I just love that innocent look of the juvenile Scrub Jays.

I'm now seeing several more California Thrashers around. I love the long beaks on these birds.

The Spotted Towhees are mostly staying hidden in the brush and trees outside our fence but once in a while they'll wander in to the birdbaths.

Lots of Oak Titmice juveniles here that love to chase each other all over.

Quote from Mrs_Ed :
wow. I've been busy for a couple of days and look how we're flying.

I'm pretty sure this is a Juvie Dickcissel. At some point, the Meadowlarks and Dickcissels start looking very similar to me.

Yup, Dickcissel! They have the heavy finch beak.

Meadowlarks have a longer, thinner beak.

Great Shot!

I am having trouble keeping up with all the forums here and else where right now!! lol

Testimony as to how hot it has been here!

We used to have a group of 3 crows that came on a regular basis. They seem to have been replaced by this pair....who are now getting aquainted with "THE DISH"! lol

They are coming everyday now....so I will have to get some more food for them.

I didn't get a pics, but we had a Barred Owl out in the backyard again on Sunday Night. Pretty sure they come regular since it landed once again on the platform feeder hanging arm.

Last Crow shot.....

Nanny, your crows are cute. Mine all have their mouths open all day too. I bet your birds holler for their bowl to be filled when it's empty too. Mine sit on the edge of their feeder and holler at me through the window and boy do I get the message.lol
Glad to hear your owls are still around-you're so lucky.

Columbus, GA(Zone 8a)

Lily_love - you nailed the BR Heron - nice pic.

ducbucln - you do some really nice pics in the daily threads and it is comforting to me knowing that you've tried for three years and still just get "lucky" shots of hummers - oh, to be that lucky - I wish. I'm just waiting for one to alight at the feeder and give me a few moments of "non-flight". AND I enjoyed the pics of the thrasher and towhee.

nanny_56 (and duc) - I wouldn't mind having a few crows visit regularly. What do you all put in the bowls, whole kernel corn?

Lovely shots Lily, Duc and nanny!

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Hack....I just put out cheap cat or dog food for them. They and the Blue Jays just love it! During the winter I sometimes put out some corn mixed in it too.

At the ocean, on my way home, an Australasian Gannet. There's a need for a longer lens than 400mm as these birds are usually several hundred metres out to sea. This one was a little closer in, but not close enough. Still, you'll get the idea (I hope)

Wow, Margaret. The bird is being a 'good sport', a contributory member of the keep- our- environment clean team.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Those mountain shelducks are so colorful!

hey nanny, those new crows aren't afraid of that dish???

Marlton, NJ

Great shots Margaret! Those ducks are beautiful. Good catch on the Caspian Tern fishing. The water looks lovely!

Yes they are... They have yet to successfully take something from the dish and eat it it is like, a 'you do ...no way, you do it' exchange between them and then they give up and leave! lol

I am glad I had a little cat food left from when Meese was here to put out for them. They do put a smile on my face...which is very welcome right now!

Here's one of my house wrens. Don't ask me what is happening with the nest box. I have no idea. Seems like he found a girl and now looks like she's gone. The box is filled so full I"m afraid to have a look inside. When I go close to the box, none bother me, but I see maybe 3 or 4 in the general vicinity. Seems they like to hang in the trumpet vine.

I out out a third suet feeder and the Downy Woodpeckers are much happier and there is a lot less bickering now!

Thumbnail by nanny_56

We are getting back to normal feeder activity here. The Grackles & Starlings are almost all gone...thank goodness. Have had some gold finch and even a few Chickadees at the feeders lately.

But here is a White-breasted Nuthatch on the suet....
