FOTV, if I remember it right. You've some spectacular cannas from previous years. I'm glad to see you joining us hummers enthusiasts. Those pics. of yours prompts me to re-assess my cannas. :-) I love them.
2010 Ruby-throated Hummingbirds Vol. 5
I won't laugh as I have NONE.
That's so pretty, Lily-Love, and reminds me of the days of black and white silhouettes.
I agree nice silhouette,I too love Blk and white photos.Mrs_Ed come on over and sit with me to watch the hummers ,besides I need some bird watching sitting time..Iam always on the move something always needs to be done somewhere, might be the reason Ive lost 15 lbs this summer...Hey would that qualify in clean and clutter free, daily chuckle,I do feel much better..
Not a juvie...I think is due to the angle of the shot! lol
Those are neat shots, nanny. He looks content taking a long drink and doesn't seem the least bit concerned about having his hiney in the air! How many of us besides me are guilty of resembling that remark and look forward to a cool drink? LOL
Nanny, there is no "bad" shot of a hummer. What matters is that you're enjoying them.
Rose, love your hummer photos. That higher ISO really does well.
Hugger, that flower with the hummer is so pretty. Can you tell me what it is please?
Duc,its larkspur,1 of my favs and the hummers love it..
Rose...fabulous!!
I love larkspur too!! yours is so pretty with your hummer!
Absolutely gorgeous Larkspurs, Tamara -- those do well up your zones, I planted them here in my garden they often struggle, I'm not sure it's due to heat or the moisture problem?. I'm glad you all like my garden. I'm so happy my hummingbirds hang around to enjoy my garden as well. I changed the feeder out yesterday evening. The little jewels seem to get used to me and hung around while I took the other feeder down and put a new one up.
Staking out his/her territory; I just saw a female came to drink her nectar. A male arrived, she didn't seem to care. But out of nowhere another male dive-bomb the other male. What I sight to watch. Of course, I missed all the actions shots as described above. Few mins. past this one came back near to the feeder and stands guard.
Think the females are nesting here now. Not seeing them much right now. Come in for a quick drink and gone again!
Nice Lily!
Still seeing my little friends around, the females were scarce for a while, but I'm seeing them a little more lately. I caught this little lady Wed. night, but just now got it off the camera. I had to find a different spot to stand to trick them. I've got the tri-pod and red shirts as huggergirl suggested. I even have a red hat!
Iam glad you said that nanny, females nesting I hadnt seen much of them,it makes sense now.see what you all teach me ... Or make me think...LOL..lily larspur does very well around here,I love it ,I sowed a bunch of the seed and not a lot came up,but we had all that rain and cold spring.I love it when I get buzzed by the hummers, they are real used to us puttering around outside,I like it when you are filling the feeder and they buzz by go up and sit on a branch and wait for you to finish...
I copied this post (7/3/10) from a local birding website (MDOSPREY). I find it interesting in that it provides further proof that some of the Ruby-throated Hummingbirds return to the same place each summer.
"Today was the first hummingbird banding day of the season at my house. Bruce Peterjohn did the banding while I operated the trap and collected data. We banded from about 07:45 until noon. We had great day with the following results:
We banded 28 new Ruby-throated Hummingbirds -
12 Adult Females
15 Adult Males
1 Male that just hatched this year
In addition, we recaptured 6 birds that we banded last year -
2 Females that were hatched last year
2 Adult Females that were banded as adults
1 Male that hatched last year
1 Adult Male that was banded as an adult

Linth, I did the trapping last year for our local banders and had a great time too. Glad you had so many recaptures. Nice to know you had so many new bands too.
Burd, great job with your hummers.
Burd, beautiful shots of that beautiful boy! Linth, thanks for sharing that info. with others/me. Banding of these birds to study on them is a wonderful thing.
Next year I'll have to grow Larkspurs, hummer. Unless I'm too late to start them this year? Those are beautiful pics, just loved your sequence.
OMG, Burd, you photos as always are awesome!
That makes me want to watch my Tiger Lilies too. Cool shot, nanny!
Nanny, pretty blooms with your little guy. Great job.
