July Blooms

Arlington, TX

It's mid July and I actually have a few things blooming. Been a tough year in my yard so I thought I would take some pics of what looks good.
Hibiscus from the Arlington native plants sale, a nice white.

Put in these zinnia to replace a white gaura which bloomed great in the spring and them failed due to what looked like a fungus (rust)

Is it moss verbena? Given to me at the RU but I am not sure exactly what it is.

Black and blue salvia is beginning to bloom.
Some CP's that I need to make a bog planter for (if I finish the pond area).

Those are all beautiful Cheryl, especially the hibiscus, coneflowers and zexmenia, all very healthy and lovely.

Well I have you to thank for the hibiscus, you talked me into it at the sale.

Love the hibiscus, that first pic is like two eyes!
The rain really helped alot of the thirsty plants
This is elephant ears that returned. I did cover them, but they also returned in other places unprotected.

Wow, okay, I have a question. I have a bright--I mean electric--blue salvia guaranitica that I thought was Argentine Skies. And, I have another noid salvia guaranitica that is light blue, like the one in your photo. Does Argentine Skies vary that much in flower color?

my entire flower bed is overgrown with grass that has grown a foot high! I am going to get a truckload of pea gravel and spread all over my side of the place, its totally unmanageable! I guess I wont see any Zinnias this year. Somebody gave me some kind of vine with little heart leaves ... Lord have mercy what is that? Thank God its on Mattie's side!LOL its all over everything! LOL I made myself a special garden in front of my porch for all my special plants because I thought those Elephant Ears were gone ... Lord they came back with a vengeance! none of my bulbs can bloom! I got to cut them down. I sound like a blithering maniac ...Yall probably think I am going crazy ... its four oclock in the morning ... I am going to bed. LOL
I am reading this and I am laffing so hard... its just too funny to erase.

Colleyville, TX(Zone 8a)

Interesting about the Argentine Skies. The only advice I have about blackfoot daisy is not to mulch it over the winter with wood /leaves. I save my pecan mulch for it. I have mine growing in a xeriscape and it survives mainly on rainwater all year.

Sylvia...you are funny. Did you dream of vines and weeds all night?

evening primrose, about 2.5 ft in height, sometimes has some red in it's stems. Wild and prolific on my place this time of year

Anna did you get a email from me about the American Hosta Society? Are you on my Yahoo list?
Anna I have already had my nightmares. The ENT doctor I went to for this Vertigo told me I need to drink 12 16oz bottles of water a day. So I bought myself 3gallons of that Arizona ice tea which I had been drinking all day. I forget that tea has more caffeine than coffee. I went to bed about 6:30 this morning. ... thus ... the reason for all the ranting and raving. It is overgrown out there. My day lillies which usually put on a show need to be dug up and divided ... I really dont know where to start, but it will have to wait until fall.

Colleyville, TX(Zone 8a)

I guess you will switch to water! Maybe just squeeze some lemon in for alittle taste.
I am not a big hosta fan although I have one from a RU trade.I guess I am too stingy with my water and hate slugs. I did get your email. Sorry, it sounds like you are getting pressured by the big guys. Hopefully there are some with passion for hosta out there to help you.

Dallas, TX

You dont need to be a Hosta grower, its all about gardening ... any Hort-head is welcome.
I want to do a luncheon or something in about 4-6 weeks.
I got to get ready for September Fund raising.

Sylvia...I warned you about those EEs being so close to your gate and having access to the water! LOL! Get your guy to did and pot them to trade in October. Doesn't the flower bulbs you planted bloom in the spring? The EEs won't come up until after they are through I bet.

Dallas, TX

Sheila these are the ones I moved from the back because they were multiplying too fast. I planted these in the front as you come up the steps. I thought they were gone after that freeze so I planted all my expensive bulbs and plant there so i could watch them mature. and now this! I am going to take a picture in the morning so I show you guys why I have no blooms.

I transplanted this little rudbeckia hirta from my bigger flower bed this spring. I'm so excited it bloomed this summer!
