How to tag pages?

Christiana, TN(Zone 6b)

I've looked here and there and everywhere trying to find out how. It's probably staring me in the face. But so far I can't figure it out. Help? Thanks. Kyle

Up in the corner of every page (right corner just underneath the header) is a little yellow folder icon--click that to tag that page.

AHA! Cool. Thanks. I don't think I would ever have figured that out on my own. :-p

Just FYI, in addition to tagging the entire page or thread, you can also tag individual posts (within a thread) the same way. Just click on the post number for the thread. It's shown under the username, location, date, time info on the far left of the screen and looks like: Post #1234567 (the numbers will be different, of course).
This will bring the individual post up on screen with one of those tiny folder icons in the upper right hand corner. Click on the folder to tag the post.

I mention this because I find that often even those who know how to tag threads are unaware that individual posts can be tagged this way.

Thanks, DoS. Very good to know. Any and all tips and tricks appreciated. Got anymore?

Glad the info was helpful. Often I find it beneficial to tag the individual post that contains the information I need rather than tag the thread and have to read through everything in search of the information later. Glad you appreciated it. It's always risky to jump in with unrequested info. I don't have anything else at present, except that you can also tag photos the same way. Bascially, you can tag anything that has a folder icon.

Cool. Thanks.

DoS - Thanks for the info on tagging pages. How on earth did you find the information for yourself? It does not seem to be in any of the site-use instructions.

It's in the FAQ under the home page, since tagging isn't restricted only to forums: http://davesgarden.com/faq/home/#144

greenthumb99,

Sorry I forgot to answer this sooner. I really didn't know where to find the instructions anyhow, so it's good that Terry came by to provide them.

I didn't answer this sooner because, well, I basically figured it out by 'playing' with it, trial-and-error method. I'm a software engineer. I write software for a living and spend the better part of my life on the computer. As a result, I'm probably more comfortable with computers than most people are. Working with computers is almost more natural to me than interacting with humans. I can usually figure most things out for myself on the computer via a combination of educated guesses, trial and error, and just trying things to see what happens. (Please understand this is not to say that I think I'm so smart - and that's why I didn't answer sooner as I didn't know how to say this w/o sounding that way - just that I'm comfortable with computers because they are my career.)

Again, glad that Terry supplied the 'real' answer.

I was just about to tag a current article when I noticed that the little yellow icon no longer appears--can we not tag items anymore?l

Essentially, we lost that feature a while back when some upgrades were made to the site. We're told that something similar will be added soon, except that they will be calling it bookmarks rather than tags. For now, at least, you can still access tags (your own and those of others) created prior to the upgrade which removed that feature; but you cannot make new ones. Not sure what will come of the existing tags once the new bookmark feature is rolled out.

Here is another link where we have been discussing this (w/admin): http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1327281/

Thanks for the update!

Just as soon as we have an ETA, we will pass it along :-)

Just checking in again to see how far up on the list "Tags" has moved?

Tags? on the list? Where on the list?

Northwest, MO(Zone 5a)

I am so anxious for this to happen. I used tags a lot when it was available.

Albuquerque, NM(Zone 7a)

I also tagged numerous items and miss that feature. I did save my "old" page
of tags but cannot add anything to it.

They are on the next release, but as of right now, I do not yet have a date for when that will be. Sorry, guys!
