See my previous post on July 22, 2010 for Fly on Tomato. I'm told this is not a true fly but a bug. This bug is about ⅛ inch or slightly larger in size and when I shake the tomato plant it will fly off and immediately back on. I only see about half a dozen of these bugs at a time. They are hard to spot without a trained eye. Here's another photo that I hope will help ID this bug.
The picture at the URL you sent definitely looks close enough to the one in my picture.. Thank you for the ID. At least it gives me something to work with to find out if this bug might be a problem on my plants. It is difficult enough to take a picture of a bug this small on a leaf that is blowing in the wind, but I can imagine that the job of cataloging all of the bugs and their traits must be an almost insurmountable task. Do you think the Cooperative Extension is going to be able to tell me anything from this picture of mine?

CLOSED: Bug on Tomato
About all I can tell you is that this appears to be one of the plant bugs in the family Miridae - see http://tinyurl.com/24zc4hr for an example. This is a very large family with many species that superficially resemble one another.
