALREADY have because the soils in other countries are different, as you already know. Don't you have that type of service or gardeners there? I'm sure if you see a nice green garden/plants, they would not mind if you stopped by and asked what they use to amend their soils. They would probably be very flattered that you asked and happy to give you that information .....etc. etc. etc...
Where is Arlan lately... he did post on Gardener05's thread in the hybridizer's forum, so he may be working lately.
Martin, the other thing you can do is send your soil off to be tested. If the information that you had previously gotten has not helped, and I think you said you moved, you really need some local advice... we can give you growing adivce, seeds ...etc.. but we can't possibly know what pathogens are in your soils, or, micro-nutrients, or it's needs. I just wanted you to be aware of that and wasn't saying to be a stickler.. etc.
A - Look at one of your babies! This is perfectly ROUND bloom! It looks like it's a frizbee or something. And look at all those spots and splotches! Such a cool looking bloom!
It's your Fuji Shibori x Ten Ten! I just love this vine! Another winner of a cross! I'm having a blast with all the speckles this year!
Wow, that's so cool!!!
Aren't the sizes, shapes and colors surprising? The tubes are really firm too, it seems to make them stronger. What I like about these is that they give the other I. nils competition in durability, the vines are of medium size, but they are full if you feed them.. Usually I only grow one seed per pot, so there is only one vine in there, but can you imagine if there were 3 or 4 vines? It would make a great display. I'm getting ansy here wanting to grow some.
Becky, thanks for showing us the results of this cross, and Butterflychaser, thanks for the kind words you have shown me and I appreciate that.
Antoinette, you've created some beauties. I look forward to seeing more from you. I love the splashes and splotches. I didn't know they came that way. Very cool!!!
