DAILY PICS VOL. 339

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

The juvi male Orchard Oriole came by and posed for me, but my camera just would not focus on him. It was infuriating. Got 3 OK shots. I think this is the one that I like the best.

I have this really ugly little feeder that I just fill the bottom of with safflower seed. If I fill it any fuller, the White Wing Doves just spill it all over. They can't actually feed from the feeder, but they can hold on, flap their wings and spill most of the seed on the ground whatever is left, the house finches and cardinals get.

I moved that ugly little feeder b/c I had the sprinkler on. These two house finches just sat on the branch where the feeder was supposed to be and waited for me to put it back.

Elphaba, human is not only species known to be 'creature of habit'. Apparently those two little finches are habitually used to having the feeder there. lol.

Lighting is agaisnt me here, but my one contribution;

I was tickled to have found an only male Goldfinch came by to visit. Above it was seen with friends. Here among friends is a White Breasted Nuthatch which seems to favor peanut at the feeder.

I'm not too shy about post a not so good shot.....Like this from early in the week. I only had one chance before it was gone and it early morning...so it is what it is. But it sure took me by surprise!!

Rose-breasted Grosbeak & Robin!

That was on Tuesday

BUT then I saw this on Friday....a Juvie Rose-breasted Grosbeak maybe????

Burn, great job with your Night Hawks.

Met, that Vireo is beautiful.

Elphaba, love your Carolina Wren and the Orchard Oriole. Do your orioles drink the sugar water from the hummingbird feeders? The finches were smart little things. They know where the feeder belongs.

Lily, what a trio you had on your feeder. They sure are cute.

Nanny, glad you were able to at least get one shot at the grosbeak and robin! Congratulations on seeing your juvie!!

This Western Bluebird was at our local state park this morning with a mate.

Found a few Green Herons at the park too. This one was just sitting on a tree branch and watching us cross a small bridge over the water.

Also found my first Belted Kingfisher for this year. This park is just about 7 miles from our home but this park is the only place I've seen them. They remind me of Margaret's Kookaburra, but her bird is much more colorful.

Nanny, your young Eastern Bluebird is very cute, so is that Goldfinch.

I can always count on an Oak Titmouse to be near the water.

This young Turkey Vulture still has the gray face.

Really......oh well...

Melbourne, FL

I am just beginning to notice a little more bird activity around me. Even the Grackles were gone for a while and are showing up again. Twice I have caught a glimpse of a small brown bird at the feeder, but have not been able to identify it yet. The female Red-bellied Woodpecker has been visiting many times a day.

Of course the Blue Jays are steady visitors also.

A duo; Great Blue Heron and Egret. Gp, love that Redbellied wp. Mine have vacated for a few weeks now. Only the Redheaded remain.

Same here...just an occasional visit from the Red-bellied Woodpeckers right now.

I have seen a few rather large female housefinch versus juvie Brownhead blackbird? I'm not sure, I even questioned Pine Siskin (to the left), am I right?

Columbus, GA(Zone 8a)

ducbucln - that was a nice capture of the Black-crowned Night Heron in flight. AND I'd sure like to see one of those Green Herons. AND WOW, that pic of the park Green Heron is tops.

Elphaba - your Orioles are sure pretty. AND the pic of the 2 HOFINs awaiting the return of the ugly feeder is real nice, too.

Resin - "Grey Heron . . . came out better than I expected." - I'll say!. Nice pic.

burn_2007 - I liked the 1st pic of the Night Hawk best.

Methodical - I went back and forth and think I like the 2nd shot of the Vireo the best. Nice.

Lily_love - I've been seeing a few GOFINs fairly regular here.

nanny_56 - Nice pic of the juvie Cowbird (I agree with Resin), I had a whole lot of them here earlier this year. AND you Red-belly is nice, too. But, I've been seeing more Downy's around here.

gardenpom - your female Red-belly is pretty. I spotted a juvie (no red on the head, at all) here today, but didn't have my camera with me.

Nice shots everyone!! Hack, try putting some beer around the feeder...that just may get the Whirlybird to take interest. ;)

PERTH, Australia

LOL Burd.

Nice shots, Hack. I love the Catbird.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Burd, I was thinking along the line....what would attract those Whirlybirds, and you've nailed it. lol. Hi there Margaret, awww. Hack I'd say, Nan, you and I we all get alot more downy wps than others. Though, you & Nan seem to have got more catbirds and GOFINs year round than I do.

Redheaded Wp. visits before sunrise.

Gp, glad to see you here. That's a cute Red-bellied! Love the expression on the jay.

Lily, I get a kick out of your heron and egret. Wonder if you've have more if you had more posts for them to sit on?

Nanny, cute wps!

Iris, you'll have to make some suet for the birds!!

Hack, those Chickadees are so cute. lol on the "whirley" bird. I liked the feeder shot of the cardinal and sparrow. They look happy.

I finally found my first juvie Mockingbird.

Thumbnail by ducbucln

Caught this juvie Oriole as it was jumping for a feeder spot.

Hey Hack, here's my version of your "Whirley" bird. It landed on the deck and not one bird grabbed it-at least while I was taking pictures.

Here's another juvie Oriole.

WOW, duc, your 7D is cooking! That jumping juvie Oriole is great. I have quite a few dragonflies, too, and now that you mention it, I've never seen one taken, either.

I think this is a female House Finch - but I've seen some juvy cowbirds lately and sometimes get confused.
