Coffee Break # 42 Can we add some ice to that coffee??

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

very simple to do

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I think I've done it a few times - with alcohol.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

I'm thinking the alcohol wouldn't be of any help

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I was thinking the liver was not much of a help.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Can't do without your liver though

Anyone have a ball park figure for a landscaper to do 1 project? I have 2 appts(if they show) this week for estimates on my rock garden project. I'd do it but it's soooo darn hot and we want to get it done pretty quickly. or maybe I'll have them just do all the hardscape and I leave the planting for the fall.

Thomaston, CT

Have no idea...depends on the work involved I guess.

Depends if machinery is involved or not.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes - could be all over the place depending on scale, hours and what's needed.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Jen what is a liver flush? Yes welcome home Victor how was Disney? I would like to take my GDs someday when they are a bit older.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks, Ronnie. We had fun. Start saving now!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Liver flush is a process to get rid of the stones and sediment in it...there are a number of different ones from an overnight one(which I did) to an almost month long one.
Involves drinking a juice mix, some flushes include using epsom salts while some use different herbs.

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Jen, I am glad for you, hope you will not have any more problems

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Thanks Maria. Info on liver very interesting...learning a lot.

Had 1 landscaper come out today and the price for just a paving block walk was $4180. That is JUST the walkway 48' long.

WOW when you're used to doing things by yourself you really get sticker shot!!!!

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

That is pricey. We just had our bathtub replaced with a walk in shower and it was $8000. Amazing how much everything costs.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

We need to do our bathroom too in the near future. Yikes!

Thomaston, CT

Yikes! I guess I made out better....my new kitchen floor is $500....but that's not including labor....since my DIL's uncle is tiling (he used to do it for a living) I'll save a little there.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

I had about 25 feet of brick laid three years ago to replace the walk to my front door. I supplied the brick and just the labor was $900. It was worth it though - three years later every single brick is still in place and the whole walk is a flat as it can be.

Thomaston, CT

LOL Jen....we think the same! Although I'd like to do the upstairs bath over, unless I win the lotto, It's not happening.

Thomaston, CT

That was a good price, Memory.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

We did our entire kitchen a few years ago, except appliances, for about $5000, which included supplies and labor. We bought the cupboards from Lowes, and a general contractor friend and DH and I did the rest.
The shower was custom built, and all was done by the company. We definitely saved on the kitchen.

Sounds like Disney prices!

I hope this is not where we're headed!

Terrible tragedy in CT. One victim was set to retire this year.

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Been on TV all day--very, very sad. The shooter was from my town.

Thomaston, CT

Folks said he was very quiet, but had an extensive gun collection, & liked to play video games.....sometimes a bad combination.

And that teacher who threw herself down the stairs? Don't judge too harshly.....there were days I felt like doing something drastic, but not to myself! One of my HS teachers held a male student out of the window....can you imagine the backlash today? And the kid was a real weasel.....none of us blamed the teacher.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I do sympathize with teachers and could never do it myself, unless I had the younger ones.

South Hamilton, MA

Re CT: I read that one man was a real hero--warned other people, so the gunman followed him & killed him.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Oh, how terrible. Always seems to be at least one true hero in all these occurrences.

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Awwww.....RIP :-(

marilyn my dad use to tell a story about one of his teachers holding a kid by the feet out a second story window - today that guy would be all over the news and in jail.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Bill, did you dad go to school in Maine? LOL We had one high school teacher do that, another had a habit of winding dictionaries at you if you weren't paying attention!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

no medford, ma. and that would be pronouced Me-fa if you lived there:)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Ha -no need to talk about Catholic school! I've seen it all.

Thomaston, CT

Heartwarming.....prayers were answered.

That happened to a friend of mine who was already in the closing stage of buying a house. He was buying it from this widow who had lost her husband and couldn't make the mortgage payments. When she was cleaning the house she found an old insurance policy of his which they had forgotten about. It was enough to pay off the house, he was a nice guy about it and let her back out of the deal w/o penalty.
