Nice photos everyone. The last time I was at Patuxent Research Refuge, I set up my camera and tripod near some Trumpet vines/flowers and patiently waited for a Hummingbird to arrive. I waited, and waited, and then finally ..........

Oh Linth! Those are some great shots!

Macon County, IL(Zone 5b)

Very cool pics Linth! That must be some delicious nectar for such a compromising position!

Marlton, NJ

Mine are using our trumpet vines as their the only thing with a decent amount of blooms in this bad heat.

Malvern, PA(Zone 6b)

Thanks guys. The trumpet flowers look great and the hummer is very cute as well.

PERTH, Australia

Such sweet shots, Peoniae.

Linth, how gorgeous is that shot with the Hummingbird almost swallowed by the vine flower.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Nice photos!

Glad to report that I saw a hummingbird at one of my hanging baskets yesterday.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

I'm glad that you get to see the beautiful 'lil one Mrs_Ed. That also implies summer is soon over--those beauties soon will migrate northward. Though, how hot it's outside, it isn't seem soon enough for us in the Eastern regions of the States.

The hummers do appear to prefer the natural nectar on flower and such. I saw them loving all the blooms I have all around in the garden.

Great shots Linth. My trumpets aren't in bloom yet, but I have plenty of other plants for my little ones.

Lily, love that photo of your plants too!

Macon County, IL(Zone 5b)

Finally got some pics again. The hummingbirds are in overdrive right now and the nice rain yesterday helped get them frisky. It was so hot before the rain. I notice folks were talking about the trumpet flower, but I was going to pass on that my Major Wheeler honeysuckle has kept a bloom on all season and is now putting on another spring-like bloom! The hummingbirds are always enjoying it. Here's one of my little ones at the feeder...

Here's a head on shot I thought was cute, she looks like she's a plane landing on a nectar runway!

Although not the best quality picture, I had to share this little queen perched above the feeder relaxing.

and grooming....unless this a very small, green and white swan?

Here's a picture of that honesuckle that I just now took. I think I found a winner with this one and several hummers would attest to that!

ilflowers, great job with your hummer. That honeysuckle is just beautiful. I do believe you're right-that plant is a favorite of the hummers here too.

Marlton, NJ

Great shots ilflowers! Your honeysuckle looks wonderful, mine has very few blooms because of the constant heat wave this summer.

I have a few shots of a female Ruby-throated at the feeder just a little while ago.

Thanks for the nice comments all. I was noticing after doing some research, that my little queen might actually be a young prince. Ha! If that be the case, I wholeheartedly apologize to the little fellow and beg that he return next year in spite of my insult.

Burd; I'm going to try and get over there about mid Sept. In the past I've only gone in the spring. I usually stop at that little dinner right before the armory and have breakfast early in the morning..I think it's called the BeeBop or something like that..

Fruit;, It didn't take any time at all.. He sat there for maybe 10 minutes and hummers came and went the whole time.. He was amazed at how many there were... He's a city slicker, so he's never seen that before. I have 7 feeders up right now and probably will get the other 4 put up this week as more and more of the young ones are fledging.

Hey pelle, nice pictures... Linth, that hummer in the trumpet flower looks like it's stuck. To funny! We were standing out by one of my trumpet vines last week and one of the little youngsters did the same thing.. I reached up and tugged it's tail feathers.. Boy let me tell ya, that little joker was out of that bloom in short order.. Thats one of the times I wish I had a video camera going..
