Do not know what this is but it has numerous small orange flowers on a stem and thin straight leaves. It is a spreader!

Can't remember what this is. Sorry the flower wasn't fully open this time of day but it is a dark purple with yellow center. It didn't do much last year but has gone gang busters this summer. I can't find any seeds on it anywhere after the flowers have fallen off. Must be "sterile"!

Very neat collection of plants Bobyrd.

Great shots Bob...funny as I thought the same thing about the last day of July. So here goes my list.
Btw, the pic you said was a vitex is actually a butterfly bush. This one is my 'black knight' it is a magnet for the tiger swallowtails. This is the dark form female.

Coreopsis....I don't have many this year....too much mulch I think, keeps them from reseeding.

Some hate it but I love it, and so do the hummers. The black and blue salvia.

Another favorite of the hummers is the native flame acanthus. Looks like this one is already getting seeds.

The Texas Betony still blooming but droops to where it doesn't get noticed. I may try moving it next year to the front of the bed.

Last but not least. The west Tx Mistflower a favorite of the Monarchs and Queens in the fall. Just beginning to bloom. This is a Queen that mimics a Monarch for protection.

Pretty flowers Sheila_FW

I had some Mexican Milkweed last year but they became infested with aphids and I couldn't keep them off.
I have aphids on one of my hibiscus too and have been spraying them with soap and water. And, the ants are trying to help me get rid of them too.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes that unfortunately is one of the active pests on MW. I had them early in the spring but they seemed to have been eaten by something else. I don't use a pesticide on my beds because of the butterflies. I choose my battle with ants, flies and wasps though.

Colleyville, TX(Zone 8a)

The last two years my MW also had tons of aphids. Unfortunately, the MW did not reseed this year. Sheila and bobyrd, lovely blooms! Maybe I will go out and see what I can call July blooms!

batface cuphea, I tried to save mine over the winter, but it turned out I ended up saving a salvia. I love it so much, I had to buy another one.

The flower looks something like that but the leaves seem to come up individually from the ground, are skinny, and don't branch. At first I thought the leaves were some kind of weed. I will try to take a better picture of the leaves and the flowers tomorrow.
