.02 cents worth

Did you ever notice when Burger King advertises specials on their marquee .. often it's '.99 cents'? [People posting '.02 cents' here reminded me of that.] It's my daughter's favorite pet peeve, because what it really means is less than 1 cent. She says she would like to go to BK sometime and order 5 bacon-egg-cheese-biscuits and give them a nickel, because that's exactly what that says. Just a little math lesson from Granny Lois on this beautiful day. :-)
P.S. Isn't it great that her favorite pet peeve is such a little thing? Oh, if only life were that smooth ...

Wouldn't that be grand!

Hah!! So cool of you to point that out! I seldom visit McD's ...and maybe that's why I'm gonna go there during their next "special"...(with my duct tape shoes on.)

The marquee we saw Monday at a Burger King in Columbus said "Eight fries for a dollar". That's either a really GOOD deal, or a really BAD deal. Can't figure out which just yet...

Sounds like they're playing with your mind .... not to mention your cholesterol !!!

Well my .02 cents worth is definately worth less than 1 cent! LOL

So I guess what you're saying is that it should just be displayed as 99 if (without the decimal) if they are going to put the word "cents" after it? (like 99 cents)...otherwise the correct display would could read $.99 and be correct? I guess it should say $.99 Otherwise, .99 cents would be almost one penny.
The thing that aggrevates me is how gas stations list all their prices at 1/100 of a cent less than the next highest cent, so they can squeeze every last drop of change out of you and everyone else. For example, when you look at a price for one gallon of gas, it may read $1.47.99. The 99 would be displayed smaller and right after the 47, so basically you're paying (for all practical purposes) $1.48.
Same thing goes with the goofy labels in retail stores...why not just SAY it's $5 instead of trying to convince me that it's not, with a $4.99 price. I think we're all a little bit smarter than that.
And that would be my pet peeve... :) (maybe we're over-analysing this?...lol)

Interesting thread. I lived in Nurnberg, Germany for a while in 1995, and I loved how the stores there handle their pricing.

They always include the tax in the shelf price, so what you see is what you are going to pay. Additionally, they don't do that "$4.99" nonsense. They price to the unit or half unit. So, a candy bar is .50 Deutsch marks, and a bottle of wine is 5 marks. I really liked this a lot. This "Buy now for only $19.99" is ridiculous. I feel like they are trying to snow me when they use this kind of pricing.

I managed an A&P food store for 12 years. Back when Lesuer peas were 29 cents we would sell a couple of cases a week. I ran a special at 3/$1 and would sell 20 cases a week. Couldn't keep the shelves stocked. LOL
Dave in your post you said you really liked this a lot. Were you referring to the wine or the system. Or both. Jim

Jim, both actually. :-) The Germans in Nurnberg have a thing called "Gluehwein", which is a wine you serve around Christmas time (it's their answer to EggNog I suppose). Anyway, you heat this stuff up in a crockpot and drink it out of a coffee mug. It's so warm and tasty, I once drank an entire bottle without knowing it. :)

And, I paid exactly 2 marks for the bottle. heheheh

Funny thing though...I spent one Christmas with another German friend and his wife...guess what we had for our Christmas lunch?...Pizza with pineapples on it! LOL What ever happened to the ham or maybe a little wienershcnitzel?

and the red cabbage and the spatzle..and the spaetze...
wonderful 3 years!!

(How did this turn into a Germany thread?) :)

Did anyone eat the Turkish food in Germany? In Nurnberg, the Turks are like the Mexicans in Texas. They have a food stand on every corner, and their food is absolutely outstanding.

My favorite food in the world: Doner Kebab, served hot and juicy, right under the towers of the Lorenzkirche. :)
