I got a brief email frm Rachel yesterday. She's due any day and I imagine is just taking it easy, resting her back, and going to the bathroom every two seconds! Hopefully she'll pop in and post the news and a photo when the big day happens.
Apropos of Nothing v.16
I think it's a good thing there are no proper HaHas on our property. As much of a klutz as I am, I'm sure I'd fall in and break bones.
My project is stalled. Ran out of money- can't buy soil. Tracy will be transferring some for me soon, but who knows when. He has to go way up to the top of the ridge to get a signal on his phone, and doesn't have time to do that during the week, usually. Dangit.
I guess I can figure out where to build the small bed with the leftover concrete and get it done in the meantime...
Bless that man of mine, the money is in my account now. No idea how he managed that in the middle of a camp day! Don't want to go to the port this late in the day, I hate dealing with late afternoon traffic on I-5. I'll get up early-ish tomorrow and head down there.
Haven't done anything with the remaining concrete yet. I'm waiting til this evening when there's a some shade in the yard. My back is still sunburned from working out there the other day.
The fighter jets are all zooming around doing tricks over our house- must be getting close to the air show. I love watching them, but boy are they loud!
Pony, love the new bed! You do good work.
Thanks, Ladybuggfan! :)
Ate three sungold cherry tomatoes off the vine this evening while watering. I was so excited to find something other than green. They were tiny but yummy. Maybe August for some more. My beets are getting bigger too. Can't wait to try those too! Guess I will keep going to the farmers market for a while.
The dogs were bored while I was working on my crafts today!
Awww... such cute bored babies. :)
My dog gets bored when we spend too much time in the house, if it's raining or cold or too hot. Her idea of fun is to chase her Chuckit ball, and she is good at reminding me about that!
We are eating our currant-type Petit Moineau tomatoes, but nothing larger is ripening yet. The Jaune Flammé are looking a bit yellow, though.
oooo, Pony, mark that photo for the annual competition. I give it 5 stars. About time we had a first prize on DG.
Thanks, Laurie. :)
Absolutely agree with Laurie re the photo, Pony.
Pony, Awesome job with the garden! Definitely worth a bit of aches and pains. Your spider photo is too cool! Since I have been too busy to d-mail, just to let you know I have bunches of moneywort for you whenever you want to hook up.
Bea, Tomatoes? Totally totally totally jealous! (You too Greenhouse Gal, but since you are in a warmer part of the world, it doesn't surprise me as much!)
Had the day off yesterday and spent several hours repairing/revamping my watering system. Was a good day to play in the water, but that is such a frustrating chore. If anyone is planning on putting in a watering system, I highly recommend asking for input first... so many things I would have done differently if I had only known better.....
I have those spiders all over my Poppies and each one is a different color. Way cool to have a name on them.
Steve, they are very interesting spiders- I found out what they are here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Misumena_vatia
Julie, not sure when I will be able to come up to FW. I'll try to figure it out and get back to you soon.
Julie..I don't think 3 marble size cherry tomatoes count. They were tasty but hardly satisfied the belly. Good thing I do not have to live off the land. I would be a skeleton by now. I still do need to loose a few pounds..perhaps I may get my wish if I rely on my veggie garden for nutrition. Do miss California only for the summer growing season and less black spot on roses.
Pony, almost any time is cool with me. I know where I will dig the stuff from, but am not going to until we set a date so that it has the best chance of me not forgetting to water it........
Bea, Marble size cherry tomatoes are still cherry tomatoes! I have a huge problem with the first of the year tomatoes... they never get ripe because I have no patience. They are still good almost ripe, but it takes getting into full fruit season for me to actually get to eat a ripe one rather than almost ripe ones :)
Ow. I just had to choose gardening as a hobby. I couldn't have chosen something non-backbreaking, like knitting, or jigsaw puzzles? LOL ;)
I shoveled a cubic yard of soil into the new beds. It wasn't enough. Phooey. Tagro is only open til noon tomorrow, so I don't know if I'll make it back down there before Monday. I had a feeling I'd need more than one yard, but that's all my little truck will hold. I love my truck, but sometimes I do wish I'd gotten a bigger one that would haul more. Oh well. She does a good job for such a little gal. :)
Isn't it amazing how it looks like so much in the truck but then in the garden it really doesn't go very far! I bet you are so excited to start putting plants in there!
I know- amazing how much soil a flowerbed holds!
I am -very- excited to start planting. I have a bunch of stuff I grew from seeds (coleus, tithonia, 2 kinds of dahlias, hibiscus) that've been waiting patiently in pots for me to make a place for them. And on Wednesday I'm driving down to Kalama to meet another DGer (Joy) and take her a load of the Tagro compost in exchange for some plants. I'm looking forward to meeting her, we've chatted quite a bit and done some trading via mail- it'll be fun to meet her and see her flowers in person. She always takes such lovely photos. :)
This will be the first time in years that I've driven any farther than Seattle by myself- I hope my freeway anxiety doesn't kick up too bad. I think it will be okay, though. I'll just keep reminding myself I'm getting flowers out of it... *grin* ;)
Sounds like fun! Does Joy have a different DG name here? I'm blanking on who she is...
Her DG name is Joy, too. She doesn't hang out here in the PNW forum, (I wonder why- I should bug her to come on over) she's in the Daylily forum a lot, and I've seen her photos show up as bloom of the day several times. Very sweet lady.
I was invited to go to the lavender festival in Sequim today, but I slept so poorly and my back hurts so much I don't think I'd be too happy walking around all day. I should go pick up the rest of my soil. Not that I feel like doing that, but they're not open tomorrow. Hard to decide what to do...
Oooh. Nice maters. :)
Yup you got us Steve!! I have about another month before I will see red!! Humph!
I won't have any at all this year. My plants got blight, and I didn't feel like trying toi start over. :-/
I picked up another load of soil this morning, and got back in plenty of time to go to the lavender festival with the fambly, but I think I'm going to stay home after all. I'm so tired and sore, I don't think I'd have fun.
Pony, I think we need a new thread!!
Poor thing; you're really working yourself to death! It's a shame to have to miss the lavender festival.
I usually do the new threads at 300 posts...
I'm still dithering over whether to go or not... LOL I'm so borked, but it's been forever since I went to a festival or street fair. They'll be calling me in a few minutes, I'd better make up my mind quick.
You should definitely go to the Lavender Festival! I love it.
Steve, tell me again why you can't grow corn there. It would seem if you can grow 'maters, you could grow corn!
Well, I told them I'd go. I hope I can have fun when I'm this tired and hurting so much. Yikes.
Nice crop of tomato Sofer - quite envious.
Yes corn grows but the only great corn is down in Paradise a town in the Bananna belt. It is grown by a geneticist who keeps his crops private.
So why doesn't it grow good then? What is your area lacking?
We need 80 days of warm. We don't get that here. Paradise is a unique area of Montana that does.
Steve, I have 'mater envy and am drooling Maybe when I get over to the house in EWA on Monday, I will have my first ones there. (Hoping) :)
I was going to say that I grew great corn when I lived in Montana, but then I lived in Plains, only 6 miles up the highway from Paradise. Nice to know that Paradise is know for something other than the Paradise Bar! LOL
I'm so tired. OMG.
The lavender festival was lame. We never did find out what the moose was dreaming about, and I woke up in Port Orchard- but somebody bought me earrings, so it was okay.
(Outings with my family tend to be somewhat surreal...)
Pony, I'm glad you went, anyway. I hope you're going to take it very very easy today!
Cute little frog, Bea!
