This is him on the feeder...
2010 Ruby-throated Hummingbirds Vol.6
Thanks all. Pelle, that's the Desert Sunrise from High Country Gardens. Someone very special got it for me. ;-) I lost the other two over the winter (Agastache cana and 'Sinning').
I've only seen one on the feeder once in all this time (although I just saw a chickadee there). It was funny… looked as though she was going to protect her territory from the DOG. She was getting ready to attack I think!
Saw one this morning, but not since. Maybe tonight.
Nanny, your little guys are cute! Mine sit close to the windows most of the days too. It sure gives you a good feeling to know they're so close. Great job on your photos.
Pelle, great job on your little one too. Love that first photo!
SusanLouise, congrats on your third new one.
Nice close up nanny!
Cute one Susan!
lol nice one's nanny! He definitely look's like he's ready to pounce.
Nice shots everyone!!
Hi everyone, I've been really busy and didn't get a chance to take many pics. This evening I saw a hummer at close up, and it has but a red spot on its throat-- about the size of a little pea. Is that a juvenile male RT hummingbird? Thanks for your input.
Hi Lily, not sure when they start to get the ruby throat but yes it would be a juvenile or an immature.
Nan, what neat shot of the fella! So cute!
Thanks Burd, that means I may have nesting nearby right?
Could be Lily. I find that watching the female's closely, you may be able to find a nest. Ive found 3 that way and found 2 when winter started and all the leaves were gone from the tree's, the nests are pretty durable until heavy snow come's along, up here anyways.
LOL...what a big stretch!!
I had been worried that there was something not right with this little guy...he never perched upright. It now appears I was right. Another male was attacking him and he got so he could hardly fly. He kept falling to the ground in the flower bed. The other one finally was successful in chasing him away. I am really tired of losing animals right now.
It would be a thrill finding a nest. The male is still illusive but the females either perch in the cherry tree near the feeders or zoom across the field toward the pines.
Great shots. That wonderful stretch is a hoot, pell!
I hated to see what happened to him...it has been a summer of loss for me with my animals....so I am a little stressed in that area. Don't mean to be...well you know! But I know it happens. We usually do have at least 1 hummer every year that gets fatally injured.
Last one of the little guy....beacause he was so cute to watch!
That's sad about your little guy, nanny.
Wow, Rose. Fantastic. Someone had better warn Mrs Ed.
Great shots Rose! So neat to see so many at one time.
Nanny, Sorry about your guy.
Sweet pics burn and nanny!
Welcome back Rose! Ha Margaret. Well at least I didn't cry this time! Honestly Rose, I think you could take advantage of this as a tourism thing. You could charge people. "Come picnic among the hummies. 10 bux."
Oh Nanny, I wish it wasn't illegal to capture birds. I feel like I want to take that little crouchy hummie in and feed and protect him. :(
Thanks everyone...glad you liked the madness going on here. They are still at it today...I don't know that I've witnessed them being so manic...it's just crazy!! Mrs. Ed..if I tried to make $ off of them they would probably form a union!! LOL!
Burn and Nanny...nice shots, I especially like those cute little boys..just darling!!
I looked outside just a bit ago and thankfully I noticed this on one of the feeders. I moved it to another area on the farm...very scary!!
HA! Sneaky mantis looking for a meal. Tell him to go eat some aphids.
Well I had one little hummie here this morning. Every time I saw it I ran outside with the camera, wanting to get some video. Of course by the time I got out there it would be gone and not show up! Harumph!
I DID almost get a picture of a chickadee having a drink from the ant moat.
