I had to share this.

This plant was hit by the cold, I lost alot of plants last winter. I tried everything and this gardenia wasn't coming back and when I went to repot it the trunk just slid off, that was it, time to realize it's a gonner. I stuck it on a pile of trimmings for the burn pile, it must be 3 or 4 weeks when I went to take up the pile and this is what I find. Talk about resilience!

I'm not too sure what to do. Should I trim the roots and trunk off? I have to do some research 'cause my green thumb has left the building.

There may be an underlying problem. I should dunk the roots in Organicide or spray with Pyrethrin. Anyone with some knowledge should pipe right in and tell me. And when a root is cut, what to do to keep it from rotting in wet soil. Vasoline? Where did I hear that?

What did you decide to do?

Plants will usually come back from the roots..you should have just pruned off the top and waited..get that baby planted..Jeanne

Oh ya, I sprayed the roots first with the garden hose, then with a bug spray, then planted her in a finely chipped pine that drains thoroughly. Gave her a dose of Quick Start and set her in a morning sun, mostly shade position.
I was afraid to trim the roots so planted it as is.
I'm thinking the dirt was too wet too long.

How is it looking now :) I have some gardenia frostproof if you want some cuttings for trade or postage :) I'd hate for you to go without one :(

Thank you Josh, I can't keep up with what I have.

She was getting pounded by rains from the Texas hurricane but the pine chips seem to agree with her. Sprouting from the roots.

end of July. I'm waiting for them to grow a little larger then when I trim it I can poke the pieces into their own pots. Wow, I thought this was a gonner.

Another story of survival.
Thought I lost this wild pineapple to the cold but it had one green leaf left so I threw it to the side. While weeding out back this pot was totally covered by weeds. I'm going to protect it this winter.
