Jmorth,
Awesome pic! I know some species of butterflies that one sex is larger than the other, but Wowie! That's a huge difference!!!
Here's a Cabbage white mated pair...
DAILY BUTTERFLIES Page 79
I don't have a salt block outside they would melt here, we keep them in the stall's for the horses, but the bf's particularly the Tiger's, will puddle where the horse's have urinated. I have one horse who always uses the same spot in the sand, and it's also in a shady area, and their are very often BF's puddling there, they are after the mineral's. I also have large pieces of Coquina Rock with crevices and depressions that we keep filled with water and we see the BF's on them as well.
Awesome pix J. You know, that makes me feel good to see the two sizes, because I've been thinking I'm crazy this year seeing small ones and really thinking that they were bigger!
I know what you mean nanny....I had to go out of town for a couple days and had to quit bringing in cats and had to release those that had not pupated also. It is hard to do.
I was so tempted, I want to help the BF's but yet I am a bird lover too and know they need food too. It is so hard to balance it all without some guilt here and there along the way. But I feel good that I have released 4 BST and have another four in chrysalis to release ....hopefully and still 2 more cats.
I did see a couple of moarchs this week too...but no pics.
Eastern Tiger Swallowtail puddling....lots of these this year.
nanny, if you knew how many blurry BF's pics I've had to delete off the camera you wouldn't think your's was too bad ! LOL
Great shot...be sure to post that in bugfiles.
Oh, I love the aged old barn wood look, apparently they do too ! Hey, what happened to Mellie ? It's been awhile since I posted until lately, and I haven't seen anything from her.
mj
Enjoyed all these pics.
Question on the porterweed (mj) or anyone. I have the blue/purple. Do you have that one also? And if so, do the butterflies like the red or blue better. And yes, where is that Mellie? She must be busy raising all those butterfly babies.
Here is ETS today at Laurel's mountain home in north Georgia.
Nice TST pic.
Not sure about Mellie, I mentioned on the last thread that she hadn't posted in so long.
I have the red, blue and coral porter weed and get good use on all of them. I have had more problems with the blue ones seeding than the other two though. Still worth having.
Just checked Mellie's info and she has let her membership lapse. :-(( She had been a membersince 2004. Hope she is ok and just busy.
If anyone ever goes to the MOSI (Museum of Science Inst) or I think that is it; please ask for her and tell her she is missed. She worked in the permanent butterfly exhibit and had mentioned a flight cage.
Well I went back and looked at a post she had made in March this year. I didn’t remember reading this.

I went on a search and found she quit posting about mid May.
Hope she will come back online, she was the more prolific poster with pictures almost everyday of something she found on a hike, etc.
Miss you Melanie!
Hope she is ok and her mom/dad too.
I had wondered about her too...I didn't recall that post either. Do hope she is okay and she is really missed here.
Newbies to this forum need to go back to some of our other 75 plus threads and see all the wonderful posts that have been made over the last few years. Caterpillars that were raised that I will never see, etc. Good stuff in them there old posts.
Wonderful pics everyone!
Sheila,
I dream of seeing a very adventurous Queen up here someday!!! And how cool that we both had a Black Form TST at the same time :D
This is the first year I have seen this many TSTs and the only year for the dark unless I thought it was something else. Sure wish I had something small that they used as a host plant so I could collect and raise one.
