Membership renewals...

DG no longer will accept personal checks?

I'm afraid not - there were only a few who sent in checks, and there's a lot of work (and potential for error) that goes into processing them.

We offer two secure payment options - PayPal and your choice of credit cards.

PayPal gives you the choice of funding your payments by check (they draft from your bank account like if you pay bills online) or with a credit card number you place on file with them and they bill to cover any payments they make at your request.

PayPal's E-check option is the most like paying for things with a check you write, and it lets us update your profile with your renewal as soon as PayPal receives it (so it's also faster than sending in a check.)

I've used PayPal for my DG membership renewals for years
and it works perfectly. I don't think you even have to join
PayPal to use it for this purpose.

I always paid with a personal check in the past. It did not seem to be a burden to DG then. To complicated for the new guys? :-(

We ran into problems with checks in the past - delays in processing, accounts not properly credited, etc. In the interest of customer service, it seemed better to focus on processes that are faster and secure.

Does this mean that if we use a credit card it has to be done through PayPal, i.e., we would have to have a PayPal account no matter what?

Seems less personal to not accept M.O. (I'm assuming DG doesn't want those either) or checks. I guess that just the way the world turns. Thanks for your response Terry. Is there a phone number to call to renew my membership via CC in person?

Thank you.

You can make a one-time credit card payment through PayPal without creating an account. If you think you're going to use it regularly you may want to set one up, but if you're just going to use it for once in a while stuff like this then you don't have to.

There are people that prefer not to put their credit card number online, but it is much safer (it's encrypted ~ look for https instead of just http) than calling on the phone, having someone write down your number and then throwing that piece of paper in the garbage.

I'm not saying that's what DG would do, just a general FYI.

Thanks ecrane3 (Liz, right?)

I have a PayPal account that I sometimes use. Thanks for the information. I suppose lots of things are different now with new ownership. I enjoy being a part of DG and will continue on. ...surprised so many views on this thread. I'll pay up soon.

Thanks again. Have a great evening.

I don't recall doing it through PayPal before. Is this a change from the past procedure?

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

Yes, I'm Liz.

I think Paypal has always been an option (well maybe not always, but at least since I've been a subscriber). It looks like there's an option to pay directly on this site with your credit card too if you don't want to go through Paypal. But if you want to pay out of your checking account then you'd have to go with Paypal.

Thanks Liz.

PayPal (using a credit card or E-check) and paying directly with a major credit card (it is encrypted and secured as Liz mentioned) have always been among the payment options ;o)

Why are we not given the option to accept or decline gift subscriptions, or the ability to delete a subscription w/o Admin intervention? I've always wondered this.

Basically it's because the subscription system is completely automated (which protects and secures your private information.) Your own subscription or renewal does not require our approval, and the gift subscription process doesn't route through us or the recipient either.
