Kalih Marie is stunning!! I love the Orchids too.I have only tried a Phal. once and it's just about dead.....so I guess they aren't easy for me LOL.

Kalih Marie is really great. I am such a sucker for variegation -- here it's just a beautiful contrast with the pinks. Do you do anything special with youir Jewel Orchid? I have a young one that's doing fine -- but would love to have it grow up to look like yours. Your bunny looks like a real character. No rabbits here, but my cats and dog often oblige by sulking for the camera -- it's a lot of fun making up the subtitles, and EXCELLENT revenge when I catch them doing something really miserable.

Hi Jan--Thanks for your interest! Kalih Marie is so pretty, even when not in bloom. I first saw her when I went on a day trip to Lyndon Lyon 1 1/2 years ago, and immediately fell in love w/her, even though I collect mostly mini's. I did not buy it that day as my funds were limited and I was trying to stick small plants, but the collector that I went there with (she's been going there for years and had invited me to go along that day) already owned it and later sent me a baby Kalih. Took me awhile to find a spot it liked, finally figured out it does not like a lot of light--it is in a far NW window--no lights. I've had the jewel for several years--it also likes mostly bright daylight. I water only when dry--about once a week. Dunno if it is correct, but I've always potted in a 50-50 mix of AV mix/orchid bark mix. I feed it with the violets and it blooms for me every winter. It has a long bloom period, and in the spring, when I cut off the spent bloom stalks, I also cutback the stems that bloomed. I actually saw these for sale in the grocery store last year! I was shocked-LOL! Logee's Greenhouse has a couple of other jewels for sale - They are also beautiful. I bought one last time I was there, but it promptly died--dunno why.
Columbus definitely has bunny-tude...not shy about expressing his opinion at all! House rabbits have great personalities and make great pets.I'd love to see pics of your cats and dog--with subtitles please! An AV pet thread would be nice--I know other members have great pets as well.

Having connection problems--so will try this again...This is a pic of the jewel that didn't make it. You can't see it too well, but it actually has threads of gold in the leaf pattern. Would like to try it again, but it is very expensive-not in the current budget.

Another one
http://www.logees.com/prodinfo.asp?number=A2563-3

It came planted in moss, and I did not think to check the root development at the time--there were only 3 in the store when I bought it. So I do not really know if the problem was the moss, a weak plant, or something I did or didn't do. I had planned to repot it it once it acclimated, but it never acclimated.

Zozzi--I love the swirly blooms on your Rob's Toorooka, but I believe it is mislabeled. I think what you have there is Boolaroo. Both blooms are in this photo from Rob's website http://www.robsviolet.com/trailing_violets.htm
Well, it's mislabeled in the photo on the website as well! I thought Boolaroo had fantasy!
I read it wrong--it says Rob's Humpty doo--if you click on the bloom, it will show you the grown plant--what do you think?

That jewel orchid is gorgeous -- thanks for the pic. ReallIy frustrating that it died -- the treasures like that alway hard to lose. I'd also like to get another one sometime, but they are not easy to find, and as you point out, not often cheap. Do you belong to AOS? If you get the magazine, there was one issue a while back with a full feature on jewel orchids. Thats what got me motivated enough to find the one I have. It's a really interesting article -- not a ton on culture, but some really spectacular pictures. If you don't have that issue, I'd be happy to scan it and send you a copy. Just LMK.

I am so jealous -- would love to be close enough to visit Lydon Lyon. As you probably know they only make their orchids available at the greenhouse, and since I also have a small orchid collection, and I'd really enjoy that as well as the violet/gessies there. Maybe one of these days -- for now perhaps it's just as well. I suspect self-control would be a bit difficult with three of my "plant enthusiasms" covered in one stop.

About the dog/cat pictures -- you know how they say "be careful of what you ask for?" If my family/friends were here (so to speak), they'd be in the background waving their arms and mouthing "no ... no .. don't ... arghhhhh". But I will post some anyhow! :)

HI All,
Yup is me. As always is crazy here. Never enough time in a day. I came because an old friend passed and waned to know if it was posted here and it was.
Oh let's not talk about killing plants ok? LOL I killed so many last winter I almost had to start over. Son was getting married and it was stress stress for me. LOL Another son getting married this Jan. Hope to be nice to my plants this time. LOL
I miss you all . Connie did you get ride of the bugs I sent? You have no idea how much that hurt me that I sent people bugs. I still think about it. I now keep a much better look at my plants and do keep new ones apart from others and put bug stuff in them all the time.
Hugs,
susan

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Jan--Post away! Your family doesn't know that I could talk about pets all day! They will just be shaking their heads at both of us! LOL! I dabble in orchids as well--and would belong to the AOS if the budget was nit so tight the past couple of years. I would love to see that article.

Northeast, MO(Zone 5b)

Wow, another wedding :) After this one they will all be married won't they? It is stressful!

I didn't get any streps from you, Sis. I think that might have been Anna. I did get mites from an A.V. vendor. That was tear jerking!!

Connie

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Sista,
I always get you and Anna mixed up. Sorry. I sent Anna streps as a nice jester and wound up sending her mealy bugs. The thing is I also sent 4 other people bugs. I cried over that one. I was afraid no one would ever want plants from me again. Not true I have found out. LOL
Yes this is the last son to get married and so far this wedding will be better on my nerves. LOL
I to can talk pets all day. I have 5 chihuahua's two cats and one bird and I work for a Vet. LOL gotta love our 4 legged babies.
Hugs,
Susan
