System down for maintenance during a peak period?

What's up with closing down the system for maintenance last night during peak hours. I am on Eastern Time, and they system was down at about 10:00 p.m. for maintenance. That just doesn't make sense to me. If it is routine maintenance, then why not do it in the overnight hours when it would not shut the system down during waking hours.

I was madder than a wet hen at not being able to access DG last night, and hope that this decision will not be repeated.

I suspect it wasn't routine--I remember last time they did something planned there was a notification posted in advance. I noticed the one last night too, and it didn't seem like it lasted very long and wasn't announced in advance so I suspect it was an emergency fix that wasn't planned.

What ever it was, just made me mad. I understand having to do emergency fixes, but a planned on, should have notification to go with it.

We have our own server and experienced some minor issues of our own
last night. There's a heat wave in many parts of the country, the electrical grid
is overtaxed at times as people increase usage of fans and air conditioning
so brief brownouts or outages are not uncommon. DG has been very good
about posting planned downtime but obviously if their system is down they
can't do that. Stuff happens in life.


Edited to say that our minor issues were in no way related to DG, but to
general issues with power in our area.

As far as I know it wasn't planned. I was on at 9-ish (CDT) but I didn't experience it first-hand. I'm not aware of any planned outages - when we know one is coming, we make sure you know, too.

Jeez Louise, take a chill pill girl. Sometimes the unexpected happens, find something else to do for a bit, try again later.

Yup. Bigger than a website being down though.

Since my time on line is very limited (after work and all the chores done) it is the one bright spot I look forward to at night. So I think it was a legitimate upset.

defoecat, I am sorry you were frustrated, but it was not a planned outage. If we have cleared up that question, I propose we close the thread to further comment.
