Nice shots Missy and Burn!

PERTH, Australia

Beautiful start to the thread, Burn. The Waxwings are exquisite.

Wonderful birds, Rian. I love the Barbet. That's a sturdy looking beak it has there. I hope you post more just now.

From the nest this afternoon. No ospreys, but loads of Cormorants and Silver Gulls (distant shot)

That Kookaburra is so darned neat!

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Burn...how jealous I am of your Waxwing and Dee, I haven't seen either forever!

Margaret...gorgeous shot of the Kookaburra, wish it had sound to go with it!

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Burn, that waxwing is just gorgeous. I love their fine textured feathers. Cute little chickadee too.

Missy, how exciting to see the vireo. Good for you!

Margaret, the cormorants and gulls must be quite noisy-how wonderful just to sit and listen to them. I love that Kookaburra too! Such an adorable bird. When you come to visit all of us, please pack a couple of them in your suitcase.lol

My DH and I went to our local park and found this Pied-billed Grebe in an inlet off the lake.

She was building her nest in the same place as last year. It's interesting that the Grebes find a matting of floating greens right on the water and that's where the nest is placed.

A little further down the inlet, we found this juvenile Green Heron. I loved the fuzzy head and this little critter just sat and watched us as I clicked away on the camera.

Nice shots GG!

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

GG, great job with your pictures. Is your fountain solar? I liked the way the water shoots out-much better than mine that go up higher.

Mount Pleasant Mills, PA(Zone 5a)

Thanks Duc. Yes, it is solar. Wish I had one for the other birds--darned Grackles have completely claimed this one as their own private pool! LOL

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Duc...love your water birds and that Little Green Heron is adorable. I would love to live close to the water like you do...it looks beautiful there.

GG...I really enjoyed seeing all those shots on that link and I like that fountain too!

This is a long range shot and not very good but the Dickcissels are hanging out in the back of the house now. I am hoping to get some better shots if it every cools down.

Port Elizabeth, South Africa(Zone 10a)

They must be strong to lift that body out..Sorry so far of the topic, but it was great...hahahaha!

Wonderful pictures of birds and the description of the Whale is wonderful, Little_things. Summer heat is on in our region, thus not many pix to share. I was glad to see this resilent bird, defending its nest all through the spring against Crows and tree-rats (meaning squirrels around here). Now if they can tolerate mother's nature wrath (the heat), then all are as well. Here is Lord Byron AKA Redheaded Woodpecker. ^_^

a little whale watching nice..wish i were there ...

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Rose, that photo of your Dickcissel is just perfect to me. The bird has such pretty markings and colors.

Nanny, another cute picture of your Purple Martin.

Little things, your birds sure are pretty. I love the long bill on the Hadeda. Love the white ring around the eye on birds. That Hoopoe is just beautiful! What a shock to see that whale-I know I'd have thrown my cup for sure.

Lily, Lord Byron looks proud.

My Crow was acting silly again.

We're seeing more and more juvenile Orioles. This one couldn't figure out how to balance on the perch and drink at the same time.

Good thing the feeder hole is large, the bird is drinking with a tonail in there too.

Duc, love to see the Oriole juvies at the feeder, so so cute.

What a drama queen she, or drama king it's. lol, lol. That one is begging for a caption.

Mount Pleasant Mills, PA(Zone 5a)

Wow! Wonderful shots everyone. Little Things, how cool is that, a Whale seen from your porch!!

From my front porch, I can see an Amish horse and buggy or a farm tractor, sometimes a deer; LOL cannot imagine how wonderful it would be living where I could see a whale from my house!

Love the bird photos you posted.

Mount Pleasant Mills, PA(Zone 5a)

Yes that photo does beg for a caption--such as "Help, I've fallen and I cannot get up"!

Port Elizabeth, South Africa(Zone 10a)

I am still getting used to it myself, coming from the dry central region...but we chose well...sorry, I had to tell somebody...LOL! By the way....

GO USA! you are through to the last 16 in the World Cup! I am happy for you!
