Will miss you, Phoebe!
The little things in life that make you happy
Take care and be well!
:(
You were informed that it's against policy?? Are you serious??? Do they want people just to drop off the face of the DG world and leave us wondering what happened to them????
A watermelon growing in my vegetable annex (the neighbor's yard)! Try as hard as I have - I've yet to get a watermelon - and this year - maybe! Happy Dance here.
Happy surprise, Memory.
Toasted Marshmallows!
The sound of rain!
The smell of the garden after a good rain.
You are a lucky woman.
The state of Maine is seriously under-rated!
Everyone yaks about the beauty of California, and other states, blah-blah-blah....but Maine is just plain g.o.r.g.e.o.u.s. !
Thanks B.A. , I think so. LOL
Beautiful cake Jen, that ought to make your daughter smile!!
Spectacular lakes.....I'm sure my stepson has fished them all!
All true, but I'll take California from Nov-March!
Boring, boring, boring and kinda hot in California then and NO RAIN!
I am so going to miss NE when I move back there (in 4 years and maybe). I'm making a "suitcase list" - like a bucket list without the implied fatal ending - of all the things I want to do and see in NE before I go back to boring So. Cal. I will take suggestions!
Why go back???
Yeah, why go back ?!?
Do you want to sit on the 405 (or whatever that highway is) for 3 hours each day?
Unless you want to learn Mandarin Chinese on the auto's tape deck, you will be wasting your life away.
I only have a limited number of years left in my life, and they won't be sitting in traffic !!!
California is big enough that it's pretty hard to classify it all as one type of area. We've got a little of everything here: ocean breezes, desert winds, mountain blizzards, valley fog . . . plus earthquakes, flooding, wild fires, avalanches, and drought.
You're right, I jumped onto the stereotype too fast. I've only been to L.A., and it was, at least to me, very traffic-congested, and superficial.
I've heard many good things about California, and I did not get to explore the state fully.
But here is the "warning sign": when the news media announces, "there are 500 people moving into Florida (or Nevada, or New Mexico) every week" the alarm bells go off, because the infrastructure (roads, water supply, etc.) can become strained.
I guess I've turned from a young hippie into an old fuddy-duddy.
And gazillions in debt.
The Terminator is the Governor, he'll take care of it.
He was the governor all these years when they created it.
The Govenator is not one of the little things in life that make me happy.
I consider California an alternate universe.
My Dad has asked me to come back and take care of him. I would live in his house and yes, my cats are going with me and he has two cats. A lot can happen in the next couple of years - I can't leave until I can get full Social Security benefits and that is in 4 years. He might even change his mind. But I'm getting my mind wrapped around the idea and it is a great excuse to clear out clutter!
Things that make me happy:
Cleaning out a drawer, or box, because I tend to be a "clutterbug."
Each box that gets tossed/recycled represents a victory.
I don't want to end up on that cable show "Hoarders."
New mown hay, warblers, the scent of Oriental lilies......
One of the little things for me is seeing a flower I've never grown before bloom for me. :)
Two hummingbirds instead of the usual one!
Hey! I have a hummingbird coming to the garden this year - apparently it likes the red and white gladioloa and the red lobelia plants :-)
Wallingford (on leash) and I were sitting on the front porch just chillin' the other evening and a hummingbird flew within 6 feet of us poking at an Elephant's Head Amaranth. It didn't like it and flew off - but what a treat to see the little bird!
Yay!!! I haven't seen any this year
I've had many. Just saw one before.
Carolina wrens, as well as cardinals, blue jays, cat birds, mocking birds, and others, show up every morning at daybreak for the small dish of chopped-up tidbits of leftovers from the kitchen.
Just about everything is food to different bird species, from a pizza crust to a small piece of ham that fell on the floor (my late dog used to handle those matters before he went off to Doggie Heaven, after a long and happy life as a canine vacuum cleaner).
The birds will eat everything but lettuce, green beans, etc.
You'd be amazed that just a few crumbs of different things draws a big variety of birds...fun to watch !!!
:)
Would love to do it, but afraid the bear will come back.
Yikes!
I never had to worry about a bear, my town is too densely populated for anything bigger than a racoon.
Seeing Michaela (Seandor) post makes ME happy!
