DAILY BUTTERFLIES Page 79
Nice shots! Off to do the lawn today...later
Nice shots Nanny, Lily and Elaine. I didn't take a one today. I spent the day helping DS trimming up the pecan tree to all more sun to some plants. Then we had to cut and bundle for pickup. Wish I had enough property to start a large compost pile. It was so hot I slept for two hours this afternoon after taking him home...I was exhausted.
Sheila, That's kinda the norm around here.......we worked Sat/Sun morning moving a 15 yard pile of mulch. Could only do it till around noon and then every piece of clothing was soaked and we just couldn't stand it any more. All more horses are up in their stalls during the day with fans on and I'm still giving them showers during the day. I've been refilling the bird/butterfly baths' several times a day to keep cool water available , and putting lots of fruit out for the BF's too.
I can't imagine having to work for a living out in this heat all day everyday. Guess they are more use to it though.
Wonderful shots of the moth and hummer jmorth! I am loving that lily and so are they it seems. I am not seeing tails on the last one, are they just not showing or...could it be a red-spotted purple?
Shelia, I reviewed other shots from same series and alas, no tails noted.
So did you look and see if it was RSP? I haven't ever seen one in my camera lens to know for sure.
Looks like an RSP to me...if you look real close you can see the redspot on the tops of the upper wing on the left.
Hey ya'll - one of the local butterfliers photographed a Tawny Emperor (Asterocampa clyton louisa) mating with a Red-Bordered Pixie (Melanis pixe) at our NBC (National Butterfly Center). Our NBC is an outdoor park - no enclosures at all - all the butterflies that frequent it are 'in the wild' - talk about being totally freaky!!! Seeing that is definitely a one in a gazillion photo opportunity!
They are two completely separate genus/species!!!
Scroll down to the last two photos.

Wow,, that is amazing, cat. That would be interesting to see if they morphed a new butterfly. Did they catch the female to see?
Jmorth, love that hummingbird pic. What is that lily?
Elaine
Whoa! Thanks for sharing Cat. Nice to see you again.
Even though its' hot, please don't rush summer!!! I know I can barely go outside in this humidity, but the dark and dead winter is tooooooooooo..oooooo (extra oooo) depressing.
This Painted Lady is standing on a Japanese Beetle. Wish it would EAT that beetle.
Edited to say that it's lightly raining out and yet there are two monarchs on the torch flower!

Mrs_Ed,
I'm with you on the rushing of summer. I'm trying to soak up every moment before the 1st frost. Even seeing the birds start changing their gears...so to speak is starting to depress me. Even though I look forward to the birds migrating...seeing species I only see at this time of the year...like lots of hummers, warblers, wood thrushes, juncos, etc...I go stir crazy from Jan 2nd til the middle of March. At least by that time I can occupy myself with sowing seeds and watching for the 1st arrivals of birds and butterflies again. Wouldn't it be great if we can add that time of year to the Spring/Summer? :D
Let us know if the beetle was devoured...LOL
I know the whiteflies here are horrific this year...Grrrrrrrr.
Very nice Painted Lady pic! We are usually in a sea of Painted Ladies by now...only seen 3 so far this year. I'm still hoping to see and American Lady before the end of the season :)

Oh how I wish I'd had my camera this afternoon, had some tiny Bf's that I would have loved to get pics of but I had "equestrian client's " here and my grandson so just could not take the time. Some tiny very brown not alot of color but very cute BF's. We already have one NWLF reorganization and are working on another, more complicated one, which requires many photo's, survey's and much more documentation and this would have helped alot. But this is the last week that I will have my baby grandson as much, so am enjoying it as much as possible. I can take pictures later...............
That is right, you are creating memories of a different kind.
I'm just over the moon about 40 species of butterflies visiting our gardens this year!!! We surpassed last year's count of 36 a few weeks ago...Amazing! And there is still about an entire month maybe longer for more new ones...yippee!!!
I'm not excited...am I? LOL
